Cool little design. Looks like something they'd use in wolf packs tactics to swarm and overrun their target! Maybe needs a mothership? :)
-
Thanks! I wonder if this might see a wider release after the movie, since the blue spaceman is featured in it... I like these, just not enough to order online and pay shipping and all that...
-
Lol, sorry man. I was going to say thanks, actually, since ever since seeing this post, I've been on the lookout. No luck so far. But I do have a newborn and two-year old, so I've got an excuse I guess. For not posting, I mean. :)

Reminds me of an Episode 2 speeder. Nice little design!

Could they maybe just release an official instruction booklet for the firehouse, maybe? Assuming it's entirely out of the question as a set, I mean. Sure, we could all make our own, but there's something to be said for "official", IMO.

This is surprising to me. What about Tokyo? Is Lego not big enough in Japan, land of cool collectible toys??? What about Dubai? (Technically part of Asia, though I'm sure most people would say "Middle East".)

This is a very good point. -

It's still on, isn't it? Come on, it's achieved Star Wars/Mickey Mouse-type levels of cultural impact and awareness. It's a true household name brand. -
^ that would be great! Incorporate 'em all! I kind of feel like CS, Futuron, Space Police and to a somewhat lesser extent Ice Planet and the 'trons it nicely together anyway.
-
Not to mention, they don't HAVE to be blocky. Honestly, if Galaxy Squad had simply been the same sets, but in blue, grey and trans-yellow with CS minifigs and logos, I would have been all over it. And I'm not too worried about the potential for "terrible designs" - why should Lego try anything, if that was a concern?

I "grew out of it" at one point, like nearly everyone else, but I actually had a second dark age as well. Funny enough, Star Wars brought me back the first time - but after a while, I got burned out on it all, what with "new and improved" sets coming out, etc. Collecting anything SW seems to have that effect... Except the vintage stuff, because you know there's an end in sight. Part of the reason I'm sticking to old sets now, though I'd like to do some MOCing when I get more free time... But anyway, if you really love it, you'll be back!
-
... which would be fine with me. Futuron is almost a "revisited" Classic Space, anyway. :)
-
This was a theme I found REALLY interesting... I was in my "second dark age" so I didn't buy any of the sets, but I was tempted! I think it's a bit too recent for a revival, though... I have a feeling "1980-something Space Guy" is going to strike a chord with us... I could see an influx of new collectors coming in soon, if the movie's a hit (and I think it will be).

Nah... that CMF figure wasn't REALLY a Classic Space Astronaut, though I would have no problem integrating him into my CS collection. I was talking classic design. What with all the alien talk, though... I really wouldn't mind an alien CS minifig, either... It would probably change the way I look at the whole CS "universe" from one that was pre-alien contact to something more akin to Star Trek, but that's cool. :)

These days, we have to take "success" in the context that Star Wars is really Lego's main "space" line and will be for the foreseeable future. As for me, I got burned out on that a few years back - so much so that it started a second "dark age"! Seems to happen with anything SW though... Only SW stuff I can handle collecting are the vintage Kenner figs, since I know there's an end... But I digress. Maybe Galaxy Squad wasn't the hit that SW is, but as long as space is profitable I guess it's a success, right? As much as I'd love to see a revival of Classic Space, I'd honestly be thrilled just to see a CS Spaceman in a different colour in the CMF series. That'd be enough. :)

An, good thread before my time! Well, I say Classic Space all the way. I freely admit I'm biased - its what I grew up with, after all. But really, why not? Retro is in, baby!

Heh, I go so far as to ensure mold markings UNDERNEATH face the same direction in the case of tiles, etc. I know it's a bit f'ed up, but, well... whatever. :) As for stickers, I'm pretty meticulous about them as well. I make sure the surface is clean and usually use tweezers to help with placement.

Well, I for one love reading your posts! So much history to learn - your work has been a real benefit to the community, especially to a guy like me, who's admittedly more of the collector type. :) I will be purchasing your book as soon as I get just a little bit of money in my Paypal account - been buying a lot on Bricklink, lately. Just kind of getting back into the hobby after my "second" Dark Age. :)

I know this is a bit of a necropost, but I had to say something - it's nice to know I'm not alone in this! I always try to have the Lego logos face the same way, whenever possible at least. As for the molding pips in vintage sets, I kind of like having them visible, so I know they're original parts. :)

Restoring vintage sets, question regarding replacing bricks.
DPrime replied to naf's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Slowly getting the hang of figuring out which molds go where... I recently got a hold of my old original Lego collection - mainly Classic Space. It's all mixed up, but it's helped me figure out a few things. (Plus, I think I can complete at least one or two of my original sets!!!) Anyway, I do know that my sets dated from about '79 (Beta-1 Command Base) and even earlier (some of the pre-minifig people sets) to about '84 or '85... All the 1x2 bricks have the molding mark on the side, not the top. So I guess I've got some replacing to do... I had obtained a vintage Intergalactic Command Base (6971) a while back and all the 1x2s had the mold mark on the stud. I suppose they could have been replacements but they looked and felt vintage so that seems to coincide with Historian's statement above. However, I had one of these sets as a kid too, and there isn't a 1x2 brick to be found with the mold mark on the top - they're all on the side. Mind you, I got mine in Canada, whereas this one I recently obtained was from Europe (the Netherlands, to be specific) - I traded a GI Joe figure for it along with a Walking Astro Grappler and Galaxy Commander. :) Anyway, just some food for thought, I guess, but I do have a couple of questions (probably for Lego Historian specifically, but anyone really, if they know the answers): 1. I got an old Alpha-1 Rocket Base a few months back - the long 4x12 blue plate was broken, but had the "pat pending" mark on the underside. Was this correct for its time? I was told (when getting a replacement piece) that it was an earlier piece, and that sets that late wouldn't have had that, typically. 2. I've noticed some (very minor) mold variations with the 1x4 trans-yellow bricks - any advice on which are the earlier versions? 3. The "vintage squeak" old Lego pieces make when attaching them to other pieces - were they always like that? I guess my question is, is that a result of age, or design? If design, around when did that stop? -
AWESOME. As a father of a two year old, Sesame Street is enjoying quite the renaissance lately. Love seeing this. Slimey would be an easy addition, I think... This MOC begs the question - why no Sesame Street/Muppets Lego sets???
-
Really cool idea and ice execution - very sleek.:)
-
Yikes, not a way I'd want to die. Great MOC, though!

Pleygo: Netflix styled Lego Rental?
DPrime replied to Legononymous's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Not an idea I'd invest my life savings in, that's for sure. I really can't see it being very successful. The prices (in order to get good sets, at least) are high enough that most parents would just end up buying sets anyway, and where's the fun in "renting" Lego? Just seems weird to me. I would have loved to see this idea go up on Dragon's Den and see the presentation/reactions, though. -
Well, the Simpsons is definitely a pop culture icon so I think it's totally appropriate! Better to see this (along the lines of Star Wars and Marvel/DC superheroes) than some flop of a license like the Lone Ranger. I think there's a lot of potential here - and not an "action theme", so what? It's basically a licensed, cartoon-version Town series, which has been a Lego mainstay since, what, the beginning? :) If I were to guess... some semi-big set (Evergreen Terrace house?), a medium-sized one (Quik-e-Mart?), a smallish set (the family car) and a couple $10-12 figure sets with small scene (any number of things). If it's a hit, maybe we might see large sets like Bart's school, etc. But I think this is the best we can hope for at the moment.
