I'd say passenger train wise: Metroliner. Freight train: 4564. I'd go for the yellow cargo train first, since the metroliner does not have a regulator in the set to power the rails. Also it might be a good idea to get some 9V points, that way you can mix your existing PF track with 9V. At first you won't have much 9V rails, so you could make a small loop, that connects to a bigger PF loop via those 9V points. I have started collecting trains just like you, in the PF era. But i soon realised that there is a limited amount of sets to collect if you only focus on PF. Going 9V is a logical step, since RC trains can run on these tracks, and it's rails are compatible.

Very nice! I think you did a awesome job capturing this train in lego!

I have a 9V trainset that came without the standard PSU, and uses a cheap PSU with 12V DC output for power. Seems to work just fine.

Newbie help with measurements for our first LEGO City?
Jorrith replied to theboyk's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Use the link Zed_43 provided... I have been brainstorming about a lego room for quite some while (and i need one really soon!) and bluebrick was ideal to lay out a virtual layout for the train tracks. (you can easily fit the town to the layout, but if you are using 9V tracks, or PF tracks without flextrack, it's a different story) 84x122 cm is not much room for a track.... you might want to go for a modular setup, so you can expand when the wife gives the go-ahead.... nothing wrong with a little planning ahead. -
I just downloaded your instructions, thank you for sharing this! For a while i dreamt about making a copy of the local Leeuwarden railway station, but due to the track layout a realistic build would have been complicated. (3 out of 4 tracks are non-continuous) I think your design will fit in better with a city design, and it's modular to boot!

Now that's a railway station! (not the shoddy bus stops that lego passes off as a railway station, like their latest sets) If you happen to have a LDD file of this station, please share!

You really should file a complaint with lego... One thing they are famous for, is customer service, and they will definatly not tolerate behaviour like this from their employees.

I am using a Contour HD 720P camera, but this camera is outdated, and there is a 1080 (full HD version) now, and some others. I have used it for filming while playing paintball for the last 3 years, but i am very sure there are lighter and smaller camera's for this use now, and at a lower price. For this purpose you don't need a camera that can take a beating... (it got shot up the lens with paintballs a few times)

I've had this set too! This is one of those retro sets i would like to have again, since my parents gave away (yes you are reading correctly) the lego's we had at home because we were all adults.

Looking forward to it!

Looks nice, but why do you want this to push your constitution, when you can add the PF to the set? This is a motorized constitution. The only things changed are the motor is under the tender, and the jail car has 2 studs added to it's length to accomodate the wires. Everything fits nicely. The train runs ok on flat tracks, but due to the weight of the tender, it slips on flextrack. The easy fix is to add some small change (coins) into the hidden compartment of the tender. Unfortunatly the gatling gun car has to be moved to the rear, but if you are not ok with that, you could use a longer wire to route power to the motor.

Family house? What familiy house? Wow what a fantastic layout you have there! You did a great job on the house, but i would definatly like to see more of your city.

Wow... I wish i had a office mancave like that! Nice video, great to see that others are also strapping a camera onto a train.

[MOC] Ascension Church (Kolomna, Russia)
Jorrith replied to PolkovnikOnTheWhiteHorse's topic in LEGO Town
First of all, the original church is a piece of art on it's own... Wow... And you did an awesome job recreating it in lego! -
Very nice indeed! Lots of little details, and it's exactly like i recall Minas Tirith from the movies! Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks all! @ Hrw-Amen: I feel your pain, since i also lack the room for a permanent layout... But the upside is that everytime you lay track, it's different every time! But indeed, putting it away again sure is a pain.

I have made another video... This time with a motorized 79111 Constitution train chase, 10219 Maersk train and i also got a 4563 Load and haul railroad. (part of the track is now 9V) http://youtu.be/lU0w_DvUCo4 Enjoy!

I don't have a dual HE... (yet.. ) but i did notice performance issues with PF, and 9V are mainly caused by the weight above the PF/9V motor, (more pressure is more grip) and the kind of track. (Flextrack has horrible grip, and is very noticable with long trains) The biggest disadvantage to the 9V system is that it's metal wheels on metal track, so they can slip very easily. But if you add enough weight, things are good. Same goes with PF, my constitution train chase has the motor under the tender, and would slip on flextrack very easy because the tender is very light. (as soon as money permits, i refuse to lay flextrack!) Either way, my fix was to add some small change (money) inside the tender, and grip is good again. HE is a heavy train, so a dual HE should atleast need two motors. The cheapest way to reverse PF motor direction is either A: Modify the motor, or B: get a extension cord and swap the middle two wires.

I've recently also got this set, but thought putting PF in it would be impossible... You did an incredible job! My 4563 came with track and controller, so the easiest thing to me seemed to add a few points and make a 9V loop inside my PF layout.

Combining the futuron monorail with a 7745 passenger train
Jorrith replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I totally forgot to comment on tweakers.net, it looks real neat so far! (FiXeL here... ) Oh, and when it's done... No need to say a video is mandatory... -
Wow, this is an amazing build! I really love all the details, and the size is very impressive! Thanks for sharing!
