Axle Collection Thread
Zerobricks replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I suggest you use the new diff and 12 tooth gear, since the new diff can't move sideways away from the gear. -

That is very odd indeed, you sure it's a genuine Lego part?- 5,504 replies

Pink would be an aweseme and a very bold color for Technic IMO, especially in the combination with the purple. Anyway, back on topic, I can't wait to get this set and motorize it, already tinkered digitally and should be able to fit at least 2 drive and 1 steering motor alonged with the new diff and stronger CV joints.

Problem with current bevel/spur gear hybrids is that the supur teeth have to be short in order not to interfer with bevel gears when used as a bevel gear. This means they run less smooth and that the bevel teeth have a tendency to rub agains beams sideways, further reducing their efficiency. The new gears will be stronger, smoother and more efficient. Now the question that comes to mind is, if we will get new purpose-designed bevel gears too?- 5,504 replies

[MOC] LEGO 8440 Update
Zerobricks replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It really shows how the new panels add to the organic flow of the models compared to the old techniques. Only thing that worries me is front suspension, the liftarms are hanging only on 2 pins, maybe using the 6L suspension arms would be a better tidea if you want a slim profile. -

Why make it so big? How else are you going to support a 2m tall crane while keeping it robust enough for an average consumer And you can also use the 3x11 panels for such supports where you need a hole through, personally I already used it once with a combination with a 16L axle, but can't recall what MOC was it right now...- 5,504 replies

Probably limitations of the tooling, it would take a very long rod to make holes in that orientation through the whole part.- 5,504 replies

Combining Motors
Zerobricks replied to CharlesD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good call, agreed. -
There is no limited slip differential, the small CV joints drive the standard differential directly which drives a 20 tooth gear which drives the engine. If you'd wanted a lockable diff, it would have to be the new version with additional 3 studs of space needed at the side for the lock. And finally the small CV joints are too weak for such locking and would get damaged over time.
