  1. Our old friend Cobi, a manufacturer based in Poland who make some pretty neat sets and themes with near Lego quality bricks. This time I am reviewing a rather small set, a Small Army figure pack. I purchased it for £2.99 from an independent retailer in North Wales, after we had spent some time discussing TLG's treatment of the small business and quality comparisons between brands (I think she was somewhat bemused by my knowledge and interest...). As I mentioned before, there wasn't much Lego in North Wales, but there was plenty of Cobi to be had. This is the set: As you can see, it is simply three figures with accessories in a carded pack, like action figures and other toys that are destined for rail or peg display. The three figures are similar to Lego, their headgear, heads and legs completly combinable with Lego figures, however the hands would not come out of the arms, so I was unable to check if I could make the torso's combine with Lego figure hands The accessories are the best bit for me: Hats, guns, shovel, pack and a petrol can. All of them fit Legom minifigures perfectly and are the main reason I bought this set. Here is a better view of the can and the pack plus a comparison between the Lego binoculars and the Cobi ones. As you can see, the can has a plate base back, so it can be attatched to a brick or plate. As per my other reviews, Special Operations Quarryman shall model the accessories. He doesn't seem to pleased and is now rather well armed... Main Points The plastic is as good a quality as Lego, some slighly inferior molding leaves excess but it isn't that bad Colour is a near match with Lego The figures are pretty decent on their own, only noses set them apart from minifigures. Well, with that I'll leave things be. I have a few more sets in the que to post a review, hope this one was informative/helpful
  2. Some non Lego sets are really quite useful. I tend to avoid the Pro Builder sets due to thier price and subjects, not really my kind of thing, but the Dragons sets have great accessories.
  3. Hi and welcome to the forum. I noticed you found the Ladies thread already. Anywho, enjoy your time here.
  4. I bought two more Speed Racer cars on eBay the other day, so I have the base parts to create a few more. Watch the forums
  5. It wouldn't be so bad if it were not for the £74.99 it costs for a set that has 961 pieces and screams "poor design". When I can get the over 1000 piece MMV for £69.99, a fantastic and attractive set.
  6. Dear Lego Group As a longtime lover of Lego, I was quite shocked to see the price structure for your new theme World Racers. I have always been a fan of your shorter more "action packed" lines and was planning on purchasing all of the sets from this new and exciting theme. However, after comparing price to piece amongst these sets and those of other themes, I was disappointed to see such a large price, across all set sizes, for the World Racers product line. Although by no means will I not be buying any sets from the theme, my findings may force me to re-evaluate my planned purchases due to the considerable sum it would cost to collect them all. I do hope this will not become a trend across all your product lines as I wish to continue purchasing and enjoying Lego Brand building sets for the forseable future. Yours Peppermint_M (an AFFOL).
  7. City seems to be doing more Trains again, so I predict more train related sets. Possibly Hospital again (last seen about 3 or 4 years ago) and hopefully Farm expansion. Star Wars... Well, all that is left to do is Endor battlepacks, so I think they'll be for next year. Castle should be more for the Dragon Knights, what with their lack of fortifications. Not sure about the others, I hope World Racers has another wave of sets (at better prices).
  8. Apple For Teacher, a common gift from pupil to teacher at school. A visual cue that a desk is a teachers would be an apple, thus this minifigure holding an apple makes one think it could be a teacher. Possibly you have never encountered this before?
  9. They can have weapons added, notice the blue tiles on a flap next to the drivers seat in the Agents car? Or the Inferno logo on a hinge, these can be removed for ranged weapons, the bumpers can also be swapped for melee weapons. These cars were MOCed for arena racing, not a rough'n'ready rally, where weapons won't be noticed. I hope to create a boat, a swamp craft, arctic racer and dirt bikes for the other races, these are much more likely to have weapons, if I think of anything worth adding (caltrops, oil slicks and smokescreens all being more for the mind than the MOC)
  10. Thanks Fangy. Regarding the weapons... I do not like them... They look silly on the racing cars, so I left them off these. I know it is half the point of this theme, but I am much more fond of crazy super fast racing than of wacky weapons.
  11. Their boss in jail, no more schemes and nothing much to do... When a flyer comes through the letter box "World Race" it says, "all entrants welcome!" it declares. "Big Cash Prize!!" Off they rush to build a super car to enter with. Known for her subtlety, Dyna Mite is in charge of the paint job... -------------- The mission is over, what does an elite operative on forced retirement do? Hearing of the World Race, Charge ropes in the other Agents to help build a new car for racing. With Inferno goons also racing, things should be fun... I made theses cars so I could have more teams to race each other. I decided to theme them off my last favourite, Agents. I have plans to make a variety of vehicles for each of these teams, to race in all legs of the competition. I based the design off the Speed Racer cars, as I noticed one vehicle in one set was similar to the others.
  12. Ninja Entry (Build by Dunjohn) 1 Wrestler Entry (Build by 74louloute) 1 Clown Entry (Build by Jwoods) 1 Get my votes. A skyscraper for a ninja to be ninja-ing on was a cool idea and well executed. The wrestling looks so dynamic in th scene. Attractive build makes it rise above the others for that figure Circus The lively atmosphere of a circus is captured, along with a great circus tent.
  13. Thank you for the review. If you are having trouble deeplinking the images, there are a lot of tutorials to help here. Atlantis is a mixed theme to me, some of the sets are really interesting and have a great design, but others don't appeal to me.
  14. I am going to buy that for another Dina and spare me head. Teacher is a bonus. Looks like my legoland shopping list has grown
  15. I am sure I gave a great example once, regarding the design of the brick and why it can't be patented... I shall attempt to locate it and link it here. Edit Here is the post!
  16. Really don't care about what others think, I used to, possibly at the age all of you who are bemoaing mundy reactions are currently. These days I know full well that there are wierder hobbies to have and for some reason guys in what I would consider my peer group think it is rather awesome that a girl is buying Lego sets. I have helped explain sets to parents/grandparents looking for gifts and I have discussed the merits of clone brand sets with independent toy shop owners. My friends keep telling me to hurry up and move out so I have space for them to come over and play and as afore mentioned, I build most city sets with my mum. Dad sees it as a potential investment (having encountered bricklink). Meanwhile, my younger brothers friends see me as some sort of mythical older sister of wonderment due to the size and scope of my collection (adjacent to his) and the MOCs that array any flat surface. Remember kids! If what you're doing isn't hurting anyone, it's fine
  17. Box...Box...Box I must get a series 2 box for my big MOCs! Planning stages are in motion, now to camp my supplier until the series 2 box is for sale/pre-order!
  18. Hi, another 501st-er on EB Fishfingers, another member here is otherwise known as Pinky in 501st(if you have ever had the misfortune to meet him). Enjoy Eurobricks
  19. If you like this stage, you will love the larger one I have planned (a whole big grey baseplate, oh my) once I have sorted the conundrum of square bricks round shape and colour scheme decisions
  20. Well, try making it smaller again? When an image needs to be reduced to 42% of its size by the forum it is still kinda too big.
  21. That's a bit of a large photo... Here is a helpful tutorial on re-sizing. Just mentioning it as it swamped my (rather large) screen when it first loaded, and to load it can take time on certain net connections. Funny scene though , I will have to show my power miners mad brother
  22. Well, as an adult I can have any hobby I wish to have, so I do not listen to the small minded comments of others. My family thinks it is fine, although my father believes I spend too much time on Lego. My teenage brothers waver between it being cool and it being stupid/childish. My younger brothers think it is fantastic. I guess in the adult world, one person will spend £5000 on a marine fish tank and another £75 on golf shoes. Some will spend much money on a horse or surfing equipment. I choose to spend on Lego. (All theses are examples from my place of work). I have never encountered hostility towards my hobby in the work place, just amazement at what can be accomplished with plastic bricks.
  23. Indexed! Once again, thanks for the review
  24. Humbug. I have no formal design qualifications and a lack of portfolio. I think I shall have to work on one, just on the outside chance another opportunity like this comes up... Thanks for the info CM
