  1. That is one big list. I went off Marvel (I read X-Men but I was in a bad place and didn't need the angst) xxxHolic and Tsubasa are very good, I have up to 18 of Tsubasa and 12 of xxxHolic.
  2. Welcome. Have fun, post MOCs. Also, I second the other questions.
  3. My latest addition to the MOC, a section of the road, with commuters (in typical Eagleland Style).
  4. Ogel with an upgrade. Green Ninja and Dragon Knight Atomic Robot. This was going to be part of a larger MOC that didn't work out.
  5. I read far too many titles before. It was due to the library not having a few volumes that I even bought my own in the first place. After the "Crisis" I have stuck to JSA and interesting Elseworlds, but I have quite a lot of Teen Titans comics and TPBs (until they got all lame and emo). I have Superman/Batman Generations I and II on my list for my next purchases, as are Alan Moore's work for DC (a collected edition is out there somewhere) the last few volumes of Sandman I need and JSA until such a time as something occurs that puts me off it (I hope the new writers are nice, Geoff Johns was very good to the JSA). I'm sure a heap load of books will come out that I will need. I also have all of the Robotech comics that were collected into books. Lego, Zoids and Books of all kinds demand my money (ps. Barda rocked, I am trying to convince my friends to do a New Gods cosplay for the next comic conj ust so I won't stick out going as Barda when they are Batman Baddies )
  6. It depends what you get Lego for. I get Lego to MOC, I love the sets and once every few years Lego does a set that is so perfect to me I keep it together for a long time, or never plan to take it apart (The Adventurer's Sphinx was the first. Agents Mission 6 was the second) but I mainly buy for the parts, colours, shapes and minifigs/accessories. Therefore I will buy any set that has parts I want, at a price I'm happy with (I won't buy Star Wars sets above battlepack price) If the set only has a few parts and a high price I want I don't buy it. I budget myself if I have been spending too much. And there are some themes I don't bother to collect because I don't like all of it. I am collecting one current theme, Agents, mainly because it has captured my imagination and has so much MOC potential too me. One past theme: Alpha Team and I have all of the Speed Racer sets. (Love the film, love the cars and have fond memories of the 1990s reboot cartoon I watched as a child). If you don't get Lego to MOC you should figure out why you collect (unless you already know) and then work out a limit for yourself. If it's minifigs you want, re-sale of the parts will get you some of the money you want. If minifigs aren't your thing, sell 'em on. If you like the sets just for building, buy your favourites. It's all down to you.
  7. Graphic Novels count. (Although I think that its a bit of a silly title, they're comics butwhat-the-hey, people feel better if they call 'em that) I live miles away from my nearest comic book shop so the only way I keep up are with the Trade Paper Backs. (TPB). My Elseworlds collection is so far made up of Batman:Thrillkiller. The Nail, Another Nail and Kingdom Come. I have a few more on the list. I do have a years worth of Batgirl in single issues alongside my mid-sized collection of TPBs.
  8. ADDICTIVE. Thanks for linking a life eating app.... It'll be just like when I found Tek-Tek... Fun though, apart from the naff names.
  9. Bah, All I can ever find is some dreadful Lego/Oxford ripoffs in a £ shop. Overpriced non-Lego in TKMaxx and Megabloks. So no luck for me. Unless it's Christmas, then Wilkinsons has sets with decent enough accessories and quite high quality bricks (nicer than Megabloks TBH)
  10. I've worked out how to add a section of road above the rotor. I shall be building it this evening (unless the cinema and new Star Trek beckon) and I'll post it later on.
  11. It ends up a lumpy mess when you paint bricks, no matter what paint you use and how carefully you apply the paint. I tried to spray a brick (a mucky white one) and the paint scratched off. Acrylic looks dreadful (One door hinge painted so it wasn't blue but grey) and model paint looks good if carefully applied but scrapes off far too easily. A baseplate painted would be hopeless as studs would gain thickness and the space between gets gatherings of paint gloop.
  12. Hello. Having used the search function and not found anything from the past two years asking members which comics they read, I decided to ask just that. So... I read Justice Society of America (10 years worth of TPB). Any Elseworlds that take my fancy and Alan Moore's lesser known work for 2000AD and hit Top 10 series. I love The Sandman and I am slowly colecting all of the TPB. Geoff Johns is my favourite writer (I noticed that the books I liked best had him credited every time). As for manga, I am reading CLAMP's Tsubasa and xxxHolic and I also read Fullmetal Alchemist. I have the complete The Big O manga (apart from two untranslated books) and all of Cyborg 009. Webcomics? I read Shortpacked! Dr McNinja, Girl Genius, xkcd, chainsawsuit, Starslip, VG Cats, Megatokyo, Non-Adventures of Wonderella, Freak Angels, The 10 Doctors, Kitty Hawk, Legostar Galactica, Adventures of S-Team, Irregular Webcomic, Lego Space and Order of the Stick. I may have missed some off the list (my favourite internet links know what I read anyway). So how about you?
  13. Tha's a bit evil isn't it? Is it really sad and girly to say I would like cute tie in toys? Because I do. Those dolls are very cute. (Note aliens and denziens of the net. I made graveyards on the beach as a child and find some pretty odd stuff cute) I just really, really hope I get to see it within a month of the US release date.
  14. so how much is endor? I need the rebel torsos.
  15. Today I knocked one of my cosmic cycles off a shelf. It shattered and therefore is impossible to repair. Ho hum, it happens when the entire MOC is supported on one centralised point.
  16. Thanks, the high voltage sign seemed like a good idea as the rotors are powered by solar energy and I needed a unit sign because such things are a requirement.
  17. I finally bought a big grey baseplate on my last trip to legoland, its fantastic. My MOCs are not often dependant on baseplates, mainly because of their width, I prefer working in plate widths or brickwidths and baseplates can muck it up (I am looking for the plates to use on the volcano, replacements for the baseplates). This might be because of how "rare" they are and the bricklink prices but it's the case for me. That said, I have the baseplates that came with the Spiderman Secret Origings set, a clear one from a Mosaic set my little sister bought in one of her 'we are at legoland and everyone is getting something so i want something too' moments (last year was dreadful, she wanted overpriced foam swords just to be bought something) a big grey baseplate, a desert baseplate with driveway from the Sphinx and two megablocks baseplates from a skatepark set.
  18. Agents. Speedboat Rescue, Swamp Raid and Deep Sea Quest, they're on their way (in a sense) from the online shop.
  19. I tried a bit of road above it, but it looked a bit naff. I might make a change or two, add a level of workings and some black baseplates with your typical Eagle Land types "riding" it. This was just a quick build while I had a picture in my head of what I wanted. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have read the story, most others know of different books but not the short stories. I want to build a Crooked House next
  20. <div align='center'> 'Hear them hum! Watch them run! Oh, our job is never done, For our roadways go rolling along! While you ride; While you glide: We are watching "down inside", So your roadways keep rolling along! Oh, it's Hie! Hie! Hee! The rotor men are we - Check off your sectors loud and strong! One! Two! Three! Anywhere you go You are bound to know That your roadways are rolling along! KEEP THEM ROLLING! That your roadways are rolling along!'</div> From the Roads Must Roll by Robert Heinlein 1940. I re-read the short story today and decided to make a MOC of a rotorman with his rotor. They keep the veins of America rolling, taking people and goods to their destination on massive belts. It's a very good story, I have it in the book 'The Best of Robert Heinlein 1939-1942'
  21. Oh, Best-Lock improved? Hmm, we avoided it after the spaceship. I'll take a look at the forum, thanks for the link.
  22. Best-Lock is ok as a standalone building toy. The problem is the scale it's on, just off from Lego/Megabloks/Oxford bricks so they don't combine well at all. If it didn't claim to combine with all major brands it would be ok. BTW, I did look for Oxford on ebay, however they cost rather a lot on shipping, effectively doubling the price. Therefore I won't be buying it at the moment. There is a Bloks forum? All I ever found was a rather puny one on a forum host of the sort me and a few friends of mine use to have long standing debates and "blog" with each other. I was looking for somewhere to get some megabloks and non-lego mf accessories.
  23. Everyone is fond of owls (sorry for randmoness links) Great MOC.
  24. My gateway is somewhere on this forum. Here it is. The framework for the hanger is awaiting the robot, unless mania3 can give me a brick hight and stud width for the robot "at rest" so I can start to put equipment into the hanger, alter the size of the Mecha bay and such. Once I have a size for the hanger I can make a more concentrated start on my Inferno Compound Headquarters too, because the size of the hanger decides its position and the doorway for the robot. I really can't wait for these sets to come out in the UK. I am going to order the last of the sets I need from last years collection tonight. edited in a link
  25. Yes. When I was younger I made a rather big castle across two baseplates. I kept it on top of my wardrobe as it was a little higher than my brother could reach. Needless to say, he either wanted to play with it, show it off or get a better look at it, any way the baseplates split at the joint tipping the castle to the floor. I came home to a pile of bricks and two baseplates. Another time I had made a jungle village, lots of fiddly trees and tree houses, leaf steps and a little stream running through. I was very pleased with it and had only just finished it. It was on a desk in front of my window. Now, it was summer so I had my window as open as it would go (it was a standard sort of window, all pane and a section at the top that opens outwards) my window is above the back garden... Well, my Dad was in the garden and had my giant tennis ball (I had lent it to a sibling to play with) so he decided to chuck it through my window... It came through first shot and bounced all over the window sill and straight through my MOC before I had a clue what was going on. I wasn't that old, so I was inconsoleable. He said sorry but I was really upset for days. Nothing else has broken so catastrophicly, apart from a MOC falling over, but I wanted to take it apart anyway. edited for spelling
