  1. Dec - Jan is always an issue for me, and I assume for others too. We’re normally away for at least a week, often 2 seeing family over the Christmas and new year period.
  2. Wow, such a great B model. I’m a big Bat fan and the Burton batmobile is definitely my favourite/era.
  3. @nico71 yes I watched your snow runner video 😎 and I’m waiting for the bodywork one to see how you tackle it. Seeing what you’ve written above reassures me that I’m working along the right lines for the bodywork. Expect a potential update from me here in a month or so … told you all this would be a slow burn !
  4. So yes it’s been a long time since I’ve done an update on here, personally I blame @Jim for TC22, but also life and the real Eunos I have that currently has no interior. Only a minor update but with a problem that I’m not sure how to solve. So I watched a YouTube video from @nico71 and from that I transferred the blueprint onto my work pc so I could do this. The wheels and tyres really match well, the wheel to rim ratio looks good and amazingly they’re also about the right width for what I want. so you’ll see I’ve built a basic frame to get the wheelbase and here is my next problem. I get a half stud in my wheelbase. So do I keep it? Or shorten or lengthen the wheelbase by half a stud? I’m going to leave designing the chassis and what goes on it till the end, if it’ll just naturally evolve. But first some bodywork, but I’m unsure where to start. I think my plan is to rough something out with flat panels and liftarms to enable me to see it’s size in my hands. Then pick an area of the car and refine it and work like that. Or are there better suggestions from the seasoned Supercar creators ? I already know the headlight assembly will have to be System built to get a nice thin headlamp cover, the light and the mechanism all done. who knows when the next update is ? Holidays and putting the interior back in the real MX-5 come first.
  5. The purple helmet wasn’t cheap either
  6. Let us know what your thoughts are Jim and then me or Thirdwigg can provide the excel sheet and maintain it for the foreseeable future
  7. @brickless_kiwi what I think he meant was that it was an easy one to enter. It didn’t require complex mechanisms, just steering and perhaps a fake engine and suspension. No motors or pneumatics. And perhaps most importantly it didn’t mean you needed a huge collection of parts to build a model with, so was pretty much open to lots of people even with a basic Technic collection.
  8. So this is a little project me and @Thirdwigg have been working on for the past week, the history of TC competitions. We’ve created an Excel spreadsheet to record the outcome of all the competitions to date. So capturing all 22 competitions to date and EVERYONE with a valid entry we get this monster ! If you look at it normal scale you’ll see this … We decided to record the contest name, when it took place, it’s main criteria, how the voting was conducted. For each competition we then recorded the positions of everyone with a valid entry from the Results threads. If a competition had multiple rounds of voting (only a handful) then we tried to record both rounds, for the second round those who didn’t make it had their first round score carried over (in a similar manner to how F1 does qualifying). From this we then created stats of number of entries per competition and also where people finished. I also gave each person a “score” and a “ranking” based off that score. You get a point for an entry, 100 for a bronze, 10000 for a silver and 1000000 for a gold, to give a similar scoring system to the olympics and to allow for 99 competitions! I may try a different weighting scheme at a later date to see how it affects things. So here are some stats and some are interesting … A large majority have only ever entered 1 competition. Although a lot of us AFOLs talk about wanting large complex multi function Technic models our most popular competition was the Small Car TC18 where we had 62 entrants. I’ve entered the most … and actually I started more as I can remember pulling out of at least 2 competitions as my entry wasn’t progressing as I’d hoped. Our Top 3 are all people who only entered a very small number of competitions. And we have 3 people who have collected all 3 medals. We’ve decided we’ll continue collecting these stats as we get more TC competitions, but is there anything you’d like to know ? Seasider & Thirdwigg
  9. I’m also thinking the fact they were both wearing Razor Crest T-shirts means that’s the next UCS
  10. Just seen it on Lego con and it’s a thing of beauty. Like the way they showed you can build modern versions of all 3 original ships. I hope they include all as instructions or they’ve missed a trick. Definitely a day 1 purchase!
  11. @Jim I’m trying to capture who’s entered what and their result. So for tc18 if I only have the round 2 results I only have 10 entrants whereas I know it was 60+. For the recent studless I’ve used the final top 4 from the jury vote combined with the overall scoring from the public vote. So a bit like how f1 does it’s qualifying. If you don’t have it to hand don’t worry I can recreate it. Is there any output you’d like to see ?
  12. @Jim and @Milan - me and @Thirdwigg are working on an Excel sheet to capture all the TC competition results and provide some analysis. I’m missing a little bit of data and need your help, do the round 1 results for the small car competition (tc18) exist anywhere ? I can only find the results from round 2 which was the voting for the top 10. If you don’t I can recreate from the round 1 voting which I see still exists. also are there any analysis you would like to see from this ? So far we’re capturing … for each competition … competition name (and number), date, high level requirement eg bounding box, number of valid entries for each person who’s entered a competition … name, number of times they’ve entered, how many 1st 2nd 3rd, a “score” based off this (similar method to Olympic medals) and a “ranking” based off the “score” from this we’ve captured so far … Number of competitions ave number of entries per competition number of people who’ve only entered 1 competition the top 3 from the “rankings” the person who’s entered the most competitions it would be good to capture something about the number of people who voted or perhaps the scoring method but the first may be a bit hard to capture
  13. @Jim I’ve started to pull something together in excel for you … give me a few days :)
  14. Am overall table of who finished where as a posted thread along with all the competition names and brief description would be good
  15. Congrats to the winners, congrats to @Thirdwigg for collecting all 3 medals, congrats to all those that entered it was great to see so many diverse entries and most importantly thanks to @Jim and @Milan for running another great competition. I’m dead chuffed I finished 9th 😀 I didn’t think I’d finish that high
  16. I think the biggest issue I have with this is to me it just looks too messy and off scale for a licensed set. I appreciate that it’s got lots of functions that us AFOLs love but if it had less exterior colour vomit and messy little panels, wasn’t representing a real copter but had the same functions I’m sure we’d be raving about it. oh and I’m a fan of the 1:8 cars and the empty “boxes” like the McLaren F1. I think there is a place in the lineup for both types of sets
  17. I’m a big fan of 9396 but this just isn’t doing anything for me. The overall colour scheme and external parts look messy (although I do like the minifigure seat and the barrel being used for the engines). Also the proportions just seem weird, I haven’t looked at the real thing but the rotor head (as I’d call it) just looks massive in comparison to the rest.
  18. 9 : 10 1 : 6 24 : 4 28 : 3 27 : 2 25 : 1 Well done for all those who entered. Great to see so many entries and so varied too. Was tough choosing 6.
  19. Thanks @LvdH so the answer is it’s all approximate then. I wanted to use the Porsche as a bit of a guide for comparing against my own “1:8” project
  20. Bit of a random question but I’m hoping someone will know. Do we know what the actual scale of the Porsche is? I know it’s quoted as 1:8 but I’m also aware that this could mean 1:7.8 or 1:8.4 as examples.
  21. @Jim and @Milan when is the voting topic going to go live ? And also can you add it to the front page ?
  22. So excited about this I’ll have to dust off my 928 version ready to sit along side it
  23. Well I did create this for those … But if I was to create one for Classic Space I’d only use the White and Red original minifigures
  24. I know quite a lot of people (from work at a well known car company) who are casual AFOLs and their collection is made up of Creator cars and Technic UCS cars. So these are their only Technic builds
  25. Saw the official post on Facebook, then went onto Lego website and added it to my wish list. Then came here and jumped back to YouTube to watch Racing Bricks video. I’m a fan of the series and I have to say this doesn’t disappoint in terms of looks and complexity of connections. It baffles me how people work out these connections for bodywork! I like the use of the BMW shocks and good to see some more panels that add to the range. Sad to see some instruction errors with the gearbox and diffuser. But they don’t detract for me. I like the special book but not sure if I need it in my life, so may not rush to but this.
