  1. Nostalgia is a deceptive thing to many. I have no such attatchment to the Town of my youth, it was a bit silly and full of odd designs and my few town sets were a small boat and a Police car and Bike! I think the cycle exists as research suggests that the market refreshes every few years. Kids 'outgrow' the appeal of real-life City sets and they move on to the role-play toys as their core toy. If you watch a child play outside of LEGO toys, often they do go from "brumming" their toy cars to an age where they set up action figure roleplaying games. I'm going to have to second a few suggestions of building your own structures, it isn't impossible. After all, a building is a box with bits on (The richer the owner/occupier the more fancy and twiddly the bits). A building MOC can be drawn from reality using photos and architectural plans or from observing the construction of modern buidings. If MOCs aren't for you then there have been enough buildings through the years that a quick search through peeron can pull up some instructions and a little shop in PaB or Bricklink can either outright supply the parts wholly or fill any collection gaps. A friend of mine has been quite successful in restoring his Technic collection to its former glory and fulfilling some old childhood wishes through this method.
  2. Right, good, back on topic so please stay there! I'm afraid this wave of Ultra Agents just isn't capturing my attention... The whole theme, while pretty nice, hasn't got anything that is drawing me in, bar a few hair colours and accessories. Maybe some finalised set details will convince me.
  3. Snake Cultists, yay. I love maching Ninjago with Adventurers and this makes it even tastier!
  4. Well, the battlepacks have successfully enticed me to pick up some Chima, probably before any sort of (huge)price-recuction. They look bery cool.
  5. Also, some clarity: Are you going only against business sellers presenting their product as LEGO as deliberate ploy to mislead buyers or will you also be targeting misinformed private sellers who have no clue what the bricks they are selling are? Are you only targeting bootleg sets, wherein the 'brand' replicates set designs, box graphics and branding trying to cause confusion with actual LEGO products?
  6. Well, lets be honest here, if you post a MOC it isn't just pictures is it? You have a title to the thread, write a little to describe what you are showing or what you were aiming for when MOCing. You might add a little story about the scene presented or a few short words such as: That is how anyone determins the intention of a MOCer. Seeing as we run the forum for the users to enjoy, that is sort of the point. For thorny issues then yes, moderators will use their interpretation but will also explain why they moved it. I've not seen that happen very often. If someone posts a MOC in Action and say that it is a James Bond MOC I will move it to Special where franchise and media MOCs not licensed by LEGO go. If someone posts in Action a Ghostbusters MOC I will move it to Licensed. If someone were to post a MOC of the Ultra Agents being like James Bond then it would stay in Action. If someone where to post the Monster Fighters acting like the Ghostbusters then they stay in Action. Again, this comes down to what the MOCer posts with their pictures. eg: "This is my James Bond MOC" would move. "The Ultra Agents are acting a bit 007" would stay in Action. When it comes right down to it, we are not trying to chastise users who post a MOC in the 'wrong'* place, nor will any Moderator do more than move the MOC thread to a better suited place with a note mentioning why they did it. We are trying to put the MOC somewhere it will have more of an audience and more appreciation, keeping it in a place where those looking for MOCs on a certain theme will look. A moderator will only take more serious action over a member posting things in incorrect places if they do so all the time or cause trouble over the moved thread. The first hints that maybe they need someone to explain the forum structure to them (sometimes a major clue to underage members, other times they just need the help) the second is a case of having a chat to close the issue. Now, I have tried to be helpful, so I hoped this helped. Little is gained when picking hairs though. * I have used quotes over wrong because it isn't a terrible crime, just a simple mistake.
  7. I could take some of those off your hands if things came to that And I shall now address the Dinosaur (and plenty of other issues). Action Themes is a hodge podge of crazy colourful and weird themes that are all tied together with the Action that takes place. There are baddies to chase and/or items to collect in such a way that even if these colourful characters could run around in a normal city, they are just a little bit beyond the norm but not quite SciFi. Johnny Thunder and his Dinosaurs (I like to think he was in Pelucidar or Dinosaur Island) Dino 2010/Attack and Dino are all LEGO developed. Jurassic Park is a License and thus belongs in that forum. "Egads!" You say "But where shall I post this elegant and finely crafted Dinosaur MOC! I have used the fleshtone figures for their pale complexions are more suited to my tastes." Well, I can help there! Did you build it with the intent of interacting with or replicating the story of Mr. Spielberg's exciting dinosaur films? Or was it simply a ripping adventure with oversized supposed-to-be-extinct reptiles? If you're going for the intellectual property of Mr Critchon and the films of Mr Spielberg then post them in licensed. If, however it is simple case of the old favourite of Stick a Dinosaur in it to Make it Exciting pop it in Action. The same goes for any other theme issue you might face here. If the MOC was built to compliment the License and the official sets then put it into Licensed, if it is something similar to a license but was not built to work with it, put it in the best fit place.
  8. And, might I add, the subforum was created so as to keep everything nice and tidy as the overwhelming number of MOCs related to GoH were sort of smothering anything else! Heroica used to be in the main Gaming forum too!
  9. The game was so hard that I never got to see more of the ship! I should really see if I can finish it at some point...
  10. Impressive builds there. Now you just have to find places in a miniland to smuggle them to!
  11. Well, that is plenty cool! I shared it with my friend who is a fan of the manga and now he wants one! I wish you well on the Ideas site.
  12. Every adventurer needs a good and reliable car for every occasion. Gelert is one such faithful friend. The old boy has gotten his girls out of all kinds of trouble (and helped them get there too!). Fully equipped with everything they could need while out in the wilds hunting for history altering finds and treasures of the ages. Hypatia is navigating the way with her map, glad that Eleri knows how to handle the world outside of the Adventurer's Institute archives and library. (More on these two at a later date).
  13. Well, I have loved Zoids nearly as long as I have loved LEGO. This is the latest creation from the fusion of these loves. I loved the look of the Hero Factory parts once I had a go at them and after a lot of trail and error I managed to create this Heroic Zaber. A mixture of regular technic, some basic LEGO clips/pins etc and plenty of *pleasepleasepleasework* resulted in my (so far) greatest success. I styled this one after the stalwart Zaber type Zoids as they are my favourite (Up the Empire!). I should have some close-ups to parts once I can get Brickshelf to work for me...
  14. Staff select what gets posted on the front page. If a MOC attracts a lot of attention or is very good, a member of staff will frontpage it. Exciting news brought by regular members and official news from LEGO or other sources is sent to the staff in some form to be posted. We create contests and other giveaways and give them some time to be publicised. As for different backdrops, many people use Photoshop or other photo editing software.
  15. Fine, for about ten years now the whole collection is in the loft away from natural light, so no UV. The already aged bricks are no worse and I am careful to avoid print damage. The worst that I have to contend with is a little (very weak) salt from our Victorian bricks and mortar house. It is only as bad as dust really.
  16. That must have been great! Not only are foundation ceremonies something interesting to be involved with/witnessing but the LEGO House one. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Now there is something to do with those things! The building itself looks very Edwardian and the detail inside is lovely. But the Chima trikes are very clever.
  18. Yay, you return!
  19. Well, I had a good look through all my resources and it doesn't look like there is. The arms are relatively new as they're from the CMFs. Maybe there will be one in future.
  20. That is why the "baddies" are non-humans these days, to set the good guys against anything else would open a whole stack of worm-cans. However one could also blame the source material and history itself, we are more sensitive today. (For better or worse, but still). I'm liking all this love for Adventurers though, I might have to capitalise on this to get Action more action so to speak.
  21. Sometimes I wish I could have one of those Non-jobs, I often recall my English teacher ranting passionately about columnists amd other feature writers (oh, her envy was great) and can seee where she is coming from when I trudge along my 37 hour work week wondering if I could dribble some rubbish into a text file and get paid. Everyone is as creative with LEGO as they want to be. I am a MOCist first, I'll buy a set and dump the instructions into a file-box and empty the parts out to mix with everything else, then build whatever. My brother-in-law buys and builds Star Wars ships and things from Middle Earth. A friend of mine improves techinc sets to look/function better or mimic the real world machine more closely. My friend's five year old has Batman vs Spiderman X-wing races... Ah, I would so love to get paid to write nonsense.
  22. Crazy Train-man or Railwayman I think. He was possibly something to do with the LEGO Loco games. I think during his time in the sun I was dedicated to Adventurers ... ------ Wait, I had a look He is Super Station-Master and yes indeed, 1998 was the year Adventurers debuted! And is his awesome heroics!
  23. Ah, but steampunk would then slide it off to Sci Fi, sadly. A super hero team would be pretty fun. I used to fig-barf the odd team when I was younger. We could get a return of : Best Superhero ever, (even if he sort of looks like a mustachioed streaker with a cape, mask and hat...)
  24. You could also try phoning if you want some more immediate information.
  25. Just going to have to jump in and say that Cardiff LEGO store is staffed by some pretty lovely folks who have only ever been nice and helpful and willing to strike up conversations. I really enjoy visting it and not just for the LEGO. My last haul was boring, I got a large cup full of yellow 1x2 bricks for internal structure, a few planned Fabuland builds and I sort of want to take a try at building a Pikachu....
