The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion

It is not connected to the MRCA at this time. There is no current form for MRCA, so nobody should have filled it out yet. I am working on it! You are right, don't count yields this month, or you will be in the hole. I like MKJosh's reasoning, and that was about the way I was thinking, your new business would not start yielding until after the month it was registered, so that shop this month that got you 10DBs for being a free build, you will have to wait until the end of February to see a yield -- this doesn't mean that you couldn't calculate that into your spending for February, just be careful!

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
"If they build legally on another faction’s territory a rent will be charged per month, and set by the ruling council / monarch of that faction. IF built on land nobody owns, then the cost for the license is halved (just building materials!)" From here But I may have misspoke, and this is partially because I wrote the rules, I thought it was in there that since the Sea Rats don't own territories that any Sea Rat on a "Sea Rat" island would set up their licenses for half off rounded up (just the materials, not the pay to the nation). However, I suppose checking with the faction to figure if that is how they want to handle it would be prudent. My original idea was that the Sea Rats wouldn't be paying full fees outside of the established towns. But again, this is actually up to the leadership there. All ship licenses are always the designated amount, and cannot be halved. However, since factions receive half of all property licenses (later on, as there are people who own whole islands, this money would go to them) they can waive that part of the fee... However, (to other faction leaders) I would not do it often, because this is where a substantial form of revenue and FIPs are going to come from.- 897 replies

I actually meant that you could set up a MASTRO post in Tiberia so that you guys have a presences there, and then start building your MOCs for the settlement. You don't really have to put up a post though if you don't want. On a further note, I suppose builders could move a license to a new moc, other than a mine.- 897 replies

Sir Thomas Smaugton, The Queen's Small Council has considered your proposal for a settlement on Tiberia, Her Majesty's government would like to offer a counter proposal. Open a MAESTRO post in Tiberia, we will waive the license fee for the initial headquarters (This means you would pay half rounded up in game terms for "supplies" This is the same Sea Rats pay for properties). Wait until we have negotiated between the other great powers our claims on the many new islands that we have charted lately. We don't expect there to be war over these islands, and we believe we will have negotiated our claims on at least one, if not two within the next month and a half. (IE: when challenge I ends, we will have one or two new islands to choose from.) You will have first choice of planting on one of our new islands. We will award you the title of Mayor of the settlement, and you will be her majesty's will in the new settlement. If all goes well, you would be in line for a governorship somewhere in our new possessions and report to Viceroy Oxley. You may advance to the islands and start planning the colony. (IE: you can start building now, buy licenses, and then place the settlement on the new maps in a month and a half -- we would consider that your character had knowledge of where the Corlanders were aiming their efforts of colonization, and already begun the colony.) Please let her majesty know what you think of her proposal. Sincerely, Admiral Woodbrose Minister of the Colonies- 897 replies

I don't think we will be getting up to class 15 any time soon in the rules! haha. I think the KoS was more class 2 than the Apples vessel, which I thought might be a Class 3 (in my opinion, but not too far off that we would ask for a change! Like I said, there is creative license here!)- 25 replies

Well, each son and daughter of Corrington that does this challenge will receive the Queen's customary medal for such a voyage, which includes 5DBs out of the nations coffers. --- As for prizes, yes, there will be a reward of DBs for those in the system, and general PIPs for everyone.

[COR - FB/Vessel] The Xebec "Sphinx"
SkaForHire replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice vessel here! I like that it is low to the water, and looks like it cuts well. Surely a fast vessel! Class-wise, I could see this being a small version of the Class 2. To be honest, most of the class 2 vessels that we have seen have felt a little bit bigger than what I imagined. I imagined class one = ITP ship size. This vessel seems a bit larger, and does well to convey speed (with the sacrifice of cargo space in a Trade ship).- 25 replies

As for the ratings question, Bregir, et al. seem to have a good understanding here, as a rating system there is creative license. Think of the numbers in terms of strength in a battle rather than absolute values of crew. Yes. Will they? Who knows! If you were allowed at first to construct a fort, and then the faction wanted to take that fort back, then we would use resolution methods to remove the fort rather than saying "we captured the fort." Otherwise, properties can be condemned by the faction (I am not saying that this would happen arbitrarily in every case, and I think the general opinion is to make it somewhat fair through a court trial or a conflict resolution method described elsewhere)

The planet started on Fractal Terrains 3, zoomed sections of the planet were converted to Campaign Cartographer 3, then saved as a JPG. Then they were made into a PSD layered file in Photoshop, where grids, scales, names, etc... were added, and then resaved as a JPG for the published versions. You could substitute Gimp in there for PS, but I had the world making software from years ago, and decided it was much easier than making a geographically authentic looking map by hand.

Let me see if I can dig up an elevation chart from the mapping program, but all of them are pretty low. Actually, most of the islands that we will be seeing this year are low elevation. as for terrain, these will come in the future as new maps are made for each island, I am just behind on the islands we already know about! Most features will be open for naming.

Your sigfig is not required in any of these challenge builds. Although the second one states that it is your sig fig finding land, you could use a secondary character.

That helmet is more or less around the 1820s, but still in the age of Sail, but Diving Bells were used for salvage much earlier, as early as the 16th century. -

A flurry of recent reports have come in, and there seem to be at least 13 new islands in the near vicinity of Nelissa. New Batch One by skaforhire, on Flickr A word to the wise, it can be heartbreaking to plant a new colony or settlement on one of these new islands and find that another nation has already done so as well! Careful in your claiming land! (IE: After challenge one and two, nations are going to pick from these 12 unnamed islands. You can still build on them before this, but if another faction takes over the island you chose to build on, they may force your settlement off! [although, they may also let you keep it, so it is a gamble!])

As noted before, the categories can be loosely interpreted. Reasons why we have different categories will be more evident later on when we put in the skills system. -

Any national settlement is ran by the faction leaders, so there may be an NPC leader. I would assume that it is OK to put anything you want in Bastion though. Unless the rules there tighten up. -

All ships have a set crew, that goes into their type value. To supplement that crew with more fighters, then you would have to pay for your crew. But, as I said, all vessels already have a crew -- it is part of their rating, and there is no upkeep on those.- 780 replies

It is the license form, not the free build form that had to be fixed. So if you used the license form, then you will have to resubmit.
