  1. I can't recall if there was a topic about this, but has anyone else gone from KFOL to TFOL to AFOL with no dark ages in-between? For example I have been getting Lego sets since 2001, and even when I was out of the country for two years my parents mailed me minifigures for Christmas. So did anybody else skip the dark ages entirely?
  2. Just watch this PBS documentary on Rotary Snowplows. It will inspire you to save your train: http://pbs.org/video/2365218614/
  3. There are some really negative views towards Constraction showing up in the discussion thread on the Brickset article. I wrote a rebuttal, but it mysteriously disappeared when I posted (maybe it was to long?). So I figured I'd share my ideas here in brief; I feel the online community has been on an anti-Bionicle soapbox since its debut 15 years ago. What I think few AFOLs (the old guard I'll say, like the early LUGnet guys) relieze is that Bionicle was an important Toy in many of our childhoods. In the same way older AFOLs love Classic Space, Pirates, and Castle; those of us borne in the mid 90's see Bionicle in the same regard. If Lego had never produced Bionicle or Lego Star Wars; I wouldn't have cared for Lego at all as a kid, and I never would have become an AFOL who loves Modular Buildings and Lego Trains. The reason the Bionicle community is so invested in G2 (with very divided opinions) is because we see it in the same excitement as an AFOL who was born in the 70s would view a Classic Space revival. Bionicle touches a piece of our childhood, and we love seeing it on the shelves again. Nerd rant over. Carry on. :)
  4. I've been a bit of a traditionalist "I don't want Friends sets because they are girl toys" type of guys; but the new Friends sets are starting to erode that perception; first with the pug (which I will be buying), and now with the upcoming Amusement Park sets. However my biggest obstacle in buying a Friends set is the minidoll itself. I have nearly 200+ minifigures and I feel that a Friends minidoll would break the consistency. I feel putting a minidoll and a Minifig together is just as jarring as putting a Megablocks Halo figure next to a Minifig; at least in my opinion. I know some FOLs use the minidoll as sort of a "supermodel" figure, but I still find that hard to swallow. However at the same time I amsad that there has been a bias from some Lego fans towards minidoll sets. While it's one thing to have a different opinion, it is strange to see outright hate towards a particular product line. At least a lot of AFOL websites are covering minidoll sets, showing they are gaining acceptance (unlike Constraction which continues to unescarily get a cold shoulder from many AFOLs, that's a topic for another day). Well, as for my own opinions I'll see if these Amusement Park sets are well done, and if they will lead me to my first minidolls. But it will still be a hard adjustment to see the Friends next to all my traditional minifigures.
  5. Any news on the rescue attempt?
  6. Typical Huw :) I wish Brickset had one staff member in England who gave two pence about Bionicle but it seems all their staff and associates (like Jangbricks) who would get excited about Bionicle are Americans... At least it was an honest evaluation, and in a sense to a non-constraction fan like Huw, Bionicle is always the same. As for Bionicle sale data; my hometown newspaper published kid's Christmas lists that they wrote at school. Only one kid asked for Bionicle for Christmas, the majority of kids wanted... Lego Minecraft. Now it remains a mystery to me why kids would want an overpriced pile of 2X4 bricks instead of Bionicle sets (or anything else Lego for that matter)... I see it on the toy shelves in town too, Lego Minecraft everywhere and very little Bionicle. Now I enjoy playing Minecraft; but I am baffled at how Mojong and Microsoft have managed to convince every kid to rush to the store to buy merchandise up... Plan to sell more Bionicle: Introduce a Bionicle skin pack for Minecraft :P P.S. If everyone here is concerned Bionicle sales are bad, they should join us in Train Tech. It could be a club, "AFOLS Sad about Constraction and Train Sales!" :)
  7. Well only a week before the film came out we thought Rey was Han and Leia's kid; and now that the film is out we think she could be Luke's daughter. Either way, Disney has us scampering for clues.
  8. Why isn't there a report button on the little topic title on a forum page? If the topic title sounds super spammy or very lewd, I don't want to open the topic just so I can report it. I've tried reporting the member themselves, but an error keeps coming up when I try to report. I know adding report buttons to the topic title of every thread in a forum could be visually cluttering; but it would make it easier to report the most viscous spam without having to open the topic.
  9. I don't know how people react to snow in where your from; but I do know that if the snow is a light powder you could probably go outside now with a shovel and at least get as much out as you can. If the snow is a heavy-humid slush; then I don't have experience to give advice for that.
  10. If the AFOL is interested in CCBS an assorted pack of beams, torsos, shells, and other add ons would be a great starter. If you want Trains you'll need lots of wheels, couplers, base plates, and track. It really depends on who the kit is for what should be included.
  11. Matt the Radar Technician "I see inside your mind; and it is stupid!" A need to add the Starkiller base Employee Commons room to my long list of "MOC's I want to do someday..."
  12. Why do I suddenly want to enlist in the Navy? I would like more Simpsons sets, but I have yet to buy the two released.
  13. Yeah, 2015 was a great year for Bionicle and quickly drained my wallet; but this year is a little meh. I think Umarak is a standout set and will be my must buy. But I will collect the Toa and creatures gradually "as money is available." I really want to focus more money on Force Awakens and Marvel stuff; modular buildings, and Bricklinking a train I've designed and more G2 style villagers. Either way Lego gets my money... Pity that the Toa are so-so this year. I hope the 2017 Toa are a return to form.
  14. I have found that Bricklink prices are rather decent for common pieces; but shipping is what kills my wallet :P I have yet to Bricklink a large system set, and have so far only been using it for CCBS parts and replacement pieces for battered pieces on my oldest Bionicle sets. I have though a few system LDD projects (RIP LDD) that I want to Bricklink/Pick A Brick/ Bricks and Piece someday; and I am a bit worried about what that would do to my wallet.
  15. Pity no more updates! I was hoping to see some new Bionicle parts on there. At least nearly every System brick is on there, but in a few years it will look out of date.
  16. So Okoto has a neighboring Three Finger Islands... I mean Island of Mystery Maze. I just hope the island is not part of some giant robot's thumb, it would make G2 to, predictable.
  17. A job. I need to find one first! :) My birthday is in February, so if I get money as a gift I think Umarak: The Hunter, a few Star Wars battle packs, the Creator park animals, and maybe some Marvel Superheroes stuff will be in order. Also that Friends set with a pug. It might be my first (and maybe last) friends set, but that pug belongs in my Lego collection, must have!
  18. Of course, Vladlek's cape! I forgot about that one.
  19. Wow, great mix of old school Bionicle, CCBS, and System parts! Is the cape custom?
  20. Lego Collectors: Re-released Winter Toy Shop, blech! Lego Train Fans: Almighty Lego Group, please Re-release the Emerald Night: we need more tan train windows!
  21. I recognize that Mata Nui head in the photo. I think he is a BZp member. I want that Forahk though, ought to make one someday!
  22. I use the tank of gas test. Both gas and plastic are petroleum products, so I think it's a fair trade. A $25-$30 dollar set costs about the same as a tank of gas.
  23. Hmmm. I feel a product such as this is to graphic for Lego Ideas. The way it represents unadulterated fun and child play is a big no for Ideas. And then the way it lacks any license. How did you expect this to ever reach 10,000 votes without Minecraft Steve and the Ghostbusters? How? (P.s. don't take me seriously)
  24. With that said when Gen 2 dies, at least Bionicle will have a better send off then it did with the Stars of 2010 :)
