REVIEW: 8968 Agents River Heist
Peppermint_M replied to TheBrickDaddy's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
With my secret ninja powers I shall snag these sets from an American TRU so I no longer have to wait! (hmmm, that might be the Perno talking) That looks great. I love how they made a different torso for Dyna-mite. The hair is really cool, I love colour variation. (Plus it will be great for a custom figure I wish to create) the boat looks good, continuing the colour scheme of Doctor Inferno. A nice mid-sized set. Yet another Fuse, no matter I can make more Agents with heads from my collection. The Dollar Bill is fantastic. A great addition to the bad guys. The jet ski isn't so good, but again, parts and stickers means more MOC fodder... Thanks for the review -
I am not really into army building. I have quite a few figures but I like them to be unique. I will have an army of Agents and Inferno figures by the time I finish my Agents and Agents 2.0 collection. Plus extras for specific roles. I have lots of random castle figures/knights.

Yup. I posted ages ago and no one noticed I can't wait for it to come out.

That is a Stingray head from some early 90s sets. /nerdage

I think I prefer regular plates. Baseplates are such an odd width in comparison to the rest of Lego. That said, they are rather usefull for some of my MOCs.

UK Chrome Vader @TRU ! + set update

Was there any sign of any other themes? Or was it just new Star Wars and City? Good news though, as I would like to get the red car. -
The Morals when selling Lego
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Why yes, yes I do. I am not going to be a weirdy obsessive over it, I just wanted to know your thoughts on such deception using something we all love so much. I evidently asked the wrong place/people. With certain things I agree that people get what they deserve (like buying Calgon to help diswashers last longer when you don't live in a hard water area etc) Though your argument there doesn't stand up very well, because I am not sure about elsewhere, but all adverts in the UK have to tell you what things really are and what it means(even if its only smaller than small print or superfast disclaimer speak) for insurance, medicines, food products and special offers, heck, everything that is advertised apart from TV programmes, This is a legal requirement. Then if people have a problem they should have read all the information. These lots are nothing like such things and do not say (even in tiny print) that they are "custom" figures or not really star wars. You can't tell me that someone who has a dedicated eBay shop selling Lego doesn't know what they've got... -
Innocent Green, by Yoko Kanno, the Macross Frontier OST. so relaxing.

The Morals when selling Lego
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm not complaining about those who don't know what they have. I have seen random minifig lots sell at £50 for the two or three star wars torsos in the mix, so anyone who had anything worth mega £££s is going to luck out through a bidding war. I just think it's immoral to knowingly mislable things to make more money. -
UFO sighting over New Mexico
Peppermint_M replied to General Armendariz's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well, yes. I am in Wales and I did say that there have been plenty. Some around the cities (they nearly always turn out to be those Chinese paper lanterns that have recently gained popularity at parties) and quite a few around an RAF base and an Army airbase a few miles away. Then there are the odd ones that fill column inches in local papers that cover miles and miles of not-that-inhabited countryside. That's just in Wales, so there are probably more in England and Scotland but still only confined to very local papers. -
I think its a little late for me to book tickets to the US right? (Plus the small problem of my not yet obtained passport and the mad visa-fu you need to do to get into the US of A) Ah well, at least I will be there in figure thanks to Stash. I just realised, if I ever was able to go, I wouldn't be able to get any MOCs there I have much envy of you guys. Have loads of fun and try not to glomp/squee/faint in the prescence of the important members of TLG.

I am not a jewelery person myself. I have a few necklaces and pendants I wear if I feel like it. My sister on the otherhand wears plenty and makes most of it. She has had two bracelets with Lego keyrings as charms (her style of charm bracelets have lots of odd beads, buttons and orphaned phone charms/keyrings) or pendants once she has removed the key chain. She has quite a few Clikits and buys a keyring every year at Legoland she has even enquired as to wether she would have a few bricks modified into beads (I said maybe). I would never permenantly make Lego into jewelery for myself and I wouldn't buy it (you see the price and you compare it to the price of the elements used...) but I have nothing against assisting my sister by creating Lego "beads" so long as she was ok with either taking what I am willing to give or paying a few pence on my next bricklink order. I have once or twice thought of getting keyrings for turning into pendants though (I really wanted Harley, but looks like I won't have any luck there...).

Hello fellow forumites. If this should be moved elsewhere, please feel free to place it in the correct sub forum (I just didn't think it'd fit in the Trades forum) I have recently been spending some time trailing through the auction site eBay, searching for those lucky finds where someone is selling a big mixed bag of Lego, or older sets I would like (without knowing the name, so regular searches miss them) when I have come across a disturbing (to me anyway) trend. I will not mention seller’s names, handles or even the lot numbers as I am sure you have also come across such things. I am talking about false labelling/tagging of an item or series of items. As we all know, some themes are more popular than others and the best way to sell older themes, or unpopular themes is to find some way to relate it to a popular theme. Star Wars seems to be the most common false tag. Although it annoys me, I am not talking of the selling of minifigs with theme name and "good for Star Wars customs" in the lot name or description, this isn't false labelling (but I don't like judging Lego in relation to the Star Wars stuff). I mean selling things that have absolutely nothing to do with Star Wars as Star Wars Lego. I have seen "A Rancour and Keeper" which is really a Rock Raiders rock monster and an alien head on an Adventurers body. I'm not sure if this lot would sell, but the description sings that it is Star Wars, it is official Lego but not that it is entirely custom made from older Lego parts. I have seen some aliens, Insectiods, UFO, Life on Mars etc sold at Star Wars minifig prices and I have seen a mish mash of elements and themes sold as other characters at a similar price. I have seen Stingrays and Hydronauts advertised as Star Wars. This is a sad thought, but I only know that they aren't real Star Wars because I am a huge Lego nerd, I can look at these minifigs and identify the source theme of each element, sometimes even naming the character. However a lot of people using eBay for Lego won't know this. They might be duped into paying too much to get a not Star Wars thing just because they think they are getting a rare or exclusive character for their collection. They don't know about bricklink, about price guides, they certainly don't have my level of Lego knowledge or anyone else on this forums level. So they are being ripped off. Is this fair? Do the deserve to be ripped off because they should know more/better? Is it a clever ploy for sellers? Or is it meanly taking advantage of the unknowledgeable? For those of a less philosophical frame of mind, can you post anecdotes of your own experiences of wrong descriptions/tags?

UFO sighting over New Mexico
Peppermint_M replied to General Armendariz's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Yah know, a UFO is an Unidentified Flying Object so if you dont know what an object that flys past is, its a UFO. Anything can be a UFO, not just aliens, but for some reason the brainless masses seem to think that UFO is the term for alien spacecraft and only alien spacecraft... We get loads around here, mainly because there is an airbase and lots of Doctor Who fans. -
Yes! Online it is then... All the Lego shops are too far away

Coool Reminds me of Patlabour.

Nope. No UK release anywhere. And I will hopefully be getting some on my trip to Canada in August, but it would wind my brother up something aweful to see all this info and not have much chance to get them (as it is he may not be able to choose, I'll only be able to get what I can pack...).
-
Hmm, football season is winding up then. And I like the team but can only remember the players from when I really was into the team (about five years ago). Since my brothers started watching it on TV with my Dad, I can't be bothered to watch. I went to see a few matches in the Millenium Stadium, so that was cool, but on TV with my annoying sibs? Nah. Other teams are difficult because sport on TV is my Dad's thing and I never get a look in. If Golf, Cricket and Football are not on he'll watch sports news. Hockey and Basketball are on subscription channles so I can't watch any of those. For F1 I just watch the racing, not a team.

Papa Roach Lifeline. Its ok. On TV (music channels as the radio for my morning wake up process). Probably won't get the album as I am not a great buyer of music. Unless it's on vinyl and at least a year or two older than I am.
-
Very nice. Too bad it isn't out over here. I am torn between showing my little brother because he will enjoy it, and not showing it because he'll want the Lego and get disappointed. *sigh*
-
New Trailer that I just found (link leads to io9). Explains what is going on with the ragdolls and the red eyed monsters. Enjoy.
-
I am so impatient. I mean, really, really, reallly impatient. I want them now. Even though I should probably be saving a bit more money and still have one Agents set to get. I can't wait for the new characters and parts to add to my collection.

How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Peppermint_M replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Brand confusion. the reason I accidentaly bid and won a car that looked like speed racer lego, but was really a brick Power Racer. Damn I should read things more carefully. Also: I have to say the FIA brick sets are really quite good. Apart from the slightly odd figures, the bricks are ok and the accessories are good. -
Want some now! But then I still have Speedboat Rescue and Swamp Raid to build... Ok, so I am still impatient for the new sets because I need two of the new ones so I can make a start on my Volcano... Oh, I can't wait. I think I'd just *squee* if I find it in TRU when I go to use my money off coupons (but in the UK we get new sets weeks after the US...) Ho humm.

If you could revive any one dead theme...
Peppermint_M replied to Darth Legolas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They could resurrect all the old themes in time. Kids have short memories and AFOLs have nostalgia. In fact I never had much Western (one little Indian) and not one Ninja set (my ninja are made using sith robe torso's and headwraps that came in the castle accessories pack). So new versions of the old themes would appeal to those of us who couldn't get hold of the old ones. My brother is hugely into Power Miners because he has seen some Rock Raiders and loved it, we both love Pirates (I missed that the first time) and Agents is a fantastic successor to Alpha Team. Therefore, realisticly LEGO can make "the same again" with new elements, colours and building techniques to great success (if the Market is ready for it, anyway) with a whole new market to last time (after all, kids who had the originals are grown up and AFOLs make a minority amongst their peers) and with only a few whingey AFOLs who cannot affect sales much, because kids ignore them
