Adventurers Desert (Egypt) MOCs/MODs
Peppermint_M replied to sinister5988's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Ooo, that tent is in marvellous condition. Mine is rather ragged these days, I've had to substitute more recent tents! Always great to meet another fan of Adventurers who creates MOCs. Thanks for sharing -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
Peppermint_M replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Soo, this is supposed to be a thread on the shift from creative to consumer fanbases, not another place for people to rant about Space sets existing or not. Or like, a lot of what was going on here. Can we keep on topic yah? There are a lot of places for the other discussion. Honestly, there has been a noticeable shift from Building with LEGO to Talking About LEGO. With most of that just post after post of gripes or fake leaks... -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?

Speed Champions has always been Licenced? They replicate existing car manufacturer's products, complete with badges and livery, all of that is licenced from the varied car companies else they would be infringing on the IP (as the car design and the branding are all IP of the company.) Licenced does not just mean a media franchise that TLG buy into so they can create tie-in toys. The Fender Guitar is Licenced from Fender (And Fender are super litigious about their guitar designs being copied) The likenesses of The Beatles for the art set is Licenced from the respective members/members estates (or whatever entities they ceded the ownership/management of to). I think the main issue all toy producers face now is the market saturation of media properties and the expectation that their in-house products must have tie-in media. This isn't a new thing either, it has been forty years in development. From He-Man designers lying and saying a cartoon was in production to sell the toys, to GI Joe relaunching with a cartoon for the new nine-inch figures. The proliferation was inevitable due to the success of the model. Even increased regulations couldn't throttle it. Kids want to recreate what they see on the screen and then re-enact the stories and play new adventures. Now, Fandom also drives a lot of sales. Where once it was a strange geek/nerd thing for an adult to have objects and apparel related to a film or TV series they loved (it was only for children to do that!) now it is an enormous industry and accepted. People can have their Mr T Pop Vinyl figure, their Ravenclaw crest keyring, the sticker that marks their laptop as Stark Industries. It becomes a kitsch and cool note (or the very foundation of the personality...) and as accepted as people who show support for a sports team with their hats/shirts/scarves. This means there is more money in creating these objects so companies will follow that money. With people having a desire to display their fandom, purchasing a LEGO set to display is one way to do it. Creativity is manifested in many ways; I can build a MOC, but I can't code to save my life (I also struggled with the simple game building tools in Disney Infinity) while there are children on Roblox creating wild and varied games, who may not even consider LEGO as more than the Star Wars ship on their shelf. Someone could purchase and build a Friend's café set because of their love of baking/cooking (another creative pursuit) and display it proudly as another facet of their main love. Of course, it frustrates me that sharing a creation online does not gain attention. I like to think I have some technical skill that sets me apart from beginners, but I have a style that is not as extensively detailed (to put it politely) so it is often times there are a few Flickr "likes" and a comment or two on the forum but that is it. It is what it is, and I've not been able to MOC much in the past year and instead have had writing as a creative outlet. One thing everyone can do is comment on MOCs, if you think "Huh, that's nice" Tell the builder you think it is nice, whatever you like about it (colour choice, shaping, the figure!) It is not much effort and does not need to be an essay, but it encourages people and tells them they are noticed. If you can think of an improvement, share a tip or ask about the choice that led to the feature you're thinking of. It prompts discussion on a creative act. Anyway, this has been my TED Talk. Thank you. -
Which animal you'd like to see re-moulded?
Peppermint_M replied to zinnn's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Between the goats I have and that, looks like I can make some bank I would love a new goat, more dogs (Corgi please) and a llama printed with standard eyes over the cute friends ones. Also, it would be nice to get them in affordable sets! -
I did plenty of reviews back in the day One part Rebel Yell, one part facetious and two parts grew up poor. I need to pare down the clones I have, there is way more than I want to hold on to. I am thinking of selling the Halo parts and then donating the other stuff. I used to maintain a decent amount, as I would display once a year at a comic con, and it was no loss to have the clone bricks for Free Play. Plus, I could give away if I was feeling generous. Now the con is defunct, I don't need the bricks.

Not really. Inactive members are just that. Inactive. If you try messaging here, or check their profile for other sites that they use, you might have some luck.

I think the Custom Minifigure section of the forum could be a helpful section for you. I am more of a mix-n-match than custom printer but plenty of people know about the more technical parts in there.

Optimum Ratio of Blue:Gray for Classic Space
Peppermint_M replied to ThomusBean's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When I MOC something that is going to be Classic Space in blue and grey, I work on a simple rule: Crew Space is blue and function space is grey. So, the cockpit, or the equipment storage or any sort of area that is for use by spacemen is in blue with the trans-yellow for windows. All wings, boosters, cargo, varied mechanicals are in grey. That includes support struts for a base, or any extra "greebles" like antenna, dishes and sensor arrays. Of course, some of the smaller vehicles were in grey entirely, so I personally work on the plan that if the vehicle has need for any sort of window or canopy/screen then it needs blue. However if it is not an enclosed cockpit then it looks good in all grey. Though, this is all my own personal observations and aesthetic opinions. -

Help with identifying parts/sets!

LEGO Xtra stickers but they are sold out and apparently do not even appear on the UK site. Not sure if you can find them on the US one. -
Last time I mentioned something about LEGO fans and not LEGO products, numerous others said that this was not the subject/ topic of discussion. Please therefore keep with the topic of Unpopular Opinions About LEGO, not about the fans, fan sites and other unrelated issues. Thanks.

In that case: You still need to choose the image size you want from the "download image - All Sizes" section (In photostream, there is the download button). Once that image size is selected you can copy and paste the URL into your post. The forum software should deal with displaying the image. Once you can view the image in your post, double click the image and a dialogue box will open up. That box has an option to paste a link to wherever. Click that and as you can see, it is not a link to the larger image (thought it does send you to a song so careful with the sound!) If you are on a phone, I will have a poke about to check how it works or if it works differently. Edit: nope, double tap the picture and the box appears. It is just more of a pain to get an image URL to paste in for the picture to appear.

The Minifigure is still TLG property and they will also take on the companies over branding and graphics. Even if the white text in a red block says LEPIN they are still trying to create brand confusion with a LEGO trademark mimic, the same for using font and graphical elements for themes (Next Knights is not Nexo Knights but it is in the same font and uses the same logo for example). Also, the actual set design will count as IP, as people in the employ of TLG made it. That can get muddy with certain basic things like a generic thing like Fire Truck or Police Car, but again the bootlegs make Minifigs exactly the same, the stickers and prints will be a rip-off. In true whack-a-mole style though, a brand can be shuttered and then pop back up with yet another variation. Interestingly they tried to get Zuru over figures and bricks (also the tape) and lost on the bricks and tape part. I honestly can't see too much similarity in the figures, in comparison to Kreons and Mega figures, but of course TLG will only go after the little brands and not try to hit Hasbro and Mattel. (I love LEGO, but I really do not like TLG).

I prefer to build my own terrain so a cheap plate is exactly what I need. As for other stuff, I like to get hair colours LEGO don't produce and weapons that they don't or won't make.
-
I am a complete heathen. I get figure parts and accessories from any source that will supply my demand. I also get any brand of Baseplate. While I do not mix my bricks and other basic parts, I don't worry about hair pieces and weapons not being official LEGO. Also, in the case of baseplates, they are practically the table surface I build on, so getting one that is £1.99 and not £6.99 is much more fiscally sensible.

Help with identifying parts/sets!

The red uniform is from LEGO Town/City racing drivers between 1994 and 1999. The Oil one has been in City quite often 1994 to 2013 The last one looks to have been slightly changed as it never had red arms officially. Res Q was a City/Town subtheme in 1998/1999. Hope that helps -

That one would be from the web browser. Other people have mentioned they need to change setting for this site. You are going great :) -
Warping at what degree of heat?
Peppermint_M replied to danielwerner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Don't worry, the post you quoted was for Kim-Kwang-Seok. I think your sets should be safe where they are, especially still in their boxes. Damage to ABS is mostly from sunlight and other things that are unlikely to reach through the sealed bags in a box -

Did you do that for any reason other than to be facetious? Polite request: Per the forum rules everyone agrees to when you sign up, please post in the forum with English. -

Hello On Eurobricks, we ask that you use English so we can all communicate with each other. Thanks -
Are you using the URL from photostream? If you used the Download "View all Sizes" and choose an appropriate size image, you can copy and paste the image address and it should appear in the post.

I suppose we could go the way I spotted in the LEGO House, which is adhering baseplates to a sculpted foam shape Carpet fitting doubled-sided tape is very adhesive and can stick a baseplate to the shape. That plate is then given a terrain overlay that is less part heavy. For a smaller mountainside I like to use SNOT techniques over a Duplo bricks core. A wooden framework would also be a support that is less parts heavy, but includes more DIY.
