  1. 2nd video, 1:08 into the video......Lego historian says Technic is 30 years old..............maybe a slip of the tongue, but you would think she would get this right. but more important. Where can I get one of those Lego Technic 40 year posters from? they look like they are ready to give away to fans...
  2. I love those brick pattern 1 x 2 bricks in peoples creations. I just wish there was a way to obtain then for a cheaper price! we need them to appear in a pick a brick wall!
  3. I think also there is consideration to be made for the progress Lego has made in the sets, the available elements, and in some ways we have been spoilt over the years. Thinking back to the early days. We were blown away in the 80's with the new minifigures, city, garage doors and trains, etc. with such a small selection of elements. But now we know Lego can make exceptional sets, we are then disappointed when there is a theme or year where the sets are just not quite as good. I'm sure there is something to be said for Lego now trying to be a more profitable company. I look at the box size and think of the price I would expect the set to be. But this is my memory of childhood set pricing often. I'm sure pricing is the main problem, if the set was cheap, we would not complain about the features, design, etc. We would just see it as a way to obtain cheap bricks.
  4. I've always had fondness or the Winter Villiage sets, and this is a nice addition, I agree it could have been a little bigger, I really struggling to see more than £49.99 for this set, and there is no chance it's going to come down in price, do I guess it's just a case of you want it, you have to pay the price.
  5. Well apart from the monorail track moulds.......
  6. Although I'm not convinced this is good for us getting value for money out of our sets in the future: "Niels began his career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co."
  7. Just to show what Smyths Toys in the UK was giving away today. Got 2 Jungle Polybags (Set 30355), two double sided posters and some stickers. The shop said it the event had not been published apart from on their website, no promotion in store during the previous weeks. So the had tons of boxes of the polybags and they were just giving them out freely. Posters are good enough quality to justify framing!
  8. Some kind of free giveaway at Smyths toys on Saturday 12th August in the UK. Guess it might be a Jungle polybag https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/in-store-events
  9. Smyths Toys, on Saturday 12th, free Lego giveaway! https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/in-store-events Update: Here is what we got
  10. I thought I read somewhere that the reason for change from 12v to 9v was forced by the toy regulator. I thing I read that the boughtin rules saying a childs toy should be over 9v, hence the dropping of the 12v line? Could be wrong, and I have no evidence of this.
  11. Ecto 1 was a great set, same cannot be said for the instruction manual supplied with the set..............
  12. I think we just have to hope that whoever was responsible for celebrating 40 years of Lego Technic in 2017 is not responsible for the 60th Anniversary of the Lego brick next year!
  13. still like the mean look of this truck, the review is great. The price point is not an issue, will just wait for amazon to knock a 3rd off, I'm just annoyed by the unfinished bed of the truck, and that flimsey looking crame arm. Despite the lifting capacity being ok. Why would they not just beef the whole thing up with a couple of panels down the side of the crane arm to make it look tough and strong like the rest of the truck? It's not like cost vs RRP selling price was a consideration here. It's just slightly unfinished.
  14. you can just see those red beams and the pins holding them together screaming under the load from the pneumatic cylinders ;-) Quite a nice effort though, and a rare model for Lego, one they could potentially make for real one day.
  15. This is the first time in a number of years I've not desired a second set of the flagship model to build the B model in addition to the A model. Sad times. on a more positive, I like the fire truck and the snow off roader
  16. Maybe TOW-067 is the phone number, in that American sort of way you see on their adverts. Where a letter on the phone keypad relates to a number so 8 = T, 6 = O, 9 = W - 067 869067
  17. Definately interesting and I agree with the camp about 42069 being the set of the year, and I like the B Model. For the past 5 years, I've always bought 2 copies of each flagship to make the A and B models at the same time. But this year, I'll get a second 42069 instead. I don't see any value in building that 42070 B model. I mean the most critical part of that set is the 6 enormous tyres, and they could not be bothered to use all 6? Even a trailer would have been a start. I wonder why no servo motor for steering on 42070? Surely this would enhance playability? The fire truck is ok, and I like the B model as well. I think this year is a tad disappointing and Lego unless they blow our minds with a secret 40th set. I think they have missed a trick.
  18. So here is what was in the gody bag from Smyths this morning, not sure if this was the same in every bag, but here is what was on offer for free. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/pdlh/2017/img_1372.jpg
  19. I'd be amazed if Lego have not kept the injection molds just in case the licence returns to them! These Duplo Thomas sets kind of came in 2 waves, the first wave in 2005 inlcuded track with each set. But the later 2008/2009 sets, most of them were not including track, which I see as a strange decision, as without track, it's not a train it's a car to a child.
  20. Lets hope not eh! otherwise I won't be able to report back on what the give away is!
  21. This weekend Smyths Toys in UK and NI are giving away a free goody bag to celebrate their Birthday. Only small requirement is you need to take a child. Luckily mine is now 8 days old and I hope this will entitled a goody bag for his dad! Only on Saturday 27th May, from 9am - 2pm. Some might be interested. Apparently you get Lego, Playdoh and my little pony. Lets hope for a Polybag! I really want the small City tractor with plough - Set 30353. I'll report back with what we get! More infö here: https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/in-store-events
  22. Odd bit was Lego's logic why they half priced the HE on shop at home? obvioulsy selling off the stock would have made sense, had they had a new Creator Expert train coming along to replace it. But to sell it off cheap, to clear the line just seems a little odd to me. Unless something got canned at the last minute?
  23. To be honest, since I purchasedmy set at Christmas, the average ebay price has dropped by £80 - £100 I'd buy the set, i'm now considering a second one to keep as MISB
  24. I totally don't understand minecraft. this to me is like pokemon. I'm sure some will love it, quite a parts selection.
