Gaah, did you read my mind when I mentioned that class yesterday? I suppose besides the name and the idea of buffing they're fairly different, though. I was toying with the idea of a mounted class but assumed it'd be pointless since everyone would choose Dragoon over it, but giving both the mounted concept and the buffing feature to the same class is an interesting solution. That said....I think it's too powerful. Ignoring row and defense is one thing, but on a class that's already permanently hastened, that's way too much damage. And that shield is just....damn. Every single member of the party deals a Critical Hit that ignores defense to every single member of the enemy party, and the next three party members get guaranteed rolls? That's both complicated and really overpowered. I would drop the SP piercing, for one. Heroic Charge needs to be changed into something else completely, I think manipulating rolls is just too powerful, as is the damage inflicted. It's a great idea for a class, though. Just needs a bit more balancing work.

My point is that I don't think a character shouldn't be able to make connections this clearly when all the information he has to work off of is "A Mopag farmer helped these heroes in R'klif," which is I detail I can't even imagine anyone remembering unless they actually experienced it. Doesn't your character being able to know (mostly) everything that goes on in every Quest kind of take away from the experience of being there and being able to actually go through it for those that were originally on the Quest? Maybe it's just me. I like the idea of Quests being almost story or legend-like, even to other heroes, being able to say 'I was there' or 'I did that'. It's like if a random hero walked up to Arthur asking in vivid detail about his outbursts in Quest 53. (Not taking a stab at you Flipz, just giving an example).

I feel like that having a very knowledgeable character is fine as long as it's not or completely ignoring what's reasonable for an actual person to be able to recall or remember. Freedom of roleplaying is an obvious necessity, but never forgetting a single detail about anything your character has ever heard is something else. It's a farmer from a village. I have a hard time believing Arthur can remember him no matter the circumstances surrounding it. If he was on the Quest, yeah, it'd make perfect sense. But this guy isn't dressed up like a farmer, Arthur doesn't know what he looks like, and the only connection he could make is that he's from R'klif and knows heroes. Isn't it assuming a little too that Arthur can place exactly where and how he met a group of heroes nearly two years ago on a Quest he wasn't even on?

Atramor relied heavily on the Pheles Rod as he walked along the rocky, slippery path along the falls. It wasn't unlike walking along the sails of ships, except, well....he wouldn't be coming back from a fall from up here. That in mind, he was careful to use the staff to check for particularly weak areas in the rock before walking along them. Maybe in an earlier time he wouldn't've bothered, but it seemed like death had been even closer than ever recently. "I'll take your word for it," commented Atramor through the thick mist. I've got one idea called the Inquisitor that's pretty much built around obliterating enemies that use ether (and to a lesser degree, defense...it's less around protecting your party as much as it is levellng the playing ground between the party and enemies) and has an automatic multiplier against demonic and holy enemies that's similar to what you mean. It was directly inspired by Thothwick.

I've got one that's built around the idea of a leader acting as both support and offense, hopefully that'll appeal to some. Similar to a Knight, but sacrifices a shield to be able to buff allies.

Good point. A lot of my ideas involve giving players a choice as to what to do (similar to healing or spellcasting rather than just attacking), since it's a lot more fun to strategize with them in mind...but limiting them to just two (like how Sages can't physically attack) or having too many doesn't leave much room.

I'm curious to hear what kind of Expert classes people think we're lacking. I have an inordinate amount of ideas and wonder which would be most sought-after. I notice a lack of healing and magic classes, but nobody seems to be minding all that much when going from Mage to Dragoon. What does everyone look for?
