  1. It was a picture of the truck (not the box) but along side the picture it clearly showed the set has a PF battery box and a medium motor, it struck me this is where they would advertise the fact it had pneumatics normally, and the yellow thing which I original thought was a pneumatic cylinder looked suspiciously like the hard shock absorber from this years motor bike. It is fine, I love construction vehicles, so it's a must buy for me, but it just looked plain, almost like it had too many wheels. Technically I'm sure it will be superb, but 8421 might still hold a fond place with me. If anything, the stabilisers looked a little flimsy for such a large vehicle. I'm sorry, I don't recall the boom in much detail, I recall the 2 large linear actuators connected to the boom via light bley cams, and there were big regular wheel hubs for the string to roll around at the end of the jib. Strange how you only remember certain parts. Paul
  2. Yes, the 4 stabilisers telescope to lift the vehicle off the ground, these are activated from within the body of the vehicle, driven by this axle which was white, could just be a 3D rapid prototype part whilst the new part is being made, it drove the usual tan small flat cog to the mini linear actuators, I've no idea how it works internally, there was then a black beam about 2 studs lower in parallel with the axle which looks like how it slides in and out, hard to explain. There was also 2 large Linear Actuators side by side which raise and lower the boom, Regarding the recovery truck, too hope I'm wrong, but the catalogue image was approx. 20cm wide by 10cm tall, it was a very clear image. Hopefully they have just hidden the pneumatics in the body of the truck. Paul
  3. The picture clearly showed a PF battery box and PF Medium motor and there was no reference to Pneumatics, I could be wrong and will happily eat humble pie, but I think everyone is going to be disappointed.
  4. Just got back from town, seen the retailers summer catalogue today, 60013, Coast Guard Helicopter. This looked very ulgy, the front cockpit could have been duplo but 60015, Coast Guard Plane, takes the crown for the pig ugliest set of the year in the town range. It is almost a copy of the Police seaplane from a couple of years back. 60020, Cargo Truck, £25, is a beautiful set.
  5. I got a close look at the retailers catalogue today. Bad news for anyone that expects Pneumatics with the recovery truck, It does not look like it has any! The thing in the prelim picture which looked like a pneumatic cylinder at the rear of the truck near the towing spectacle looks to me to be a Technic Shock Absorber. The total set appears to be powered by 1 medium motor. Moving onto the technic crane, seeing a bigger picture, it's not the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but it looks big. It's powered by a single large motor, the stabilisers are the interesting part, they appear to extend by what might be a new part (new axle) as in the picture it looked to be made out of a 3D manufactured part possibly indicating the new mold is not ready? The 4 stabilisers then have at the end of each of them, a mini linear actuator pointing vertically downwards which is driven by this new looking axle. I'm not convinced this solution will have the strength to lift a couple of Kg of crane off the ground, but it certainly looks realistic. Paul
  6. The City Tower crane from 2006 with 57 technic elements vs 120 general elements could almost be considered a technic tower crane if it had been sold in different packaging, I was always amazed we did not see more motorisation of that set, it was a good study build. http://www.bricklink...nv.asp?S=7905-1 Anything made by Tigercat would be desirable. Paul
  7. Not a cheap way I'm sure but I'd love to have a display method something like this: http://www.train-safe.de/index_en.php?section=12 I don't understand scales, so no idea if they make cases to Lego scale? Paul
  8. Just finished building mine today, One thing I've noticed, on the last formal building step (where you add the wheels) there is an indication to place 6 transclear 1x1 round plates (and these are included with the set) any idea what they are supposed to be used for / as? I also had a disformed molding on the piston rod in the set, which makes the engine very tight Paul
  9. One of the big limitations was the receiver and battery pack was built into a large 6 x 30 stud baseplate, which is fine if you want to make very standard engines, but it was limted. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2016c01 The RF range was fairly poor from memory, and the motors were somewhat lacking in power when it came to pulling heavier or longer trains. The remote did produce a "train horn" noise if you like that sort of thing. As the Remote ran on a single frequancy so to speak, it meant when running multiple RF trains, they all responded to one controller, it did not give the serious train fan the ability to safely control multiple trains. But the rolling stock and overall design of the green train was fine. I think it was likely intended to compete against the Playmobile train? It may have just be a quick stopgap for Lego? The Adult fans were from memory working behind the scenes with Lego to design the current Power functions solution, bringing a toy for kids, but with components AFOL's could benefit from. Paul
  10. I'm rather disappointed in shop at home, I knew they should have offered people the opportunity to pre-order and they would have known the demand! Maybe they are processing the Christmas sale item backlogs?
  11. lol, set 30222 another police helicopter in a polybag for 2013! Does that make the tally of helicopters for 2013 10 in total?
  12. I think you may have seen a set from Summer 2010 which was a TRU exclusive (apart from also available from Lego Direct retail), Came with a blue Tram, Yellow Bus, Green Bicycle, and a Orange an White road sweeper amoung a couple of other accessories.
  13. I've never understood why Lego insist on Blue flashing lights on their recovery vehicles instead of Orange, or yellow. In England Blue is reserved for Fire/Police/Ambulane, I guess it comes from which ever country they are copying the vehicle from, which must use Blue lights? It's an easy Mod though, so nothing to worry about, I just wondered which countries use Blue lights on their recovery vehicles?
  14. I like it, but it does look a little odd, I'm not sure it looks like a regular. Modular?
  15. Same here, getting impatient now. You can bet they won't be offering free delivery in january as well!
  16. I got the crawler, but it was kind of a present to myself!
  17. Do you have the catalogue number to hand? Or a link to their product, page? I cannot find it?
  18. The mars rover is really cool, but I see 2 issues with it: 1. It was in the news all the time back in August when it first made it to Mars, by the time Lego actually make it, and release it for sale, it will be last years news so to speak, the only help for some free PR will be when it goes out of control or it's driven into a ditch and lost forever. 2. I seem to recall the previous Discovery Channel sets including a Mars rover of sorts, and there were many of them in the clearance bin at the end of the year? I'm not sure any to the next wave of sets will be successful? Paul
  19. Watching the video about the decision, I was surprised at how small (1%) the royalty is for the set designer, giving without them there is no idea? Although it's good they have decided to donate this to charity, you think the Lego group might have considered doubling the commission when they heard this news?
  20. That may be the best use for the big green tipper part I've ever seen.
  21. 2010 Christmas day I remember waking to find 2nd half images posted on the net, it was a nice present, lets hope the same happens again this year :-)
  22. Booooooo A European design of train, released in the US first.........
  23. I experiemented with an ultrasonic bath, it was only a small one from Maplin in the UK, cost about £30, but it was a bit of a disappointment to be honest, whilst it removed some dust, I was expecting better results. http://www.maplin.co.uk/ultra-7000-ultrasonic-cleaner-223108?c=maplin&utm_source=gcs&utm_medium=gcs_search&utm_campaign=A46HQ&utm_content=Ultrasonic+Cleaners
  24. Something to do with the Disney Lone Ranger sets coming next year I think?
