The answer is yes! You may either be a member of a corporation, or an unaffiliated "Alien". Corporate affiliated players may make Alien builds as well. If you want to switch to an Alien, you should tell Bob, but it can be done. Simply remove yourself from your corporation chat, and post your new character! ~Insectoid Aristocrat
