AG - Introduction and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
That was my original intent, joining AG. heheh! Can't wait to have you on the board! When Pombe gets there Dr. Long might lose her shit. Looking at it, I believe he mentioned me and SpacerSteve because we're all 3rd branch execs atm. ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
This badboy is gorgeous! Massive and very well shaped! Great job! Yup! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

AG - Introduction and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
I kid you not, I have seriously thought about something like this. And, as always, Dr. Long is available to serve in an antagonistic capacity towards other corporations. Or peaceful. Just saying antagonistic because she's not that personable and very openly pro-octan. Send me a PM if you want to colab. (She doesn't take failure lightly, though, so keep that in mind if you intend to use her.) ~Insectoid Aristocrat -

Who had a better colour-scheme? Blacktron 1 or Blacktron II?
Dannylonglegs replied to Dannylonglegs's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Awesome! Glad to see this inspired such conversation! I've built two Blacktron spaceships in the past. Both small, and, arguably, not that good. one was B1 and the other was B2 coloured, so I go both ways in regards to preference. The B1 colour scheme is very agressive, which is a great choice for an antagonistic force. All that yellow and black reminds me of a hornet or other "animals to run away from". That said, I really don't like the Trans red blasters/lights. Especially on the Blacktron "communications interception base". I just don't feel like they mesh with the otherwise awesome two-toned scheme. Red and yellow are not good together in large amounts, IMO. That is something that is very mush fixed in Blacktron 2, with the introduction of trans-neon green, one of my favorite colours for space! However, I feel like they overdo it with the white, diluting the menacing blacktron black colourscheme. Both have their pros and their cons to me, which is why I can't quite make up my mind as to which I prefer. Overall I love both themes! They serve as excellent villains for Lego space, and both have an awesome "Lazer tag" vibe to me that makes me feel a bit nostalgic, even though I was not alive when they first came out. (I still have quite a few of both figures and pieces) I know how you feel in regards to opinions with few MoCs. These guidelines sound excellent! I agree with your thoughts in regards to grey. One if the best aspects of both blacktron is their starkness. Black and yellow or black and white, no colours in between to muddle the effect. Trans red works well for weapons, I agree. I wonder what the colour scheme of a hypothetical 3rd reiteration of Blacktron would look like. I don't think yellow and trans neon green look good together though, so I certainly would not mix those. One or the other.... at least on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis. Awesome! Glad to hear this from an expert! I love the tran-neon-green, and agree that it goes shockingly well with bright white! I threw the lime question in there because I see that a lot in neo-Blacktron 2 mocs, and I don't necessarily think it's a bad addition. It's certainly present on the Blacktron 2 logo. Ooh! Merchandise! I agree entirely with you on the figures. The B2 figures look far less intimidating or interesting that B1 figures! B1 figures are the absolute best, and I'm sure everyone here agrees with me! I also agree with the sets comment to an extent. The pod ships were way cool! Awesome Moc! Love how you captured the feel of the theme! The black cockpit is nice! Hah! I've never thought about it like that! I always look at the colour of minifigures as a kind of neutral element, not to conflict with stuff around them. ~ Insectoid Aristocrat- 21 replies

I did exactly the same! I'm pretty excited about this new wave! I had hoped the line would continue, and I'm really glad it's continuing in this direction. (The feminist inside me is super happy that there's an action fantasy theme directed primarily towards young girls. Shame my young(ish) sister always spurns my attempts to buy her Lego. ) can't wait to see all those dragons! I hope they're brick built like the Ninjago Dragons are nowadays. They've really gotten good at designing dragons from that theme, with Wu's new dragon being a step above the rest. I would be disappointed if they made new molds for them... but I could like them if they turn out interesting looking. I am, as always, hopeful that this new line will come with a myriad of fun-coloured foliage pieces like we've seen in the first wave! Yes please, lavender plants! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I don't know it it's been asked, but I thought it'd be interesting to see what the Sci-fi community here thought of the different colour schemes from Blacktron I and Blacktron II. Which generation of the faction had a superior colour scheme? Do you prefer Blacktron 1's wasp-y colour palate of Black and yellow, in juxtaposition to trans-yellow "glass" and trans-red blasters or lights? Or do you prefer Blacktron Next Generation's palate of White, Black, and the spaced-out trans neon green for glass and blasters? Furthermore, what are your thoughts in regards to the addition of lime green in neo-blacktron Mocs? Yay or nay? I'm planning on doing something with Blacktron in the near future, and I was curious to see what others thought of the colour palates. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Dr. Long is taking the OT-Cog 1 planetside to explore the new worlds, and gather specimens for further research!... and maybe to pick up an escaped test subject... Category A build updated with better pictures. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Better pictures! If you have advice for how to make my Pictures even better, or would like to see a specific angle, or portion of the ship, please ask!~ ~Insectoid Aristocrat

What about Dragonslayer cruelty? Is it Ironic that the night before I died, I was marveling at the absolute beauty of the figurehead? That's an excellent rendition of the old viking dragon-heads! Perfect! ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
The OT Cog 1 is Dr. Long's personal shuttle.... well, it's not hers, technically. The ship is one of many Cog model shuttlecraft used by Octan personnel for extra-orbital transportation needs. The crew is typically 2 to 3, a pilot, the optional co-pilot, and the passenger, as is the case with Cog 1. Some have been modified to decrease cargo space in favor of more seats. Dr. Long took a liking to the Cog 1 very early on in her employment at Octan, and nowadays no one dares reserve its use for fear of irritating Dr. Long... a mistake that could make any Axle worker's life miserable. Dr. Long frequently uses the ship to shuttle herself and her Science drones to and from the Axle. It can hold up to 6 Sc106 specimen acquisition drones. The "Head" is so snotty I built it upside down. It's very sturdy. Rear wheels fold out. Front wheels need to be put on manually. Bay door allows minifigures to climb in with very little space. Watch your heads! Several nights of little sleep building this, and one final all nighter. I'm exhausted, but she's done. Anyone know how to photograph big ships like this well? ~Insectoid Aristocrat

It very well could be... Dr. Long never specified what the Dummy was made of. Sorry I didn't use the electricity piece I said I would. I lost it just before shooting. It was my only one... gone forever... so sad... ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Planet: Illustria Tags: Science Note: now may be as good a time as any to introduce Dr. Long's Lietmotif: Don't mind the cartoon character... "Log date 394, this is Dr. Danielle Long, recording from testing facility G+ L4D05 on the Axle over F04. Corporate has not yet sanctioned a field test of the Chekhov's Gauntlet, so today we will be performing another controlled test of teh Chekhov's Gauntlet prototype. Unfortunately many of the other other testing facilities capable of hosting this test are in use, so we have to use room G+ L4D05, which was damaged during the testing of the "Aperture Gun" which created a hole in the floor that nearly breached the hull. Fortunately the mishap ended up testing the durability of the Axle's inner shield. She endured marvelously. Test subject 24601 will be arriving shortly. He is a volunteer from Octan's galaxy-famous "work to reduce your prison sentence and learn valuable life-skills" program. Ah, the virtues of Octan's private prison system are too many to list. The subject has attempted to escape several times, but lately he's been on good behavior. Also he was our only choice. He will be arriving momentarily now. Dr. Long signing off in preparation for the experiment." "Ah... Here he comes now. Any potentially static-generating materials, or electricity conducting materials have been removed. That is a hideous plastic belt he is wearing. certainly not regulation." "OK, test subject 24601, today you will be testing the functionality of Octan's newest prototype weapon on the dummy over there. This is called "Chekhov's Gauntlet." Named after it's original designer, one of Octan's most brilliant defense specialists, Dr. Molotov Chekhov, who tragically died of spontaneous combustion before he could finish his final project: this. It is a completely organic glove, meant to resemble a typical vinyl glove, but with a very special property. This glove is capable of generating a massive burst of electricity due to a patented membrane potential generation process. All it needs is to be refreshed in a bath of a patented blend of electrolytes and sugars after extensive use. I perfected it after the good doctor's demise, and now it is in its final stages of testing. Once we have determined it works properly in a variety of environments, it will be mass produced and given to Octan's well trained security force, and those within the Corporation who wish to purchase it." "Umm... Hi." "OK, put this on and proceed to the testing chamber." "Ok. Once you are prepared, please raise your gloved hand. To activate the electricity firing function, please press your thumb to your pinky finger. Once you have done so, flick your middle finger at the target dummy. This will cause an electric arc to fire from your finger and hit the closest object to its trajectory. The arc will last only briefly, but would be lethal to a human. Are you ready to begin? Press A on the console beside you to talk. Not very talkative I see. Nod your head please, when you are ready to begin. Or jump, or something. Any signal will do." Worker: "Any particular reason we chose this room? The one next door was not in use. It doesn't have faulty electricity or a huge gash in the floor..." "I have my reasons. Now silence, I believe he just jumped slightly." "Excellent work! You really knocked that dummy out! Now we're going to lower the room temperature by 20 degrees to begin the "climate differentiation" portion of testing." "I don't think so." "WhAT?" "Oh, sorry... forgot to press A. I said: "I don't think so. I've been a prisoner of Octan for too long! All I did was steal a loaf of bread and kill the bread baker! And now you're telling me I've got Octan's new murder-tool on my hands? That's an opportunity I'm not going to pass up!" "Activate Membrane Potential Neutralizer." *Fzzzzt* "It's not working! Damnit! I knew we should have gone next door!" "Hosta la vista baby! I'm free!" "It works on door controls too! Add that to your report! Hahaha!" "It's been real, but I'm afraid our fun is up! Thanks for the glove, Miss whoever-you-are!" _________________________________________________________________________________________ Later. "This is Dr. Danielle Long. Due to recent concerns focused on the core, Corporate denied my field test request, but they accepted my request for a Spec-Ops training mission featuring novel variables... I needed the escape to appear real to the subject, so I did not inform my lab assistant of the true plan. He was certainly frightened by the prisoner's "escape." Nothing a brief session of corporate mandated counseling cannot fix up. Axle corridors G+ L4D01 through L4D09 were closed-off. Personnel in the immediate vicinity were informed of a possible "event," and were told to "Stay down if you go down, and wait for whatever event may occur to subside, and then immediately report the event." Escape Pod 20072011 has now been reported missing. Everything is going according to plan. There's always more than one way to skin a cat--trust me, I received an 100% before extra-credit in my college Anat&Phys course. I will get my field test, and Corporate will get their Spec-Ops training exercise. All is good and efficient aboard the O.C.S. Axle. Dr. Long Signing off." <<<<CONTINUED HERE>>>> _____________________________ Can you tell I like the Portal series? I was inspired to finally do a lab scene by Big Sal's awesome Labs every week! to contrast his though, everything went according to plan! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

This is beautiful! I mean beautiful! I was just talking about what I think the aesthetics of the corporations should be, and let me tell you, this fits exactly with what I think Kawashita builds should look like! Spot on! It's smooth and Japanese feeling! I'd say it looks vaguely like it was taking inspiration from the Tau, the Trade Federation, and/or the Covenant, and that's exactly what I like seeing from Kawashita! The way you created the shape is just stupendous! This is my favorite build from you (build, your stories are on an entirely different level.), and it's also a standout AG build to me. ~Insectoid Aristocrat
