How did Lego become a gender battleground

Yup, women's right to vote sure was a regretable feminist achievement. Every woman I know feel very unhappy about that. Amongst other things. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
bjorn77 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The modulars generates a lot of attention to the LEGO brand though, so they're a good marketing point, especially toward AFOL. But I too doubt the actual sales of the sets are very profitable. -
Too bad. They are way too complex to build based on the pictures alone.

Does Mugen have instructions for his alternate models? Some them looks awesome, especially the ones for Town Hall.

Will you do some ratings once you've reviewed all the modulars? It would be interesting to see you compare them to each other after building them in sequence like you do.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

For me, the issue with Palace Cinema is its different style. It's too much hollywood kitch for my likings. None of the other buildings would be completely out of place in a European city. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

TLG will continue to produce the series as long as it is profitable. But as you say - sooner or later they will run out of unique themes, and they will have to somewhat repeat themselves. Each set needs a uniqueness and exclusiveness in order to be attractive. I would also claim that with more and more modulars released, people will become more picky, since there's more to compare with, and more to choose from. Myself, I will never have room to display even ten buildings at once. So why would I feel the need to buy a subpar modular? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
bjorn77 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The whole point with the 1x4 plates with two studs is that they should always come off at the top, as it is only two studs compared to four attached to the bottom. With a regular 1x2 plate, it will be completely random whether it will come loose at the top or bottom. There's no modified 1x4 plates in tan, so for GE I'm using two regular 1x2 plates to attach the second and third floor plus the third floor and roof. I'm putting tiles around the two small plates so that they won't come off as easily. That way, 9/10 times, they come loose at the right place. :) -

My point exactly. I think I will mod my GE by adding a couple of 1x4 plates with two studs between each floor. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
bjorn77 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I just finished building Grand Emporium today and the floors just lie on top of each other, not secured by any studs. Is this the case for all older modulars, did they start attaching the floors by a few studs from Pet Shop and onward? Also, do you modify your older modulars to attach the floors better? I feel it's a bit flimsy and fragile with no studs attached... On another note: I realized the street light for Parisian Reastaurant stands on a 2x2 plate, while the street lights in all other modulars are attached directly to the base plate. I first removed the 2x2 plate to level with the other lamp posts, but then I felt that it actually looks better with the plate underneath, so now I have added it to all the other lamp posts. How are you guys handling this "issue"? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I'm trying to decide which modular I should buy next. So far I have the Grand Emporium, Town Hall, Pet Shop and Parisian Restaurant. I'm not willing to pay the insane prices for the first three modulars. I might might bricklink later but I'm not up for that yet. So it comes down to either FIre Brigade or Palace Cinema. It is still possible to get Fire Brigade for some 200 euro, which I can live with (althought I regret not buying it when it was 110 euro on sale). I think the exterior looks OK but maybe a tad boring. The build doesn't seem very interesting either, with a lot of repetition. Interior seems nice with some fun mini builds. Overall an OK modular that didn't catch my interest enough to buy it when it was still available in stores. Palace Cinema looks very nice on its own and another corner building would be welcome. Price is also very good here in Sweden, where it for some strange reason is 50 euro less than all other modulars. However, my gripe here is that I feel the perticular architectural style doesn't fit in with he other European style buildings. Palace Cinema is the type of building that could only exist on a Hollywood street, or possibly at Disney World :P -
Yup, I was also going to mention the lack of steering as what makes this a non-purchase for me. Without steering, why even bother with moving wheels?

The barrels gives the mech a touch of steampunk that I'm not fond of. I'm also not convinced by the lower part of the legs. But all things considered it seems like a decent set. For people who wishes the space turtle would come in a poly bag, you can bricklink an army of turtles for next to nothing. At least if you skip the silver.

The rear is rounder on the real model, sure. But the biggest grippe I have with the Lego model is the straight body, it should lean inwards. This looks more like the square body of jeep, judging by the pictures. I hope it looks less so when actually built. Either way, I know I can't stop myself from buying a copy. And doing the cab mod would eliminate the issue I have with the body. Oh, and excellent review by the way!

Built the set this week and I gotta say both the exterior and interior detail is unpreceeded in this series. It puts all other modulars to shame, especially when displayed together. I really hope TLG continues this track - I'd much rather have slightly smaller buidlng with lots on detail than big empty shells (like Town Hall).

I really like it. Especially the corner windows. Not sure about the red bricks around the windows and the grey plates on the top floor. But other than that I dig the dark color theme. Insides look superb! Do you have pictures of the back of the building?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
bjorn77 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I bought MISP copies of GE and TH on bricklink the other day. 150 euro each + a total 35 euro in shipping. It's almost 100 euro less than if I would have bought them at retail price here in Sweden. Thank god for Bricklink and the European free trade union. :) -
Ha ha! Note taken :)

Thanks for the suggestions! As arator pointed out,the car cannot be too big. I think I'll go with EvMan's suggestion and bricklink and mod the car from 7635.

Hi,I am planning to build BrickCityDepot's modular consulate, which is an alternative model for the Town Hall: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/318079 It has a parking lot, and I obviously need to build a fitting car for this purpose; I guess a black BMW or Mercedes or similar :). I have browsed through all available Town/City sets but haven't seen anything appropriate. Can anyone recommend such a car from an official set or a MOC (with available instructions + parts list)? It must be in modular / minifig scale.

Does anyone kow who this guy, "Mugen", is, who made this alternate hotel version of the town hall? I'd love to know if there's building instructions for it. I'd gladly pay a few bucks. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=539095 -

It is indeed an expensive set, I agree with that but I still think it's worth the money. I'm sure you can find a set without the minifigs on bricklink. Personally, I actually prefer the old minifig versions. They feel more legoey to me. I do mix them with figs from newer sets though, to extend the crew.
