Ahem, this thread came first. As the first post came in April and mine was January... As my first post pointed out, it is for short fiction when one wants a quick read on the internet. Not for long novels, or that scary book club reading dictatorship claptrap. Sadly it didn't seem to take off and was going the way of all inactive threads until you bumped it up to minimod. Fellows have the moderation rights hereabouts, so def or myself would have merged the threads if they were supposed to go together. I am loath to shut this down, mainly due to the vain hope of others wanting to add the odd recommendation, but I might have to if anymore posts pop up that are not really contributing to the intent. Ho hum...

Thanks guys. Glad you like the tree, I am working on different techniques I am going to index them once it is all done. Shadows suggested I post each big in the relevant sub-forum (plus it means more people will see the ones they would be interested in). After all, the figures are too diverse for one place. I am also going to make them a Flickr Set, or Brickshelf folder once I have finished them all. Each big will feature theme appropriate scenery, but at a slightly small scale, like a "Small World" scene or themed minigolf hole .

Five ninja hiding. This is the first of 16 planned "bigs" to showcase the figures I got in the box of 60. Can you spot all the ninja? I decided upon the 16x16 baseplate for the neatness of numbers and the fact that it can have five minifigures plus scenery, but will not swamp three figures. The max/min numbers being 3 of each up to 5 included in a box. I hope to have one a day until all 16 are covered, but it may slip if I can't keep up the builds...

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures...

England?! Unless the little boy is in a similar situation to Amelia Pond, I do believe it is set in Wales. He didn't sound very Northern (which is where the not Welsh coal fields are to be found) and that seemed to be a lot of mine workings and suchlike. In fact I'd hazard a guess it was filmed not too far down the road from me, or possibly further up the vallies. -
It is a characture clue/cue So it is supposed to be for Aerith (why is pale pink torso so expensive? TLG make more!), mainly taken from Crisis Core, in which the flowers grow pink (yet they seem more yellowish in the original PS1 game and then are white in Advent Children... A horticultural mystery!). Most of my reference pictures are from CC, so I stuck with it for this build. Hey, if I ever get rich and have plenty of space, I can build the whole thing

*Deadpan look* No duh... Heh, I had always planned to make the Church, but it ended up so big in all my sketches and LDD MOCs that I kinda gave up. Then as I sorted my Lego I saw I had a whole load of pink flowers and brown tiles, so I made this. Not sure what to make next though, there are a whole pile of FF characters to build for.

You boys moderate these forums too much...

Also, if one wishes to document one's collection and allow others to see it there are many websites you can use to list them in. I keep a link to mine in an elegant and finely crafted link, colour coded for the website (brickset) in my signature. The moderation here is top notch. If you like, you can go join some other forums related to Lego and see what things could be like. Eurobricks admin staff do a great job for free with full and fair explanation. -
As I haven't the means nor the space to build large chuncks of scenery. Nor do I have the parts to make a custom figure (not just yet anyway), I decided to make a "Character Cue" for a certain Final Fantasy Character. I hope to make a few more for other characters too. When I have the time and have finished another of my planned MOCs

I get what you mean about "the hunt" Zoids are hard to find in the UK and thus seeking out and finding them is thrilling (more so than building them). However at times I have held back from buying a set only to miss it and regret the loss. So these days I use the advanced images and early reviews to cement in my mind exactly what I'd buy. Take for example last year when the first Kingdoms and World Racers images came through, I was very excited for both themes and felt quite certain I would be purchasing all of said themes, then over the months I have warmed greatly to World Racers and I will be quite likely to buy many sets, but I have cooled off towards Kingdoms, so much so that I will probably only get a few of the smaller sets and the Advent Calander. When I was a kid, Lego sets were few and far between, I would pour over the Argos catalogue and enjoy looking at the sets when the supermarkets stocked some, but really getting sets was more what I could afford when we were on holiday and could find at the time (one day I had my heart set on a rather cool set, alas funds could not stretch and still I seek it for a reasonable price). I suppose the past few years I was "making up" for all the times I couldn't afford/ couldn't find and now I am left with a monster pile of doomful unsorted Lego (it torments me so). I am proud to say that compatible bricks and Lego are seperated however. I guess I like the hype as it helps me to decide more than do I need it (little voice says yes. All the time.) can I afford it (well, I call it a slush fund for a reason) and do I have room for it (sure, I'll just... It will fit really!). Parts and figures are considerations before I even think about purchasing a set. I am only guilty of having unopen sets if it is A: A gift for my brother and he is yet to deserve it/just had one. B: A set I bought for Mum to build or C: A two manual City set that I promised Mum could help build. They rarely stay unopen for long. I guess I am not purchasing in the same volumes as many other members. Great Article though, thought provoking to say the least

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I like Pluto, his tribute to Astro Boy, but that is (as far as I know) only a manga. If it were and anime I would totaly be buying it by now! Anyone got their eye on any upcoming series? I heard tell of a Young Justice cartoon series coming soon, it looks to be more along the lines of Justice League than Teen Titans (art and possibly story wise) and it looks pretty good. -
Right, seems Mr Flatfoot hasn't come and joined in this discussion he started within my 24 hour warning, I shall lock this thread. PM me or some Staff or another Fellow if you can really think of any reason for it to stay open.

Prince of Persia Theme Month Game: Day 2
Peppermint_M replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
What Chaos, I see the gentleman who had been issuing threats has had a comeuppance, even if it seems he was innocent all along. Tis a pity. -
Pontypool Tesco had a large amount of Toy Story RC sets at £8.98. I nabbed one for myself. If anyone is anywhere near that, go grab a deal (and make yourselves known, LUG founding could happen!

Mr Flatfoot, are you planning on making a reply or do I have to mark this down as Trolling? 24 Hour warning!

See the little Options Box in the corner of your post? Click it and change Display to Standard, I had it happen to me quite randomly the other day. Anywho. Welcome to the forum, I too seem to find something likeable in all themes. Enjoy indulging your hobby here

What do you mean by better plastic? The plastic is good quality, it just isn't as hard as it was in the 90s. However, as Shadows pointed out, they need to be softer so as not to do damage to the children that play with them. The USA is on of the most litigious countries in the world and if Lego wants to trade there without lengthy and large lawsuits, they have to conform to the myriad regulations applied to toys. So now, instead of tearing the skin of your foot on a spear (hurts like hell, do not try it), it will bend.
