The chamber is a sub–forum where we discuss issues with members. Sometimes they end up banned after that discussion but most of the time they are re–instated to the site. We use a sub–forum as opposed to PM so that the entire staff can have oversight on how the member is being treated and so the member has a break from interacting with other members. The "chamber" is named so since when you're in the group "Taking a Break" it is the only forum you can see. You can still see the whole site if you log out and view it as a guest but you can't post anywhere else. We changed the name after people complained about the tag "Bad Kids" which only gave members access to the "Torture Chamber". That's a little too PC–Police in my opinion but there you have it. We find it works really well and it's much better than straight out banning members with no discussion or no second opportunities. I'm not sure what else someone might imagine from a digital "chamber" but whatever it is, it's not that, it's what I described above. Most of our interactions in there are "We've tried to warn you about your bad grammar and topic bumping but you don't seem to notice, please read the Site Guidelines (which we then post for them) and acknowledge you understand our expectations and we'll let you back out. Thank you." And sometimes things are more intense but not too often. At least, not in my opinion.

Since nobody knows how to read, I'm locking this.

Well, now I have.

I didn't say I'd be taking suggestions. But I don't have TECHNIC sets anyway...

Then perhaps you've read that I said I will be updating all banners this month.

Maybe years ago but not any more.

So, I don't want to discourage any of the discussion that was going on in here. The member who commented above was banned as it was a secondary account from a previously banned member. He was not banned just for speaking against the staff here. You can discuss whatever you want here and I do encourage anyone who has a problem with the staff to take it up directly with us if you feel comfortable doing that. If not, feel free to post about it here and get feedback from other members. Thanks for being part of this site and making it what it is. We know we wouldn't be here without all of you.

You don't use this site because you were banned from it for your behavior. And now this "SSS" account is a new one so let's have a private chat...again. Carry on everyone.

Glad that worked itself out.

Me too! Sorry we have to do this but dealer catalogs are all prelims and against our guidelines. I appreciated how excited you guys are about the product but we have to adhere to the rules. We'll frontpage official pics as soon as we get them. I wish we could keep them up, I really do. Thanks for being members here and thank you, in advance, for your understanding and patience. We wouldn't be Eurobricks without all of you.

I'm not one to try and stop free speech but if this leads to "sketches" or PM trading of dealer catalog pics, I'll start suspending accounts. Sorry. We've had pressure from LEGO about pictures this year which I will not share my opinion about but we've always been against prelim pictures and an entire dealer catalog should be obvious that it's against our guidelines. I find this really annoying and it has created a lot of extra work for me and our all–volunteer staff. I understand people are excited but when you get your hands on a dealer catalog, keep the fun images to yourself. Sharing them is just feeding your ego. You know a dealer catalog is off limits. If for some reason you don't know that, you do now. Thank you for asking. And thank you to all of our members for being members and making our site successful and being passionate about the hobby. You're all very important to us.

Glue, UV, and other heresy for large sculpture
Hinckley replied to sixf00t4's topic in General LEGO Discussion
MEK should be applied between the studs on the "dirty" side of the build, meaning the inside. Anything that leaks over the edge towards the outside, which is viewable, will melt the brick in the shape of the drip and look terrible. UV coating will cover small mistakes but you don't want to damage the outside of the brick. So, apply the MEK between the studs (hopefully you are using 2x brick). Then the UV coating is applied to the outside of the model once the glue has dried, which shouldn't take too long, considering it is spirit based and evaporates quickly. Make sure you glue in a well vented area and let the model dry in a well vented area. The fumes will get trapped inside the model and pour out into your brain when you move it, otherwise. Perhaps buy a ventilator mask, a dust mask will not help you. Did Dr. Spock work for LEGOLAND and design models for the parks? NO. I did. Acetone is not a glue. I found this, a discussion on acetone for gluing ABS, but I personally think it's nuts. At the parks we used GBL or MEK. The guys who were out in the field all the time preferred MEK. The product you linked to is a solvent, designed to clean. If you want to use acetone, feel free but make sure it is the lower percentage in the mix. If you have more acetone than glue, it is a solvent. Hell, give it a shot. I think, as interested as Merlin is in saving money, if acetone was an effective glue, they'd be using it. Most sources I found, by searching on google for five minutes, say that acetone alone is not enough to melt the elements together, nor does it create a tight seal. Why don't you purchase some products and start finding out for yourself? Do some research and let us know how it goes. -

Who said anything about Acetone? Acetone mixed with a glue is a solvent. You use the solvent mixture to cut through the grease. The main ingredient is acetone which is not a glue. MEK is the only glue (besides GBL, an MEK variant) which will glue ABS. It fuses the pieces together. It is a crazy heavy chemical that actually melts the compound together. You don't want any mixtures, nothing mixed with acetone. Try this: MEK -
One of the reasons for no specific theme this year is that TLG re–hashed an old design so people must be itching to build what they would've like to have seen. The theme is "the sky is the limit".
