  1. I was thinking of another post with a bit more information (from http://www.eurobrick...c=100928&st=400, post #411) Q: Many LEGO designers render models in physical bricks right from the start, but you use LEGO Digital Designer ("LDD") instead. Why? How important is LDD for set development in general nowadays? Hans: Every designer has his/her own way of working, but later in the development process we all have to "go digital" anyway. I prefer to do so right from the start because it offers many advantages. Building is a lot quicker, changes can be applied (and, if neccessary, reversed) much faster. I don't have to build a fleet of slightly different physical copies, and I am always in control of my budget and which types of elements I use. Slave One looked pretty much the same as the final product after one or two weeks already. I also enjoy working with LDD, although I miss some functionality our internal LEGO developing tools have (like grouping of elements, or moving elements in a controlled fashion).
  2. I think it depends on the designer / model what is built first. Seem to recall BrickCommander post he built the UCS Slave 1 digital model before the physical model, along with a few comments on why he choose to work that way.
  3. At that price, I would probably have cleaned out the shelf...
  4. Sorry if this is a stupid question; I see the download file is an .exe file - is your mod Windows only, or is that just an installer?
  5. Need to see some high res photos of this before I know what to make of this. Not exactly blown away by that huge studded wall staring me in the face.
  6. I tried Bluerender briefly today on one of my Macs, worked great!
  7. Just did a quick test on my Mac and got it running, cool! I'm gonna have to play around with this a bit.
  8. I do think they are looking for fresh ideas. It's just that most of the submissions are not fresh ideas, but MOCs or wishlist products for existing licenses.
  9. I will buy this set even though it is disappointing to get only a small Cloud City set after such a long wait. At least we can cross one minifigure of the list with the Ugnaught, and we can always hope that the existence of that Ugnaught mould will increase the chances of a bigger Cloud City set in the future.
  10. I don't buy sets as an investment. Usually when you can read articles in mainstream media about good investment opportunities it means they are already over and you missed it. Why do you think TFA and The LEGO Movie would be good options? Those sets must have been produced in really high numbers. I think exclusives and Ideas sets would be better as an investment (I'm not a collector though).
  11. I'm guessing the "misc" licensed slots are currently occupied by Jurassic World and Scooby Doo plus the upcoming Angry Birds theme. Not sure how long JW and Scooby Doo will stick around though. Haven't heard anything about other new licensed themes yet. Edit: Oh, and I generally like the licensed sets (historical and otherwise) too, mostly for the minifigs and unique pieces.
  12. Pick-a-brick has a very limited part selection so you won't find everything you need there. I would recommend waiting until Bricks & Pieces is back online sometime after new years and check pieces & prices there, they will probably have a lot of the pieces. I can guarantee you won't be able to buy all parts there though, so if you want to "Bricklink" it you will need to order from multiple shops, which will make shipping costs a factor pretty quickly. What do you consider outrageously expensive? The Bricklink prices doesn't seem out of the ordinary for retired sets, it will probably cost more to buy the pieces than buy a used set.
  13. If you are just working in LDD, modular floors is probably easier. Just create a group for each floor and it will very easy to select the various floors. Just keep in mind that when you make changes to a floor you update the group.
  14. It will probably depend on how you want to use it, for display only or for play. I think hinges would work better if you want playability, or you can even consider the "open back" route like Tower of Orthanc. I would recommend using the groups feature in LDD though, it will make it much easier for you to work with the model.
  15. Nice, I won something! Thanks for the awesome raffle CopMike!
  16. I love that we are getting a new UCS Snowspeeder! It is one of my favourite designs from the OT (along with the Imperial Shuttle & Slave 1), and it's just the right size for a nicely designed & highly detailed UCS model.
  17. Just noticed the there are two sets with arm printing (Winter Soldier), and one set with a figure with dual molded arms among the 2016 Superheroes sets.
  18. I think the poll doesn't include the right questions to be useful in arriving at good conclusion. Q1) The questions fails to take production capacity into account (which Lyichir explains really well) Q2) One or more exclusive minifigure(s) will increase the incentive to buy any set. I don't find it strange that LEGO chooses to go "all in" on their most exclusive products that are produced in much smaller quantities. You will find exclusive minifigures in sets at all price levels too. Q3) At the moment the issue is probably capacity so it doesn't really matter what we all think about the cost of arm printing. For reference, on Bricks & Pieces a torso with arm printing costs 3x more than a regular torso, while front/back printed torsos costs the same as unprinted torsos. I think we will see a lot more arm printing and dual molded fig parts in the future once the new factories are in full production and capacity is up. Just take a look at the various dual molded helmets, they are already making their way into regular sets at all price levels. Don't be surprised if it takes several years for arm printing to be the new standard though. I am 100% sure there is no ill-will or evil master plan from LEGO to conquer our wallets using tactical arm-printing.
  19. If you mean that the set was missing pieces when you bought it LEGO service will send them to you free of charge. If you mean that they are missing because you lost them yourself you will need to buy new ones (he regular Bricks & Pieces will be back online early next year, and it shows the prices).
  20. As someone who usually goes to 2D screenings and saw TFA in 3D I must say this is the best 3D I've seen at a regular cinema to date. Usually whenever I see a 3D movie I fret about subtitles at a depth that is very tiring for the eyes, scenes that fall together because they try to throw too much at you (breaking the illusion), as well as scenes where everything looks like miniatures. I had perfect seats which might have helped, but I'm actually considering seeing it in 3D the second time around - never though that would happen.
  21. Nope. Already seen the movie so there is nothing to spoil.
  22. Right, better get going, movie starts in 30 minutes! Edit: Back from the cinema. Won't spoil anything, just say that i liked the movie! As a frame of reference, I love the OT / dislike the PT.
  23. I think that is right Robianco. The torsos are mostly similarly priced as long as they don't have arm printing. Since there are slight variations in price from torso to torso I suspect the B&P price is calculated automatically with some factor based on the internal "cost" of a piece that LEGO operates with.
  24. Yup, chalet 4 is fine.
