Generic Contest Discussion
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd possibly be up for that Jim ... but who would determine your skill level though ? to rank you ? I know I had a decent finishing position in the TRIPLE contest but I wouldn't put myself in the same league as a lot of the MOCers here -
I was going to enter this and try and build an Autogyro/Gyrocopter but unfortunately I'm going to be living away from home for the next 6 weeks during the week and then I'm moving across the country to a new job so I think unfortunately that project will be put on hold ... even if I recently purchased 9396 for the main rotor blades for this and then 8026 and 42025 just because ! I did start to put something together on LDD but I couldn't find the suspension arm part (5m with ball cup) from 8297 in LDD so I came unstuck ! Also I hit a brick wall with how to do a shaft that can transmit rotation but also extend where both ends are linked via 90degree gears. So most of the Technic is all packed away in boxes ready for the move ... but I might try and get in a quick (and small) model if I have some spare time this Saturday and Sunday night !

Concept Car Hubless Wheels
Seasider replied to raus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
looks great but if you look at the video you can see the big issue with hubless wheels ... you need the friction between the tyre/wheel and the drive system to be larger than that between the tyres and the ground ... if you look the front right wheel at one point just slides rather than rolls if you switched to a smooth lego tyre (like the unimog) you might get better traction as to why .... because they look cool on a concept car having no wheel centres ... been used in lots of sci fi too ...completely useless in reality tho -
Enter as many competitions and fun events as possible. Although Jan/Feb Air is unlikely for me as im going to be working away from home for a while and then moving a big distance. Across the country to a new. Job around march time. but hopefully i can get the collection to hand at some point especially as i recently bought 2 helicopters (8068 & 9396) and would use bits of them for my air build

Congrats to lipko, doc and piterx Dead chuffed with my 5th place finish for my first eurobricks technic competition :)

Alasdair - you got a vote from me ... I just loved your simplicity, it met the rules perfectly and each item was instantly recognisable.

its not a purchasable pdf file for download ? That's a shame ... hmmm I can understand as it means people can't share the instructions and so lose revenue but missing a trick if you cant print it our download a pdf in my opinion

Looks pretty cool ... Could Do with something to partially cover the bonnet in my opinion but the back looks fantastic Why does everything need to be powered ? Or am I just old school ? -

Theme Month for Technic
Seasider replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Jim - yes love the idea of putting up a combined MOC thread for whatever the topic is As to ideas... JanuAIRy FebruAIRy- aircraft sound good C model (you are only allowed to use parts from a chosen set, in my mind a small/medium new set ? H1 2014 release?... someone would need to post the parts list) I would allow 1 perhaps 2 months for each topic -
Won the Raffle and my Technic Sledge is the pic too :sweet: So who are the minifigures in set 1? Would consider swapping for the Turtles or the Marvel/DC figures if anyone wants to ... PM me
-
surely people will work out if they click on an image and get send to another one that its the wrong one, especially as the images in the vote thread are taken from the entry thread it then doesn't take too much intelligence to find the right post

Theme Month for Technic
Seasider replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like the idea of JanAIRy ... and also Supercar Spring (which I guess would start in March ?) I'd join in both of these Also the Cargo Plane comes out in January, so the 'air' theme would work because of that too -
You actually wanted to ask physicists too and not just engineers (I'm the latter) Something should be theoretically possible based on the other comments you've had so far. The issues you'll have for maintaining forward motion are the 'dead zones' between magnets ... Or just make sure the 'trucks' magnet can only ever "see" one magnet. Then there's the issue of friction of the truck on the track .... And not forgetting our other friend drag There should be lots of stuff on the internet about how things like maglevs work to give you ideas Good luck !

[MOC] Far Cry 3 buggy
Seasider replied to Petter's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
ooooooh I love the buggy Do you have an LDD model of it as I'd love to build a copy ? -
Do you think some of the models are over the 500 part limit then ? Mine took a lot of effort to get down to the limit ... thankfully LDD was my friend !

I'd say a clean thread for voting with a nice list of the entries with a single image from each entry in the list so you can see what it looks like with then a link to the post in the entry thread
