  1. Is your avatar a stick in the mud? ;) In all seriousness, I'm sure it's both.
  2. I'm not opposed to people making up new factions and what not - just that the "backbone" of such an endeavour should be pre-existing themes. That may be just my opinion, but I don't see any reason why a sci-fi one needs to mirror exactly how the GoH is done.
  3. I personally don't see the problem with using existing themes. Pick a planet (or group of planets) for each "empire" - Galactic Federation (Classic Space, Futuron, Space Police - anyone with the little planet logo), Blacktron Empire, M-Tron Corporation, etc. I would be more interested in this, to be quite honest.
  4. Oh, I agree with that. Still, the parts are out there... as you say, as long as one is patient, it can be done. Regarding the molding pip... I have noticed that most of the 1x2 blue CS logo bricks seem to have the pip on the stud, not the side (most, but not all... and it may only be "most" in my own collection, after all). ALL of my 918, 924 and 928 printed 1x4 bricks have the pip on the stud, not the side, though. Obviously the late '70s and early '80s was a transition period... still, when I got my old mixed Lego pieces from my parents last year, nearly all my bricks had the molding pip on the side, so this is the way I'm restoring old sets... at least up until '86 or so. Speaking of which, I recently obtained a 928 Galaxy Explorer in stunningly beautiful condition... only thing is all the large grey engine cones have the axle hole. Bricklink lists this as "alternate" pieces; does that mean certain sets (presumably ones produced later on) had them originally as well? It would be great if we had some general spans of time in which sets and pieces remained in production and/or circulation... If only Lego Historian was more of a Classic Space/'80s fan! They do have a real charm to them, eh?
  5. I hope this goes back in stock soon. I think I'd like to get one for my nephew's birthday coming up... A mix of CS minifigs in old colours (white, red, yellow, blue or black) and possibly new (dark blue, green, orange, etc.) would be just superb. Maybe include a little radar station thing, too. :)
  6. If Benny's ssS LL929 ends up as the top selling set from The LEGO Movie... and the Exo Suit ends up being the top selling set from CUUSOO (or whatever it's called now)... Well, wouldn't that be something for TLG to think about. :)
  7. I might try this method, but after looking at my 80% built/stickered 929, I'm not sure I need to. I placed them pretty well, with no visible bubbles. I've got lots of experience with clear stickers, I guess, since I'm a GI Joe toy collector, too. :) I use tweezers to apply the sticker very carefully (I've got pretty steady hands), then smooth out the bubbles with the back of my fingernail, or sometimes a guitar pick - anything that's kind of hard but soft at the same time, so it won't tear the sticker. EDIT: nvm, wet method is way better!
  8. Argh, wish I would have read about this earlier. What's the wet application method?
  9. I'm not risking it. I already bought mine. I will probably buy at least one more when/if it does go on sale, though. Lots of nice spacey parts in that set, plus I could probably sell off Benny and the other figs. :)
  10. Bigger pics, please. Looks great, but I want to see details.
  11. Well, as to your first point, I did say "almost identical", with a specific example being the colour. Fair enough regarding your second. All that happened during my "dark age" so I was not aware of how unsuccessful they were. Still, you never know... maybe a S@H exclusive would be a better way to release such things. There might be more demand for a reissued Classic Space set what with Benny being so popular, but even so, the 928 wasn't featured all that prominently in the film (maybe the 493/926 is the more likely candidate?).
  12. Well, they have reissued classic sets in the past (e.g. Black Seas Barracuda, Black Falcon Fortress). I think a Galaxy Explorer almost identical to the original release (the most significant change being the shade of grey, obviously) is certainly within the realm of possibility, given its status as one of Lego's "classic" sets. Other CS sets, not so much. But overall, I would agree with you that the 929 is indicative of what we could expect with a "Neo Classic Space" line. And I would be just fine with that. If only... :)
  13. Aw, man, I'm a sucker for anything relating to Classic Space. Might have to get a few of these now. Hopefully they look better in person!
  14. I disagree with those who think a reissued/updated 928 won't fly with today's audiences, but I will say that building Benny's 929 (why aren't we calling it that?) is a very pleasing experience. And it's got some darn nice lines, too - a real beaut. You have to see it in person, though, I think. The ONLY things I can think of that would make this a perfect set would be an extra blue helmet and torso to make a "normal" blue spaceman fig, and/or one in a different colour (a new colour, like dark blue, green or orange would have been superb!). I could have done without Emmet in disguise, or Lucy. I don't even recall her wearing that outfit in the movie... I would have loved to see some alternate build pics, too. If Lego ever decides to reissue this in a Classic Space style box, I will be buying this set again! :) When you get right down to it, I can see 1974's assessment of the 929 "not fitting in" with Classic Space, say, if you put the 928 and 929 side by side. But put the 929 next to the 928, the Star Fleet Voyager, the Galaxy Commander, the Cosmic Fleet Voyager and the Sonar Transmitting Cruiser, I think it'd fit in pretty well.
  15. Dino Tracker, eh? First thing I thought of was Zombie Hunter when I saw her. Kind of a female Daryl Dixon vibe... I figured the syringe was some kind of antidote. :)
  16. Didn't Will Farrell's character call the ship a mess or something? It's supposed to look a bit crazy. I can see some CS fans feeling a bit put off by that aspect, bit I think it still works. Like I said before, quite a few CS sets were pretty crazy, too...
  17. Can someone confirm this for me? I thought I read somewhere about a June 1st street date... I don't want to waste my time looking in case it hasn't already shown up in Canadian TRUs... Yeah, I agree. I mean, I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea. It certainly isn't as elegant as the 928, 924 or 918... But CS didn't end there, after all. There is room for a LOT more different styles in Classic Space. Considering the diversity seen in models like the Galaxy Commander, Sonar Transmitting Cruiser, 1968 "Unknown" and others, not to mention some of the bases and land vehicles (Robot Command Center, anyone?), I'd say there is definitely a place for this in the fleet.
  18. Benny's SSS and the Ecto-1 for me. Classic Space Cuusoo Mech too, if it's out this year. I MIGHT get the Simpsons house this year too... But what I really want to do is track down a Futuron Monorail! :)
  19. Thanks for the review, I really like this set... Not sure if I will pick it up...Benny's SSS and the Dropship will be first. :)
  20. This has only showed up in US TRUs and Lego stores so far, correct? Definitely going to be an instant purchase when I see it... Might get another or more if they go on sale, though. :)
  21. I am not much of a Superheroes buyer, but this might be a purchase... The sentinel is alright, but I love the Byrne era costumes. Will probably wait for a sale, though, at that price.
  22. Thanks so much for the review, Rufus! You are the MAN, when it comes to Classic Space at least. :) Disappointed to see no sign of alternate old-school CS builds, either on the packaging or in the instructions. :( Was really hoping for that... I agree that it would have been nice for at least one other spaceman. Still, I'll buy at least one. Possibly two. Possibly more, really. Probably at least two.
  23. Ehhhhhh... Well, it's nice that you can find the silver lining and all, but... :)
