  1. Ok, this is Seth (name on brickshelf was just a sub while i decided on a name). A warrior from a quiet village in the north. His father was a decorated member of the Royal Guardsmen, a Major prior to his retirement. When he decided to leave the palace, the king himself set him up as a local lawman for the village. As Seth grew up he heard all his father's stories of honour and adventure and thus decided he wanted some too. Not content to serve with his father and brothers he requested a letter of reccomendation to join the royal guards. He set of with his father's old uniform and his blessing. He wants nothing more than to be a true hero, proving himself in the eyes of his father and the king. This is a character I created for a story I hope to tell one day, there are several other characters I will feature here later
  2. I hope they fix Donna soon though. It was still heartbreaking what they did to her (even a lotto ticket isn't enough) and this episode was great. Had a chance to watch with friends so it was a fun time too.
  3. Nice Truck! I am so looking forward to this line. I have to get my MOCs done before it...
  4. Thank you so much for starting a thread like this! I have a whole load of characters, I never make a MOC without them. If you want a novel or two i shall be posting them soon
  5. Hello, enjoying getting back into Lego and finding the niche you like best There is plenty to enjoy. (myself, I seem to be all over the metaphorical cliff face, but there we are)
  6. I would like to go and check the other rooms carefully for a method to open the gate. I hope my necklace is enough protection considering all the chaos they are unleashing in there!
  7. The Ballad of Barry Allen by Jim's Big Ego. Good track
  8. To bad I got as far as the train kidnapp in FFVIII and then discovered I am so bad at RPGs that it is better to appreciate the pretty pictures (and characters...) before I forever taint them with frustration.... I would love to get the game, but I do not have a current gen console, so it looks like i will be bothering my friend who is also a massive FF fan so I can watch them play. Thank you for the review I too was somewhat puzzled by some reviews I came across. It also seems I will need to make some space for more action figures.
  9. There seems to be no way to open the gate from my side! I'm sorry about that...
  10. Next year Windsor! You all look like you had a great time, I certainly hope to make next years meetup!
  11. That is lovely! Looks just like the real thing. The colouring and details are perfect
  12. TRU is not close enough for me to drop in any time soon. Looks like i will be camping Argos on the weekend...
  13. You mean Miniature Figures? Enough etemology! Do any know of locations other thanb TRU? I wish to drop large denominations on these figures!
  14. Can't have, sorry. No11 MattSmith! Doctor said she was his future...
  15. Admins going off topic (in a way) ?! A Clip around your ears both! Nice site New Right, it looks very smart, also shiny and shiny is always good. Having your own personal site for pitures minus the OMG Roxxorz! of MOCpages, the nesting boxes of flickr and the scary moments when all looks lost of Brickshelf is a cool idea.
  16. He is fond of mind after death, an interesting SF concept. I certainly found it creepy. I didn't think they were over explained, just the added scary of their"getting in your head" (I was freaked by all the sand from Amy's eye... but i have a huge thing about getting a lot of stuff in my eye) and the whole image becomes them bit was equally scary. Clever, winking each eye instead of a blink. The deformed ones were just as scary, and always the flickering lights. I hope the next one is as good.
  17. It is useful for looking at what I might be able to buy. I treat most of the clone sets the same way I treat Lego I buy: What does it provide? Is there a cool animal or gear? A headgear or type of brick that I have yet to add to my collection?. Granted with some clones I do buy it because it is so flat out wierd, but those sort are few and far between.. I might try Cobi next, but not for a while yet, I have some sets to review now
  18. Why so optimistic? It will be very unlikely that joe public will have access to the tidy cardboard display boxes. As I have said multiple times: Very few small pocketable items of potential worth are left out for the unwashed masses to pinch from shops. These are Lego, already a gold mine (how about the couple who swapped barcodes and used the self service checkout?) in small, highly sought after items one can easily palm and shove down a trouser leg or into a bag? We know that none of the small local retailers that often sell trading things (cards, stickers, figures etc) like newsagents, will not be getting these. Only the supermarkets and toy stores (I imagine comic book shops might too) will have them. They are far more likely to store these under a counter, next to the register or behind the tobacco desk. My brother wants to buy World Cup stickers from Tesco? He has to go to the desk. If he were to buy them from the corner shop, he can pick up his own packet, but it is right infront of the till (cash register). I do not think there will be a chance to fiddle with, rummage, feel or scan/read a second barcode instore. Interaction with the bag will be limited to when it is handed over to you, just after you pay. If I am wrong, lucky you, you get to look like a right wierdo fiddling about with a kiddies trading toy... Lego probably has the second code to keep track of the individual units, to keep it from missing things. I assume they undergo a random sample for quality and quantity, so say a batch goes through and the random sample shows that 2 in 5 divers has no flippers, they will have to find that batch and those figures, to take them back (or you lot will whine about it and talk about betrayal by TLG) and the second barcodes will help with that. Besides that, they want no one figure to be rare, so how better to check quantities than barcodes for each type of figure? (or is it designed for a rare/ secret figure?). Ah well, time will tell.
  19. Thanks Pi! I didn't have the resources for a large persian version, so I whipped it up after I bought the set. I hope to get a expander built ASAP, but I have some pressing deadlines and I lost today to a wedding (those things never run to time!) and tomorrow to a prior arrangement. Something should turn up soon.
  20. Johnny Massacre. Ultrasound. Good beat.
  21. I am watching it... On iPlayer. I am fearful This is so scary. All of them. Every single one... I watched Blink the other day on Watch...
  22. So awesome.
  23. Well, lets get all Meta. I was browsing the Best Lock website (and Cobi, I am tempted to get one of their lovely Liscensed Jeeps) and I thought it would be an interesting idea to review the website. There will be links, as screencaps just aren't interactive enough to be representative. Homepage Here at the home page we are greeted by a studded background with the company logo and motto. There are two language options, English and German. Selectable by country flag. Clicking on of these leads to the language specific index page. We are greeted by a welcome text and this wonderful paragraph "WARNING : By entering this webpage you risk damage to your beliefs regarding the history of toy bricks ! Enter only, if you can accept the TRUTH !" this is a great phrase, in my mind the person who wrote this wears a tinfoil hat and has an I BELIEVE t-shirt... The index has links to each theme along the left hand side, with business related links at the bottom. Interestingly enough, clicking on the Brick History button will lead you to a link to Hilary Page Toys a website about the very first plastic brick toys. Legal, Press and About us are the usual "bumpf" all company websites have to have. If you are particularly interested, they are not too hard to read. Retailer is a list of links to the websites of shops and the online shops of Best Lock stockists. As you may notice, this website does not sell the products. Contact Us and eMail are both methods of communicating with the company. Onto the products list! as mentioned, this runs along the left hand side. Military, Girl Range, Town, Police, Firefighter, Construction, Farm and a button marked More. Clicking More leads to their other themes; Space, Dinosaur, Pirates, Romans, Specials, ADAC, THW and second More button that leads back to the first list. The Specials are brick boxes and baseplates, in System and Duplo compatible scales. ADAC is a rather spiffy yellow coloured action theme and THW is a lisence with Technisches Hilfswerk. Each theme page has a colour coded "swoosh" (or variation on the theme) that matches the "swoosh" on the boxes. It seems to be coloured a default blue or the dominant colour of the theme. The sets availiable are pictured, one at a time. These are navigated through arrow buttons, if there are no sets, or only one, the arrows do not work. Unfortunately, the pictures cannot be made larger and the arrows move from page to page, as the pictures suffer from different widths, pushing the arrows across the page. Each theme starts with it's duplo sized brick and moves along to the System scaled brick. Finding the sets you see might be more awkward as it isn't an online shop. Overall, its a nicely designed website, sometimes afflicted with slightly clashy colours and vexing navigation issues. It provides most things one would want from such a site, but missing the online store part (probably not economicaly viable) the links to other sites that sell the toys are useful. Of the themes on offer, I like THW and Space (ADAC only has one set, so its not the most interesting theme) I think I will look out for these when I am on a clone hunt, (although THW might only be availiable in Germany...). Well, I hope this has been edifying. I will more than likely do the Cobi site at some point in the near future (it is the brand I see as most likely to compete with Lego well). I appreciate that I post a link to company sites in my set reviews, but that doesn't tell you anything about the site as a whole. Let me know if you think this is unneccessary, I won't bother posting another website review. This was all a little experiment I thought up, I have a day off, house/dog sitting so no toys and I was browsing the site when the idea hit.
  24. Well, one shop I was in was all for Cobi, the owner was actually on the desk and we got to talking. (After all it is found to be odd when grown women are buying toys for themselves). Not only is there restrictions, they have to wait three years on a list. So rather than lose custom and money, she started stocking Cobi and demonstrating it with a small impulse set.
  25. Most of them are ambassadors who are getting them from Lego. I have to wait a week for these things...
