Why did lego replace the hinge system?
Peppermint_M replied to mapimi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep, those old hinge parts worked through a lot of stress on the element that wore it down very quickly. The hinges stop working, which is frustrating for a cockpit canopy or hold door sort part of construction but really a disaster for wings and flaps. While the new ones are not as pretty, they are very functional. -
The Phantom Cat is a custom car that some ill gotten gains purchased for Ms Sinister. It can outpace her brother's jalopy, so that little sibling rivalry is solved. Racing against the Baron is an extra thrill, never mind the goodie-twoshoes out there. Whether escaping the scene of a "unpermitted, permenant loan" or getting away quickly from a dig site, the Phantom Cat has you covered. Not a refresh of an original LEGO set really, I just love building cars out of LEGO. This little number was based in part on some experiments when building the Island Raider and in on the Sato-Mobiles that turn up in Legend of Korra (which I have been watching) because Adventurers and LoK draw stylistically from the same era. Alexis is on the hunt for relics and riches with a new look now she's not chasing down dinosaurs. Clawdette's head print was a good replacement for the old print, Wild West Wyldestyle's torso looks suitably fatal and Space Police 3 printed legs finish the outfit off. The Lone Ranger gun finishes you off! Another of my no original parts figures. I never had the minifigure and since the style change meant the little pupil detail I like, well, I had to use a different head anyway. This figure came together because I just had to build a bad gal! I wanted something that looks along the lines of a cat-burglar without outright using the Catwoman torso. Oh, and despite the glaring errors in certain places to remain nameless, she is Alexis Sinister. Not Sanister (sounds like a company that covers the refreshment of those oh-so-delicate disposal apparatus that reside in public conveniences). She is Sam Sinister's sister. It is in one of the LEGO books if you care to look it up.

The least LEGO-like line?
Peppermint_M replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'd have to go with Clickets, they were marketed more as a jewellry craft set than as a LEGO product. Though I do think there are a few connectivity methods that means the charms and beads can combine with regular LEGO. -

Well, cheers for that then. Such is the wonder of Eurobricks though, all organised so people don't have to look at what they don't like. -
Help with identifying parts/sets!
Peppermint_M replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe there are issues with the part? It seems like something they would logically make, but it might be a case that the brick doesn't withstand stress testing? Or, there is always: "We have two kinds of macaroni brick, why do you want us to design, model, create and tool a mould for a new one?". Unique minifig elements sell sets to everyone. New macaroni bricks excite a few AFOLs... -
I am working on a tower for it to sit on, I have this sort-of idea/plan for a princesses layout that is a little bit MOC and a little bit improved playsets for any (maybe) future displays I ponder attending. So far I am on the "sketch" phase where colours and such aren't considered and I am working on how to build the tower.

MOC: Mac McCloud's Hop Rod
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It is from Monster Fighters, Jack McHammer's with the cyborg arm swapped for a regular arm. I thought the waistcoat and plaid combo was smarter but still fitted with the character.- 3 replies

The Hop Rod is a speedy ride, sometimes it isn't about the archeological process and research, it's about getting to the site first! Mac's hot rod Hop Rod can hop to it and stake a claim for Professer Hale and Jake. Just another little car build, I love fiddling around to make cars in the Adventurers/PQ style. After deciding on the hood ornament I couldnt' resist the punny name! My refreshed Mac McCloud. Equipped with a newer gun design and a smarter outfit. He looked little too thuggish in the vest provided in the original figure so I swapped the cyborg arm for a regular arm on Jack McHammer's torso to smarten him up a little. In my personal canon, Jake and company are tracking through Egypt when Johnny and his crew are in the Jungle. Hence why there are more mummies around and less (living) human rivals. The summer before a bunch of tomb raiders and relic hunters woke them all up!

No problems about the thread location, that is what Moderators do, Action and Adventure is one of the odd ones that new members need pointing too from time to time! I love making up lore for too, so I'll add in my reasons: It helps me MOC and make new minifigures to expand a theme. If you create a world the theme exists in, the original sets work as a foundation and expansion is then more coherent. It doesn't so much set boundaries as signpost a good direction to go and makes you think. Thinking on it then makes imagining the MOC subject easier. So instead of just a cool idea that may or may not work, you have something to build from. Anyway. Thanks for sharing this. Aquazone was one of my first themes when I was a small child and it is always great to see people bringing bits back and nice to know people still remember it.

Which forum does my MOC/topic belong in?
Peppermint_M replied to Stormbringer's topic in Forum Information and Help
As many as you can build? There really is no upper limit, only so far as your collection and imagination stretch There is flood control on the forum that might stop you posting six new threads all at once but we don't impose any limit to non-contest MOCs . -
It happened again to me. I started a project last night and rummaged out some seperators, old and new. They had wandered off just as soon as I needed them! The orange one unfindable.... Maybe the ones that wander off from some of us gravitate to those of you with lots, so that is how/why you end up with so many!

It is my hobby, so I build when I have a chance. Sometimes I'd plan to use the hour or so between returning home from work and having tea to build something. Sunday afternoon/evening always provides some good time to build (for me anyway) and the ever terrible weather here in Wales means many a wet bank holiday was spent building and perfecting a MOC. If you have other hobbies or time you dedicate to gaming or TV then there isn't much time to spare, but seeing as I don't watch much TV and rarely play games I find that I can spend plenty of free time messing around with my bricks.

Registration - Worst lego theme?
Peppermint_M replied to Kalais's topic in Forum Information and Help
Galidor is really the worst though. It was terrible. Even the TV series was terrible and the sets are pretty much the clunkiest. Jack Stone was pretty poor but Galidor.... eugh. -
Sen. Palomar's boat is lovely for smuggling artifacts along the river. Mister Pit has a good eye for navigation and the cargo will fetch a good price for no-questions-asked collectors. McClucksy is good luck too, or a helpful distraction to anything chompy that gets on the boat... Another Adventurer boat, again not a straight refurbished set but something in the spirit of the theme. I used the cruiser hull, not my favourite sort of thing to work with but the parts needed to perfectly brickbuild a hull weren't about for me to build with. The cargo crane spins and the winder moves the hook up and down. Senor Ekaitz Palomar took over the family business from his brother after the elder took to smuggling things slightly more noticeably illegal than jewels and artifacts. He's a sharp dressed man with a taste for fine gemstones and rare artifacts. I used a suit from the LEGO Movie theme for a dapper look, Lone Ranger Hat and gun to refresh the older elements of the original Senor Palomar and the Space Hero head, which always looked a little too smug for my tastes so it fits perfectly on this 'gentleman'. The sort of unexpected bad guy any adventurer might come across; a genial host who takes in the explorer to his fine estate so they might sleep under a roof of a night, then the adventurer finds themself shouting "IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!" At him as he sails away downriver with a craftily thieved artifact a number of days later. Mister Pit is a thug for hire who happens to know a little about river navigation and steering a boat. There is plenty of gold out in that jungle and he's happy to take some off the boss's hands for a simple river trip. Generic thug really. I made him as a back-up to any number of more talented villains. The schemer always needs someone who treads heavily and carries something smashy. And stabby in this case too.

A new thread for a MOC is a must unless it is a contest entry that has to be posted in an entry thread. New threads let other users know that the MOC is new. -

Well, Sci Fi goes in the Sci Fi sub-forum As for posting pictures, there are a number of helpful tutorials to follow. Also, in the hopes you see this before post no10: The New User section has all the help you could need -
Because is is narrower The front axle is 4 studs long and the rear is two. It looked cuter and worked with the construction methods I had in mind as I built.

Or with a (not so) price-cut! I find a lot of the Brickmaster books with their little bag of parts missing too.

Ricky Raccoon does plenty of odd-jobs around Fabuland town and his little truck takes him there with all the tools he needs. So, I just love the crate element. I love to use it in builds and when I got a lovely classic yellow one I just had to use it. The friendly yellow lent it towards Fabuland but I didn't want to lose it in a bigger vehicle and had envisioned it sitting above some little wheels. A lof of fiddling around later and I was happy. Thus this little truck was born

Johnny Thunder: The Myth, the Minifig
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Well, when you have waited a significant amount of time for a new adventure, a theme with vintage vehicles, dusty deserts and treasures to uncover is just what you want! ~Oh, another fun factoid: The 'hero' character of Dino, featured in the big box set is named as Josh Thunder, a descendant of of Johnny! Can you see the family resemblance?- 24 replies

Johnny Thunder: The Myth, the Minifig
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I did hear of Johnny Thunder being Australian, but I was unsure how global this was. He features quite heavily in LEGOLand parks and for quite a long while in Windsor the harbour show was Johnny Thunder and the x-y-z (insert artifact colour + animal/creature). A new Adventure theme would be great but I'm not demanding more Johnny Thunder or Jake Raines, new characters are welcome because them come with new prints!- 24 replies
