That depends on which boxes and what kind of condition they are in. Boxes for highly sought after sets in mint condition could be worth something, but beat up boxes for dime a dozen sets probably not so much.

That is nice to know, never noticed before due to the helmets! Which other fig(s) use the Toryn Farr head?

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
LegoFjotten replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I found the Revan figure disappointing, Yularen was very welcome! I hope we will get another fig from the OT this year. -
I'm a bit disappointed too since I was expecting the set to be something else, but to be fair: - this is the biggest & best LEGO Hoth playset ever released - the price/piece ratio is within the range of other 2015/2016 SW sets - it does add a reasonable amount of nice new figs for a D2C set If this set had been announced out of nowhere as a large SW D2C I would probably have liked it a lot more. Given the UCS hype I was expecting something with a more substantial and challenging build instead of lots of small elements. Lesson learned; UCS now has a wider meaning. ...and finally, to whoever wrote the first press release; You might want to dial it back a little lot to stay within the realm of truth:

You haven't heard about the rumored Rouge Squadron Hoth Assault UCS set? It was first mistaken as a new UCS Snowspeeder, but it is actually featuring a whole squadron! 4 Snowspeeders and 8 pilot minifigs, each with their unique helmet! Play features include lots and lots of flick-fire missiles and exploding canopies! Also includes 1 lightsaber, 1 grenade, and 200cm of extra black string. 1502pcs, available April 1st 2017 for $199. Just kidding! I hope...

Ghostbusters (Reboot) 2016 sets rumors and discussion
LegoFjotten replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Looks great! The minifigs alone makes this a must buy for me. This theme might turn out pretty awesome if they release a full range of sets. -
If you look at the main Customer Service page, the heading is "Buy bricks"with detailed text "Visit Bricks & Pieces to find more unusual bricks and DUPLO parts". Using that link you can enter BaP without seeing the word replacement, so I don't think it is intended as purely a replacement service. Didn't they also change the number of max pieces per lot from 100 to 200 not so long ago?

Thank you very much, works like a charm! The problem with the self-extractor is that you can't run .exe files natively on OS X, you need a virtual machine or similar.
-
I'd love to try this out but I can't extract the .exe on my Mac unfortunately (tried using both the regular unzip and BetterZip). Any chance you could provide a regular .zip archive?
-
For those having problems getting it to run on Mac: I just installed on BlueRender on a second Mac running Yosemite. What I did instead of uninstalling Java / installing the Java JRE via Homebrew I just installed the Java JDK directly from Oracle: here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html (Installing the JRE did not work on my system, not sure why, it seemed like it didn't register with the OS, I couldn't run the Java command from the terminal) Just follow the rest of the instructions from the first post in this thread and you should be good to go.

You are responding a little out of context here. The key point was particular set. Changes in the production pipeline is not initiated by a designer wanting to put a few more pieces in a particular set. A change like that for a single set would be more expensive and not cheaper, just imagine the research, testing & QA work involved. If the (perceived) cost savings on packaging was in order to allow more bricks in the set there would be no change in profits either. -
No, it's the other way around, they produce a lot of what the designers want to use in the sets. Other parts have reappeared after a long hiatus before, so no way to say for sure. If a new similar part have popped up though... it might be reason for concern.
-
As far as I know nothing is produced "on the fly", bricks are produced and go into one of the storage cathedrals and are pulled out when needed. Not sure how the capacity is now (with the new factories) but I think one of the LEGO documentaries said that the storage was at capacity (at that point), meaning they needed to take out one color variant of an element in order to make room for a new one. I think Mark Stafford mentioned limited color changes in the Exo suit interview. It is interesting though, if you look at an element in Bricks & Pieces you will notice that the price often differs between the various colors. One would think that the cost would be the same, but it is not. I doubt the color itself makes that much a difference. Maybe it's related to quantity produced in that color. Edit: Found the link to Mark Stafford's post on the Exo suit.
-
Yes. All sets have a budget for the cost of the bricks. Printed bricks costs extra, existing bricks in new colors costs extra, etc. I remember an interview where Mark Stafford talked a little bit about how they tried to squeeze in as much as they could within the budget for the Exo suit, adding the barrels, platform, turtle etc.

I think LEGO are moving towards thinner packaging for all sets due to environmental considerations, and that is all there is to it. Making changes to a production pipeline is time consuming and costly, there is just no way LEGO would make changes to the packaging thickness to squeeze in a few extra bricks for a particular set. -
PLEASE NO SPOILERS Episode VII. Is it good?
LegoFjotten replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in Culture & Multimedia
For me it positions itself nicely between the PT and OT, better than anything in the PT and not quite up there with the OT. I agree that some key plot elements were a bit too similar to previous movies. I liked the first half of the movie better than the last half, I think Rey's backstory on Jakku was really well done.
