Hmm. This might be interesting. I don't normally buiild Model Team. This might be a good enough reason to get out of my building comfort zone :)

I think if we want to convince the competition leader that digital entries should be allowed, the first thing to do is ask why are digital entries not allowed? A problem I would have with digital entries is that you can't check their buildability. At least when something is a photograph you can be sure the model actually stays together. -
Wow, some really good entries ended up really low. There were some really good models that were actual Technic mini models (about 100 parts). Anyhow, the top three are three really good models and indeed the winner is an awesome model. Congratulations to all winners! And congratulations to everyone who is pleased with their position :) It was an awesome competition, see you round the next one :)

Not everyone has all the parts or is willing to buy parts for a competition. At least, I won't. I'm all for putting everyone on the same scale as parts goes, but why not compose a custom list of parts that are fairly common? Edit: also, I'm not in the race for the prizes. There can be a competition even without prizes. I think competitions are much like "challenges" in the sense that they request us to build in a way that we don't normally do, resulting in a model that otherwise wouldn't have existed. -
It looks like there is no rule that states we should only give integer number of points to every entry, right? So I could give 3.5 point to someone if I wanted, right?

Why? With the totally-free point distribution system all those "lot of people" can distribute their points the way they prefer. Why force those who want to vote differently into a specific, and frankly rather arbitrary, point system? If I feel that three top entries are requally good, I want to allot the same number of points to three entries. How I want to distribute the points totally depends on what entries there are. So a good voting system is usable no matter which entries there are - and the freer the point distribution, the better. The better everyone's individual point distribution expressed his or her feeling best, the better the final scoring will represent the general combined feeling of everyone who voted. And isn't that the whole idea of voting at all? I'm thinking of giving 20 entries one point. If that distrubiton represents my feeling best, I should be able to do that, right? (To be honest, I love voting systems that leave me free to distribute my points how I want, rather than using arbitrary magic numbers just because some well-known system uses those same arbitrary magic numbers. But I hate "doing what others do because others do it" anyway.). -

I think the next competition should force entrants to supplyh a picture-without-fuss (just the final model by itself) which can be used to take a miniature of for a compilation picture. A second reason for this is that I fear that the current setup fof requiring advertisement imagery puts ahead those that are better with image software and design (which I don't think is a fair way of winning). There are some really good pictures out there and I know how hard it can be to look through the editing and only to the model by itself. (In that regard, having a digital file would mean a more even playing field where everyone uses the exact same presentation, so that the only deciding factor could be the model itself. Not saying one should pursue that, just mentioning it for the argument.) Another issue that I'd like to address is voting-for-oneself. Currently this is not allowed. Is anyone aware that this means that the very act of voting puts the voter at a disadvantage? If we were even allowed to allot 1 of the 20 points to oneself, then at least voting wouldn't be disadvantagious to oneself. (or any other way that wouldn't put the voter at a disadvantage) I know it's good sportsmanship to not vote oneself, but I think people could be left with a sore feeling when they turn out to be the guy that lost by one point because he showed good sportsmanship. -
Why exactly is it bad to not allot all 20 points? I mean, why is there a rule about that?

I edited my entry post to add PDF instructions, I hope that is OK :) Anyhow, the last few days have brought a few excellent entries :) Very curious what the voting round will bring us, it's hard to predict anything.

[MINI] Submarine
Erik Leppen replied to Tamas Juhasz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The model was cool already before I found out you use the same pneumatic system as 8868's B-model. It's beyond awesome now :)- 17 replies

Nice little model. The version with the roof makes me think "south pole expedition" :) I like the open version better, but the fact that we can choose is a plus. So definitely keep the detachable roof :)

This is lovely, and perfectly within the spirit of the competition. Well done! :) -
Question: are those the new or the old grays? And yes, I have always found this set intriguing as well, due to the originality and the "technical" look of it. I don't own one, but have checked out the instructions more than once :)

I have officially entered now. Looking at hthat compilation image, I have to say, I love the sheer diversity in all the entries. There are trucks of any kind, cars, construction equipment, farming equipment, airplanes, helicopters, and some that defy categorization. Same goes for the variation in color. All lovely little MOCs that show that quality doesn't necessarily come with size. I like that. (Also all those parts images are a great help for those who want to build each other's models.

The greates thing about this is how you managed to get all these functions AND a great resemblance :D -
Update! I finally found some time to make a few changes. I kept the basic design, but made a lot of small changes. In particular I removed all System parts, because I wasn't happy with the lack of design coherence. So it's now a full Technic model. Personally I think it's for the better :) I changed the front bumper, because I wasn't happy with the holes on the sides. I think it's better now, because it's studless and fits in more with the rest. Also it's now connected to the part above, which increases rigidity. I moved the rear axle one stud backwards for better proportions. I changed the sides in front of the rear wheels to something studless. I also replaced the axles above the rear wheels by long beams because these look better. This induced an updated rear end, which I think is better as well now. The sides of he roof have changed from axle connectors to beams which I think is better too. It's now at 190 parts. Those tyres look to be perfect, for a lot of things. They are huge, they have a nice profile. I think they would work great on, well, anything really. :D I want them. Right now, if possible :P Rest of the set looks awesome as well by the way. But I don't care about the gold hubs - who needs gold hubs? But I want those tyres. :D
