  1. Yes, yes he is. Stormtrooper, Crewman, Gunner and The Spirit are the costumes I know he does/has made since I met him. Drop him a line and mention me or eurobricks and he'll know that you are the potential trooper I mentioned. I was also bothering him for Robotech Expiditionary Force armour help last night. A costume I have wanted for quite a while.
  2. Heyoh So. TK2289 consulation tells me that the suit you linked can be purchased for £500, if you look hard. Shepperton is display only. He advises you to sign up on the forum (after all, Eurobricks is 18 over only) but you must be 18 to have the full kit (growth etc) .and ask around to get more help. When you seriously want to be a trooper. If you join, msg TK2289 and he'll give you a hand.
  3. Fables is great. I recently borrowed book 10 (The Good Prince) from the Library and I have read book 1 and some of Jack of Fables. I'm glad the writers have been given JSA to work with, because they can craft a fantastic story.
  4. I'll have to get TKPinky's verdict on it all. I have no idea about the full rules, regulations or anything like that. He will know what is wanted and why. All I know is that some things need really detailed moulding that some costume producers don't do, or gloss over. I asked him how much it could be to get a Knight Saber's hard suit made... I would have to give up Lego and my plans of moving out... I think it is the more you pay, the better the detail. I'll ask tonight and link the pictures. You've got plenty of time to get it together .
  5. Still active I just bought the latest JSA book (Thy Kingdom Come pt3) and a Sandman book. I read Full Metal Alchemist on One Manga. I think I will start collecting the books once I have some space for it.
  6. Cool. The armour is very expensive for the custom moulding, the extra little details and all the work done to get it into perfect shape, plus any electronics you may need (vocoder, fan etc) and any padding you have to add. my friend got it over the course of a year, he was cleared when he was 16. But then costumes are his hobby and he is nuts.
  7. Yeah, that's what I want to know All I can tell is the guys who "clear" the costume for the public to see under the 501st banner are really fussy and strict. So the most expensive stuff is all that is good enough. I think they want to look the best and be the best compared to the other "garrisons" in of 501st and in comparison to other costume clubs. You can be something other than a trooper though, they have "Legends" from comics, films etc. Last time I pocked my TK about it I didn't get anywhere in finding out why they are so fussy. (They even have rules about how you can act when in costume, no breaking character, or heaven forbid, smile).
  8. Yeah, the 501st has some strict rules about costume quality. The UK Garrison doubly so. My friend wants me to join at some point but I cosplay for fun, not super duper accurate (just as accurate as I can achieve.) My Death costume is going to be really easy .
  9. It's sad that MB is going under, after all they employ people and who would lose their livelyhood. I think a small amount of competition for Lego is a good thing. You can say what you will about being slaves to the free market but you can't deny that quality has vastly improved in Lego since MB became a global (in a "where building toys are big" sense) competitior. In the late 90s they were in shops in the UK and for a while there were more MB products in shops than Lego. MB gave Lego the kick up the backside it needed to sort itself out and improve quality. If you examine sets from a long way back until today you can see a huge improvement in recent years compared to quite similar construction from the 70s to the late 90s. You can argue that this is a natural improvement over time but I wonder what Lego would be like today if MB didn't exist, or had a signifcantly smaller market share? Who could say what anything would be like without competition and threat? Rockets that could launch a payload and Radar were invented and developed for WWII. Computers advanced beacuse the companies wanted to stay ahead. We have motion sensing and touch controls from Nintendo because Sony had the Playstation (Look at the pattern, Gamecube failed against Xbox and PS2, but the Wii is soundly beating them) who knows what Sony will create to get more market share? The free market, although a somewhat loathsome thing and the basis of a greedy system, helps us have high quality goods. (Heh, those two years of Sociology didn't go to waste )
  10. The 501st UK? I shall have to put you in touch with my tame stormtrooper then. As for the MCM, lucky you, I missed it this year (exam/revision) but I am going in October! I have cosplayed Final Fantasy twice, Steampunk twice, Dieslepunk, as Harley Quinn and in october as Death from Sandman.
  11. the mobile command is awesome. The first set in 13 years of Lego collecting that I have kept together for more than a month, and plan to keep together for the foreseeble future.
  12. All I have seen in TRU is some of the new City Rescue line, a car, the tow truck and the large flatbed with the heli and the motorbike. No Agents at all, and lots of the current/old Star Wars, Power Miners and City. I haven't seen the summer sets anywhere else. It gets a bit frustrating having barely anywhere to buy Lego after Woolworths closed it was the first place to get the new themes and sets (always at 10% off for the first two weeks!). Supermarkets only sell the Star Wars and City sets, with a few Creator pods and mini racers. Oh, and lots of Bionicle
  13. Wow, you know a lot about bootlegs and clones. I've just been collecting cheap boxes I come across and images from eBay.
  14. Can I just call D.Zaster Slimeface? Or are they twins.... *ponders* Ho hum. Waiting and waiting for the sets to turn up in the UK is very annoying, what with all the reviews. All the new sets have been reviewed now haven't they?
  15. I love their not bayblade honest "Battle Strikers". I lol at you Megablocks.
  16. I really liked the film, French and Saunders just made that film perfect. It was a cool film that I managed to see with someone who likes that sort of thing (so no moaning that it was weird) and who also isn't an uptight movie critic (like my sister, and my other friend). I hope I can track some merchandise down.
  17. Interesting Best-Lock/Oxford theory. Too bad they dont release them in the same quality and themes.
  18. Hello. Hope you enjoy the site My Mum tells me that after thirteen years of LtF (Lego to Foot) inicidents you develop a resistance to the pain. All I know is that Lego is great fun for everyone (except feet).
  19. Looks great Thanks for the review. Clear, consice and lots of helpful pictures I think the robots need a bit of modification, the little "base" will work well in my planned MOCs... I am going to be getting all the Agents sets, it's the only theme I am really interested in this year.
  20. I am doubting that I'll get to see it anywhere near the 9/9... Coraline came out months after the US and now Up, a Pixar film won't, be out in the UK until OCTOBER! Though Coraline was fantastic.
  21. Er, whut? May the 4th isn't it? The 25th is Towel Day. To commemorate the passing of a fantastic wit and creator of a superior SF. Ho hum. I guess TKPinky will bug me over msn about it then.
  22. INTERJECTION Best-Lock is not a bootleg. It is a clone brand of a medium quality (since they changed brick sizes). Similar to Megablocks but lower quality. A bootleg is a clear copy of a Lego set or a non-Lego brand set that uses Lego specific elements. Like this: Bootlegs can vary from dreadful quality to useful and useable (I have a review of a set I bought to post, but with the moderator objection, I guess I'll e-mail it to Reasonably Clever and see if Chris Doyle will run it for a day off) I have built up quite a collection of non-Lego brands for elements Lego won't make (like certain guns, and until recently bulletproof vests) and will continue to buy cheap sets for these and for filler brick. To conclude: Bootleg = Clear Rip off of existing Lego set (e.g. "Power Racer" cars). Clone Brand = Similar to Lego, combines with Lego but not as high quality as Lego. (e.g. Oxford, Megablocks, Best-Lock)
  23. Welcome, have fun and don't be disheartened if MOCs don't go according to plan.
  24. Has this just turned into "How to rip off retailers" ("In theory honest?") topic? It's greedy and wrong to switch barcodes. It is stealing and however much you dislike the retailer (for whatever reason) it never makes cadging a few sets at a lower price through fraud acceptable. So why is everyone talking about how to change barcodes again?
  25. Sometimes I change sets because Lego designers are stuck with a part count or a limit to how complicated it can be. If i see somewhere that a set can be improved I might make it better. Most of the time I just take it all apart and make something new. At the moment I have changed the Agents Turbocar Chase, the gate was too flimsy and the car too big. I also have plans to match the parts of another set or two so I can make them in different colours.
