I am running a survey of AFOL to get some information on the demographic and type of people who enjoy this hobby. Please take the survey below, the results will be shared on my blog and I think they will make for some interesting reading. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VV59RD5

Collecting just a sub-theme?
Paul B Technic replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thank you Aanchir for your post, it makes a lot of sense to me. I will stick with that I like and maybe break the rules every now and then :) -
I did a trade and ended up with 8265, 8295 & 8421.

Well you need some shelves and a decent building space, here is what I use: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/new-shelves-search-is-over.html http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/designing-and-building-some-display.html

Collecting just a sub-theme?
Paul B Technic replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the replies, I always collect based on what I like (which does sometimes change over time) however my question was more based around if other people also do it and if so how do you decide what to base it on. I have decided to head in the direction of the construction / earth moving / trucks theme so this will focus my collection and give me something to build up. -
Has anybody ever considered collecting just a sub-theme such as just aircraft in the city theme or just cars in the Technic theme? I am considering selling off some of my Technic and just collecting the earth moving / construction / truck type sets within this theme. Would doing this limiting me too much? I am also looking at this to focus my MOC building in this direction with MOC’s which are related to this area. Looking on Brickset I could include 20 sets in the last 5 years within this theme and eBay has quite a few sets which would fit in this area, some quite old and rare. Do you collect a wide range of themes and sub-themes or do you limit yourself to just one?

Looking good. -
I have been working on expanding our club in to the local area following our expo two weeks ago. Our expo really got people keen to join in and be a part of what we are doing. Advertising via Facebook, poster in shops, the local paper and on TV really got us moving and people keen to be part of our club. I am just trying to chase all these people up to get some meetings happening to grow the club. If you have any questions please let me know.

maybe, I am not experienced enough to know if it is possible. -
My thoughts on the 2013 sets: 42000: Don’t like it, seems quite plain and basic to me. Also quite expensive here. 42002: Own it and really like how well it works and how good it looks for the price. 42004: Own it and also like it, good display piece. 42006: Does not do a lot for me, does look ok. 42007: Own it and think it is a stand out set, was a really fun build. 42008: Going to be a great set when it is released later this year. 42009: Going to be huge and complex, I am not a fan of cranes but this might swing me. 42010 / 42011: Good looking small sets, not really my cup of tea.

I played around with mine a bit, in the end I pulled it down for parts to do some MOCíng. What I would love to see is a automatic gear box which changes gears as you drive for speed or climbing ability. -
Little Rally Car "Kisauto"

Very well done, a good size and excellent features. -
Following the success of our LEGO expo which I ran (http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/p/brixhibition-north-2013.html) and all the admin work related to this I am now getting back in to doing my own thing with LEGO :) I now have a decent building desk and shelves so I can leave my MOCs between session without having to pack them up each time. I have undertaken some research on super cars as I have had the idea for quite a while to build one of my own, this has lead me to a question I can not answer: What is a super car and how does this differ from a concept car or any other type and design of LEGO Technic cars? Does a MOC car need to have any specific features, functions or design / size to be classed as this? My goal is to design and build something quite special for our next display in October so I want to get the basics "right" before I get too far in to the build process.
