  1. This thing is genius, wonderful job. Looks like it could be a set (so perfectly in the spirit of the competition).
  2. I always like these kinds of projects! They offer a totally different type of challenge than the regular technic build, and the challenge of keeing a structure strong and rigid is one often forgotten by people (case in point, TheItalianBrick). It is a totally different kind of challenge than normally faced, but that's part of what makes it interesting. (that said, I'm a fan of "bridge builder" games so I like these constructional challenges). Anyhow, 10 meters is quite an achievement. Well done! I'm quite surprised you used mostly rectangles and not very many triangles. I'd say the outer structure would lend itself perfectly to add triangular bracing. So to be honest I'm a bit surprised it holds up so well (although it looks like the complete tower has som triangular bracing in the lower sections). Anyhow, good job :)
  3. What I don't understand is, why is the spare wheel different from the other four wheels? I think they should have used the thinner wheels/tyres for the car as well. The current wheels are way too wide. For the rest, the set is almost-perfect, and I know I want it :) Also, thanks for the great review and the superb-quality pictures :)
  4. Seeing how little empty space there is left (i.e. none at all) fitting all the fnctionality in looks tobe an incredible achievement! Awesome job on that. The model without the body just shows how much functionality fits in the space beneath. One of the best mods I have seen. It seems that except for the outer shell, you modified everything. Great!
  5. Do I see two black 3 x 0.5 beams at the very back of the crane base (behind the red panels)? If you replace it with a 3 beam you can save one part ;) Anyhow, yes I think black flex axles for the cabin are your best bet to save some parts. A trans-yellow system part would look out of place. For the rest, a lovely model, and good job on fitting the crane functions.
  6. To be really honest I REALLY like the red version. That said, of all the yellow versions, the final one has the best color scheme with the black arm and the black top over the back section. Great design. It even has a swinging rear axle, nice touch :)
  7. This thing is brilliant. I particularly like the little loader, that has only twelve yellow parts (including the rims) yet it looks really good.
  8. That depends on what you want to do. For the purposes TLG has in mind, the new one is probably better because it is easier to fit in, and the forces won't be as high. The force limit is only a problem if you're gonig to exert a lot of force on the part - something that won't be done in official sets because playing with official sets should never induce part damage. Also, there would only be an issue if the old worm will disappear. If the old worm stays, the new part only gives more options. :)
  9. The version with the loader bucket just looks like a LEGO set. Really. It's a magnificent model. Use it. It even has a steering wheel for the operator :D Just change the 3L axle with stud that operates the bucket tilt - make it longer so that on one side you could put a 12t double bevel gera to operate as the turning wheel. This is what set designers would do too. Also, if you free some parts, you could add rear lights. Also, that lone lime beam seems off.
  10. Actually, the body works quite well here, with the white panels. Good use of parts there. I like the colors too. How's the steering operated? Is there a hand-of-God wheel somewhere? Also what is the 24t gear doing? Anyhow. I'd try to put the seats a bit more to the back, and the cabin a bit more forward. Right now it looks kind of odd.
  11. The smaller version is definitely better in my opinion. It looks much less "open", and the use of colors is better as well (more gray, less black). Great build, well done :)
  12. This is magnificent! But not really a Technic model. Not sure it even applies. But besides that, wonderful micro model.
  13. I like the use of the 5x7x0.5 and 3x5x0.5 liftarms with quarter ellipse to form the cabin. It works quite well here. I like it.
  14. This is a lovely model. Pretty compact, doesn't feel empty. Are you sure the parts don't exist in green? The angle connectors 2, 3 and 5 are in 8479, the panels and some beams are in 42008. Maybe you could work with cross blocks 1x2 instead of 1x3 as these are in 8479 as well.
  15. It's pretty large. I'm curious how you will stay within 200 parts with this.
  16. I liked your model A LOT better when it was a loader. The huge gripper looks out of scale and makes the entire model pretty ugly (in my opinion). A loader may be a bit less original, but it looks much better!
  17. It looks magnificent, but to be honest I don't like the huge rear end (mainly because it's completely empty). What would happen if you would make that smaller, or remove it altogether? Also I think ou should have a turning knob for the top LA, to make it more like official sets.
  18. I like it. Red, gray, blue is a great combination. Could use a bit more blue though - maybe you could use blue for the cover of the blades? The functionality is also decent, it has engine plus differential, and the rolling blades. Is it possible to uncouple the blades from the wheels? DOes the real machine have that (I don't know). Really the only minus I could think of is that kids might not know what this is, so it might not sell well as a set, but that's not really about the model itself, merely about the "spirit" of the competition.
  19. Really nice little excavator. I like the use of color, the use of gray, yellow and black compliments the color of the pneumatic cylinders and hoses very well. I do think the base of the arm is a bit high for my taste. I would find it more logical if that were a bit nearer to the turntable. Also, the seat looks kind of weird and unfinished, with only three liftarms and those holes in between them. Maybe it would help already if you would just make it another color - something that stands out a bit more. Blue maybe? That would make most sense given how Lego itself uses blue, plus it matches the blue long pins.) Thirdly, as alrady pointed out, you might want to have shorter tubing in some places :) But for the rest, really nifty, good use of pneumatics and good to see it has all three degrees of freedom. Did you count every tube as a part by the way? Not sure if this should be done, but better safe than sorry :)
  20. Do I see a universal joint at the very bottom? I assume that's for the control at the back for the function of the arm, right? Is the control knob for that easily reachable? I'm asking, because right now it looks like it's very close to the ground. You might want to move that up using two 16t gears. There's room in the back for that. Secondly, the windscreen seems to connected only at the top and only on one side, correct? I think it would be much better and more in the Lego spirit if it were connected at the bottom too. This is possible if you accept having a slanted roof (the 1x2 piece would be a leaning tiny bit forward) - replace the horizontal yellow 4x0.5 beams by 6x0.5 beams (I think black would be best). For the rest, wonderful and very mini little model. Definitely official-set-worthy :)
  21. Interesting subject. Smart solution with the double action (gear racks and up/down). Very curious what this will turn out to be, especially in the aesthetics department :) (By the way, Lundgren, you could still do that - noone "owns" the idea :)
  22. The rear hatch is a great addition - after all this is Technic and this is a simple yet effective technical function. It's a lovely little model and it's hard to believe it's just 200 parts - it feels like more.
  23. Yes, this is a great compo. What makes it great is that it's easy to find time to build something small, so this is great for those who don't have the time to build something large (or don't have such a large collection).
  24. This would be a lovely part to have :) (But I'm always for more generic parts).
  25. I like how the entire back part is a module that is easily attached to the rest of the model. Nice "way of building" there. Also, well done on the amount of functions in a small space. :)
