  1. Very well done. Love the look of this.
  2. I found a local group on Facebook and am now running an expo in a few weeks time.
  3. I like to lock myself away and do it in silence. I also swear a lot more while building then I normally do.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I have a very limited supply of parts so I used what I had. I might look at ordering some parts to make it look and work better.
  5. Last week I finally purchased LEGO Technic Excavator set 8043. This set has been around for a couple of years and I had seen it around locally and thought it looked quite cool but other sets and life always seemed to get in the way. With the news that this set has been made end of life and with me having some time off work I grabbed it. The building process was quite enjoyable and took me about 5 hours with a couple of breaks during this time, the steps were all well explained however as it is quite a complex set (it has over 70 gears) it is important to make sure you get these aligned well and that they are all installed the right way. My previous experience in building LEGO Technic sets (over 55 so far in my life time) really helped and I was able to work out how it was going together and what the next step would be. After finishing the building process and playing around with it I decided that I was not really happy with the bucket and that a claw which can be used to pickup items would be better. I have quite a limited stock of spare parts so this was made using what I had on hand. 6. I have my city collection on a large table with sides so that is fairly safe, my Technic is all on fairly high shelves so that is also safe,,, Just remember LEGO is to be played with :)
  7. It is clear that views on this vary between people to a large extent. To me if TLG sell it is is "pure", unless it has been cut, glued or coloured.
  8. Some more photos of my layout. MOC - Mobile Phone Tower
  9. I sure do, we are having a LEGO expo in April and these will form part of our display.
  10. Thanks for all the feedback. This is the first time in about 20 years that I have built these sets. For a long time Technic was what I was in to, now I am right back in to this and I am finding it very enjoyable. Today's build was a 4 story office building MOC, I was in a rush to get it finished before the wife gets home so some more work to do before I can share it :)
  11. Yes, we are having an expo here in April and this is the start of our layout. The road plate is from 6371 - Shell Service Station.
  12. The servo is a MOC, the rest are built from the building guides, 99% correct with only some stickers missing.
  13. I have just listed some of my LEGO Technic on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290872793024#ht_923wt_1271
  14. Thanks for the pictures and videos, it has given me some good ideas to work with.
  15. Hi all, We are hosting a LEGO expo in a couple of months time and as part of this I would like to have a demo course for the 9398 which I can setup. I have tried to design something but nothing looks that good and I want as much variety in it as possible. One idea I had was to get some gravel and rocks and build a course using them, weight would be an issue. Any ideas would be very helpful. Paul
  16. It pulls a 2.8KG load so I think it is strong enough :) I am going to change it to make the arm fold in and out, when I do this I will be making it stronger.
  17. Great collections everybody :) Here is the latest photo of mine:
  18. An update to the towing arm: Now includes a video of it pulling a 2.8KG load. http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/9398-b-model-with-tow-arm.html

  20. I found a copy at a local bookshop and grabbed it, I have not had time to read it fully but what I have read so far I have been very impressed with.
  21. A mod I made to this set last night http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/9398-b-model-mod-towing-arm.html
  22. I can recall somebody has made some instructions for various "C" model of this set, I can't find them now. Am I mistaken or do they not exist? Paul
