  1. M-Tron into the new Millennium! Seeking out new sources of ore, the brave crew venture deeper into space. So, house sitting and I found a box of LEGO. I could not resist the urge to build. There looked to be all the parts for the Mega Core Magnetizer, but I wanted to MOC a spaceship instead. I swear the most recent bricks were 20 years old at least. It was amazing fun to work within the confines of a collection that is not mine, made up of parts that at least count as Retro now, none of the handy new elements I am used to MOCing with today. There was a bit of a nostalgic hit too, like building when I was a child without the pretty large and quite extensive collection I have now (with the opportunity to get the parts I really need online or just buy another set...). I hope you enjoy my retro resurrection MOC.
  2. Well, when I tried to fix it, I broke it worse... I have passed to Admin as they deal with the forum sorftware problems. That is why the two accounts were parted from my efforts at Merging that locked them both up...
  3. Brick or plate built roads look very nice and you can control the size. There are plenty of different kinds people MOC.
  4. Mine are mostly mundane: Making a great purchase or some new set/theme becoming available. Only to wake up and realise that it was all in my sleep; I did not purchase a certain set and/or the theme does not exist. There is also the nifty one where ever minifig hair piece is made in every colour LEGO produce with and I have them all (bwahaha), but again, I wake up and realise that this is not a thing.
  5. I think this would better fit in SciFi. I will move it over.
  6. We are working on it, it looks like my attempt at a fix did not work
  7. Uh, this goes somewhere entirely different. Moving!
  8. Kids are very internet able! They know how to use the web to find what they want and ask an adult to make the purchase, just the same as a parent having to take the child to a store to buy something, they can see the better pricing online and make the order (Who doesn't use at least one online retailer these days?). My friend's children are on the internet to show me the latest LEGO set they want, or a movie trailer they are excited for and they know where to look. About the only thing they are not well versed in is finding the Leaks of upcoming sets
  9. Not really in the UK, the prices about match the past, adjusted for inflation. While there are a lot fewer small sets like Paravane or Droid Scout, there are still polybags and sets under £10. In fact, it can be cheaper as there are deals quite often that were never available in the 90s. Also the competition between stores that stock LEGO, the likes of supermarkets that in the 90s only carried toys for Christmas (if at all) are now trying to attract customers into the shop with sales and deals on toys (The toys are sold at a loss, as they want to get you buying their groceries and other goods). Then again, things might be coloured by the fact that when I was growing up my family really didn't have much money, so everything was pretty expensive to us. But LEGO was a great treat and well worth the price, when I could get it. I am not sure what it is like where you are though.
  10. It is part of life and growing up to discover that one big expensive thing could also have been a number of smaller cheaper things. Accepting that your choices are not shared by others and things will not "match" equally is important to learn. When my siblings and I were young, we would have some spending money when we went on holiday and had the "responsibility" to choose how to spend it. Our holiday would last about 7 days, more often than not we would eat at the Cafe in a supermarket for our evening meal. My brother would usually decide on the very first night, that he would spend all his money on toys he saw at the supermarket that evening! So, he would buy maybe one larger LEGO set, or a big playset from some other toy. My sister and I would not do that, quite often we would buy smaller things throughout the holiday. Of course, my brother would then learn that having spent all his money, he could not get other things he wanted or saw somewhere else. We all learned that valuable lesson growing up, it was just a little more difficult for my brother
  11. This is an excellent rebuild of the river boat! I am always happy to see new Adventurer builds. Thanks for sharing this MOC, I am looking forward to seeing the temple.
  12. Probably not. In this day and age, no company; from the smallest market stall to the Fortune 500 big boys, would go without a website or at least a web presence. While The LEGO Group is following their audience and posting/creating content on popular platforms they still require an official homepage that they have total control over. There will always be a LEGO website, but not always in the form you remember. I signed up to the site 19 years ago when a family member first got connected to the internet. What I accessed then is very different to what I access today. In the year 2000 the site I encountered would have looked totally different to LEGO.com at their site at launch in 1996. It will grow and change to fit the needs of the company and the market.
  13. An excellently themed rollercoaster, I love the colours and the terrain you added. Thanks for sharing
  14. Ah, a fantastic Fangy review is what I needed! Now I know what to feel for in the packets. Thanks for the hard work Of course, Johnny Thunder is my favourite
  15. I still know I could use my Storm Trooper figures for a bit of a return if I wanted a bit of money. Every time the design is changed, there is still going to be someone out there who wants to acquire the old design. They are not an investment though, simply a little something I could use if I ever needed to.
  16. As pointed out, there are appropriate places already for this discussion. So I'll close this thread.
  17. If you are looking for Technic Tips, then there is a whole section for that here, but if it is another theme there are lots of places you could look. As for a user, you only need a few posts to access the message system, I mean, you can do that if you want, or try the @ function to notify the subforum lead.
  18. So, I know I have garnered a reputation of Queen of the Clone brands, but I have come across a mystery pair that do not match anything I have come across before. I made a purchase of a mixed box of bricks in a flea market. It had a fair few M-Tron and classic pirates parts in, so despite the noticeable clones, the price made it something of a steal. These are one kind of clone: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-SbVkI0eZ9X_MoPUwonn2M-4IZIvaTDP These are the others https://drive.google.com/open?id=1-Igwfo-mrSryFDSIaYJ4eqZ8PwtjZ8jb Due to the main contents of this box being early 90's, I was thinking they might be from around then. As that put me at pre-10 I would not recall clone brands from that early on! Also, they are not marked Tyco, I have a few of those (excellent quality) bricks from a handed down bucket and they are clearly marked with a Tyco brand. As Mega also brands their bricks and Best Lock were a different scale to LEGO bricks right up until the 2000s (plus there was some form of brand mark too). This is a mystery that will bug me, can anyone shed any light themselves?
  19. Hello! We have tutorials on the site, but the rate that flickr changes If you go in your photostream to the photo you want to share there is a download icon. If you hover a cursor over it, a menu appears. Select "all sizes" that takes you to a new page with all available sizes. Pick the one you want, then it is as simple as copying the image URL and pasting it here on EB. I hope this helps.
  20. I love the simplicity and how iconic this MOC looks. They come in a lot of sets these days. There are plenty in the LEGO Batman movie sets and even in City too.
  21. Everyone has something worth showing! My first shared MOCs here were an octopus figure with a hat and a terrible minifig! Welcome to the forum and hope to see some builds from a fellow MOC builder
  22. I build every set I buy, to learn the parts and any techniques in there. Some sets I like to keep until a part in there is vital, then I will pull the part and start talking the set apart. If I buy extra copies of a set, those go right for parts.
  23. Have you used the wayback machine? That is always my first stop for lost websites.
  24. I am impatient and lazy with cleaning bricks. If the condition is simply "used" so it is dusty and maybe smells a little like storage spaces then I use a nice sized tub of warm water with dish-soap liquid and a wooden spoon. Add handfuls of the LEGO and stir it around in the water, then take them out to dry (as suggested above). If they are really nasty? Uh, maybe rinse them a lot in a cold water and disinfectant and then hope for the best? I mean, unless a part is really rare, there are some states I would rather leave the brick...
  25. I am hoping that Trolls will result in some new instruments, so while I am not looking forward to it, per se, I am interested to see what results from the product. As music was integral to the first film (I have never watched it, but the Anna Kendrick led songs were unfairly catchy when I heard them played on the radio/in shops) most likely it will feature in the sequel. Also, the colours are vibrant and interesting. As a fan ofChris Foss' spaceship style and those of his contemporaries, I like to have a lot of brilliant colours to use in my SF builds. As for Minions, well, rayguns and technology feature in the world of the minions, so there is a hope that a 4+ set (which, lets be honest, 4+ is the most likely audience) will have printed control panels and computers. I am aware that LEGO is its own biggest competitor amongst the themes which does mean that they try and avoid overlap in themes, or making a line that would take sales from another product line. However, what we should be aware of is the fact that the market of children today are not the children we were and we are not the market for the likes of Trolls and Minions. We, as Adults, are the market for the Creator Expert, Architecture and D2C sets, the niche Ideas sets that court pop-culture. Yeah, AFOLs already like LEGO and it is not fun when things we like are seemingly sidelined. But we do not make the main bulk of the income for TLG, so we get nice nods like the Space Squad full of classic space figures and "easter egg" inclusions in the CMF series of Wolfpack, Blacktron and others. Those who seem intent on collecting and displaying sets are those who act most let down though, I find. Even though the whole point of LEGO is creativity? So any theme and any set, a PaB wall and the online PaB can supply parts to build what you really want. But then people also do not want to create and share anymore, so it looks like from the forum and activity on other portals popular with AFOLs. Everyone just wants to argue about what they hate most and why TLG should listen to them and do exactly what they want. Or, alternatively, the leakers are all aiming for infamy by getting out pictures or rumours first and people talk in circles about new stuff. I guess what I am trying to get at is: Sit with a box of parts and create something instead of sitting around moaning about things that haven't even happened yet? It is a lot less depressing.
