Forestmen's River Fortress Remake
Peppermint_M replied to Master0889's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wonderful greenery around this fortification, it does look like something you could come across in a forest, taken over by the outlaws as their base. I also appreciate the great mix of "set build" large panels and the more detailed MOC type building, they blend very well and make a good creation all around. Thanks for sharing. -
The Red Fort, or Gaer Goch in Welsh, is a small fortification built to keep the local area under the authority of the King. He has installed his Sheriff and a small garrison of men to guard the keep. Two local peasants are allowed on the grounds, for a share of their produce they can fish and graze their livestock. The keep of the fort, I have made the top floor a little fancy for the sheriff to be comfortable, and put in a few details to break up the walls. The keep has a connected tower for a watchman to look out over the land. A local rascal seems to have bagged herself some game, daringly close to the castle. The side of the gatehouse and the second tower. Guards and knights populate the fort, some knights are simply visiting as they travel from place to place. The travelling fool visits the manors and inns of the county, his little dog part of the act. He has been asked to stay a few days, the Sheriff has guests and would like to entertain them. The plan from above, you can see the well inside the castle, the angled walls I put in to place, the wall walk around the whole space. The footprint is two 32x32 baseplates, minus a quarter at the overlap. The guards and knights were chosen for their colours and the fact I used the Dragon knights for my Yellow Castle project. The Sheriff and his wife with their little dog were a final touch. I built this during lockdown in 2020, it has taken me a while to get around to photographing it. I went over to Caldicot Castle to take the photos, it makes for a good backdrop. The build process is over in my Instagram photos. I am peppermint_builds if you would like to take a look. I have been a little inactive over 2021 so most images are easy to find. If people are interested, I can post them here properly. Hope you enjoy my classic styled build

Help with identifying parts/sets!
Peppermint_M replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
With something quite so fine a detail, I think there would be a lot of variation in the final product, especially in a part that does not have to tolerate the micro-changes from regular clip/unclip the same way a brick must. The coin only has to work on the edges to be held by a minifigure, so the logo and the number likely can wear or be less filled in without causing problems for the integrity. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas Guilds of Historica Heroica! The RPG The Great Brick War These are the current games running. Their rules and requirements are recorded in their respective threads in each section.

Hopefully they will be changed to a paper package, which means a change to listing. I like the little Xtra packs as an impulse buy at the LEGO store, reminds me of the Service Packs and the joy I had when my Mum ordered me the Castle one when I was a kid.

Thanks for the tutorial on that plant, the end result is fantastic.

You're in luck, we have an active and, well, vibrant? Certainly knowledgeable! Technic community here on EB. Enjoy the forum with your complicated and mind boggling constructions (Technic is well beyond me!)

Welcome to the forum. That app sounds interesting, but the neural training for it... The applications something like that has could be amazing.

Another nice tribute to a classic set. Great that you have included a story too. -
Help with identifying parts/sets!
Peppermint_M replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No, those look like the gold chrome I've had. In fact your opened coins might have been affected by atmosphere or handling that has changed the colour. Moulds get re-tooled or replaced after a certain amount of use to. I think if the tolerances on the manufacture of large steel and aluminium products (something I encounter in my job) changes over the life of a mould, it certainly will change on a small detail on a LEGO mould. -
There are several games running in different theme forums, but currently no contests. Keep looking out, contest do get run from time to time.

All Tags are awarded by staff. Some are prizes for contests, others area handed out for achievements by members participating in roleplaying games and some of the many Building Games on the forum. Some are just handed out if a member has impressed staff (who have the power to give out tags) with their MOCs or other forum activity. Darkdragon has Nya's Phoenix emblem for helping me out on a big project some years ago, for instance. The As Seen On TV badge is for members who have been on TV for their LEGO Hobby. Others are mystery in-jokes their origins lost to time... If you stick around, get involved and be a positive member then you could earn a tag or two Just never ever ask for one, it does give people the wrong impression.(Unless you win your choice of tag in a contest, of course).

Sometimes there is other random questions generated, I think we implemented something on top after a big wave of spam at some point. Favourite Set, or most recent purchase now, I think.

Help with identifying parts/sets!
Peppermint_M replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That ain't LEGO. From the colouring of the bricks I would say Mega Bloks as they do a lot of colour mixes to get that marbled look on certain parts and they had a Call of Duty series. I can't help much beyond that, but searching up for those might help you narrow down the exact set. -
Could a "Like" button be introduced?
Peppermint_M replied to Lego David's topic in Forum Information and Help
I said it elsewhere and I'll say it here: It doesn't take much to post a quick comment that you enjoy/like/appreciate a MOC. With most phones you get words supplied to chose from once you start typing. Even less effort! A Like button has been suggested before, but it is not really what a Forum is for. -
I break down most sets, there are a handful I keep together as bought, but 70% of my purchases are for parts once I have built the set, 20% are for parts right away (as in I do not bother to build the set) and the last 10% is for sets I want the set as-is. Another good way to build up a collection is to get the bulk lots from Facebeook marketplace, Gumtree etc. People sell boxes of mixed parts for low prices as they want to get rid of things quickly.

Adventurers Desert (Egypt) MOCs/MODs

You are welcome to make new threads for each new MOC if you want to I like the classic styling to the plane, really looks like it could be a set from Adventurers. -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
Peppermint_M replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I do not have any idea 'bout TikTok, (I was stumped by Vine too...) but I am a fossil in some respects. I get what they are, but never engaged with the platforms. I do share on Instagram, but never often, I keep meaning to change that but so far I post quick MOC photos once projects are done. Never ever would I gatekeep, I just want to share my passion for creativity and encourage it in others! -
Oh flip, making instructions is impossible. The way I build is not conducive at all to making instructions and I can barely explain it to people. I might be able to get angles people can use to build a replica but not exactly what I did to build it.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
Peppermint_M replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yup, I have heard that one. Some markets would even call it "False Advertising" and want to file class action! I think something else we need to consider is the change in how people are sharing and interacting. There can be plenty of people building and sharing on Instagram, on private Facebook and Snapchat groups, or Discord (etc) that we do not encounter ourselves as we are not members or are not actively joining in with those communities (I follow some IRL EB friends, fellow staff etc on Instagram, I am in a few facebook groups for LEGO fans but my main space is here on EB). People do not engage with forums so much any more. -
Now that's thinking with portals... Wait. Wrong type of portal! There is a real dynamic look to the figure posing and also a very nice set of character designs here. The varied colours in the brickwork also help make the structure look aged. Will we be seeing more exploits of our hero? Or indeed his infernal opponent?

Ahahah, I love mimics and this one looks very chompy. The tongue is a great feature, you can imagine it catching and rolling some poor victim in. While I am nowhere near good enough to play the game, I do appreciate these monsters. Thanks for sharing.

Adventurers Desert (Egypt) MOCs/MODs
Peppermint_M replied to sinister5988's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Ah ha, the Sphinx was a treasured childhood set (which I paid tribute to a while back) so my tent was original and has weathered the years. I look forward to your future builds. Adventurers offers so many different settings and places that to this day still reveal ancient secrets. (I forever wish for a revival!). -
I think the ads can be weird but they all have the button at the top right to go to Ad Choices (On Chrome anyway) EB is one of my few whitelisted sites but I still get the odd advert I'd rather not.
