  1. My Brick Bank arrived today (lucky coincidence that I was working from home and could receieve it!). I have a feeling it will be too high if I add an extra floor (even without the arches). It would be significantly higher than Town Hall (not considering the clock tower). I'll start with building the original model and then we'll see what to do next, if anything. Oh yeah, I also got Admiral Yularen instead of a Nexo Knights starter set. Not that I complain, I have saved a seat for him in my Death Star :).
  2. 9 9 10 5 2 No love for the the awesome little train station/platform (9)? It's perfect in my eyes :)
  3. I just want to add one more floor. Not sure I am prepared to buy one more set though. Maybe I'll bricklink instead.
  4. White looks much better IMO. Especially fot variation.
  5. I have the last three Winter Village sets and I am considering purchasing the 10229 Cottage too. At €150, it is actually not more expensive than your average Star Wars set, if you only consider price/piece count. Would you say it's worth the money? It does look like a really good set...
  6. Thanks for a nice review. I am building it as we speak, and I like it so far. Since I didn't have the old one, I can't complain.
  7. I'll with a judgement until I've seen the interior, but my initial feeling is that I'd rather buy two Brick Banks instead.
  8. But why no designer video yet? Pretty strange...
  9. If they did a full height wall, a normal sized adult hand wouldn't fit in the laundymat. I think it's an excellent design choice. The building itself looks fantastic and really full of life. I can easily picture it in a busy street. Should be easy to add a third floor for those who wants that too. But I am perfectly happy with the size.
  10. Love this MOC! i can't pinpoint exactly what It is that attracts me, maybe that there's nothing overly complicated with it. It just looks perfect. And the fact that it makes want to be in that scene myself. :)
  11. 14 new pages since I last checked this thread and yet nothing of interest. Now where is the UCS Hoth news?
  12. I built this set yesterday and I agree with what many said before me - the main attraction is the build itself. Some ingenious techniques only matched by a few of the modular buildings. Very fun build! The model itself looks pretty good when finished, better than on pictures. It's a bit blocky of course, and there's room for improvement; the bulky spoiler wing could easily have been made slimmer, for example. I I think because the front is bulkier than on the the actual car, it looks shorter and a little out of proportion. But overall, it looks good and relatively true to the original. The biggest flaw is the extensive use of stickers. I can live with the logotypes being stickers, but the rest is annoying. The stickers for the popup headlights are awful, and same goes for the air intakes on the top. A pitty since the brick built intakes on the front-top and sides are excellent. All in all, I give it an 8.5/10. Better than the Mini but not quite as good as the camper van. For the next model I'm wishing it's not another supersport car, maybe a 60's or 70's American muscle car?
  13. While it does look very nice, it also seems to be quite a repetitve build. I will await some reviews before buying.
  14. For everyvbody who noticed the color variation on the medium blue bricks (1x3 being more yellowish than 1x2 and 1x4), I contacted Lego about it. I didn't directly request it, but they sent me replacement parts for all 1x3 bricks anyway. But as I suspected, the replacement parts were no better.
  15. If you start making the minifig faces really detailed, then why stop there? Why not make the figs more life-like overall; some kind of realistic looking minidolls? I prefer the abstract look of the classic minifigs with classic expressionless faces - they are simply symbolizing real people, not trying to be. You can draw a clear line there, but as soon as you start adding more details, there is basically no limit for where to stop. The fact that we are getting out of topic right now is a clear indication that we haven't had any exciting modular news in quite a while. :)
  16. I'm going to have to sell off the rebel minifigs and get an imperial crew for the Tyderium, but other than that, it looks like an almost perfect system set.
  17. Wow! Best MOC I've seen a very long time. Any pictures of the construction? I'm really interested in understanding what techniques are used to make a curved hull like that.
  18. If the UCS Hoth Echo Base rumor is true, we can only hope that the first SW UCS set of 2016 will be an AT-AT! (and don't give me that crap about the 10178 being UCS. It's not).
  19. Were those prelims taken down? I can't find them on that VK page...
  20. How did you make the tilted window? Fantastic!
  21. Parisian Restaurant - A combination of best looking exteriors and interiors makes this a winner. Really fun and varied build. Pet Shop - Great build with lots of variation and the 2x16 studs wide design adds variation to the street view. Fire Brigade - Good looks and nice interior, a little repetetive build and I think the final result is a bit overscaled compared to some other buildings, but still nice. And I like the fire truck too. Grand Emporium - Looks very nice from the outside, but the inside is lacking. I have added custom interior which helps a lot. The build is at times very repetetive and boring and the scale is the opposite of FB, it's just too small. Palace Cinema - Hideous car and I hate stickers. But at the same time, I wouldn't have wanted those movie posters printed either, so now we are at least left with the option to leave them out. There some elements of PC that I love and some I hate. It is really a mixed bag. But the build was surprisingly fun, and I made a few smaller modifcations to reduce the chinese influences in the architecture. In the future, I might rate this higher, I've only owned it for a few weeks. Town Hall - While not bad, I can't seem to love this set. The build was more fun than for example GE or FB, but the end result just doesn't appeal to me that much. Its symmetric, boxy look is a bit boring and it's too big to really fit with the rest of the buildings in the street. Would look better alone in conjuction to a square. I don't own MS, CC and GG so I'm not qualified to review those. Looking forward to DO mainly because of its assymetric design, which I find very welcome. Something that breaks up the "big boxes" look bit more, just like PR and PS did.
  22. Does anybody know the height of the DO? From a few pictures I've seen, the blue building seems to be quite tall, at least taller than PR (which means taller than PS as well). If that's the case, I think extending it by one floor will look odd unless you do that for all (or most) of the other modulars as well.
  23. The asymmetry of the DO is its biggest achievement if you ask me. I don't need another symmetric box like FB and TH on my street. Variety is good!
  24. Some adults likes to build and play, some prefer to just build.
  25. One nice side effect of getting a kid is that I can use his room for storing/displaying all my Lego models. Wife doesn't complain as long as it's not "violent war toys". Downside is that my (two year old) kid wants to play with "the houses" all the time. Takes some time to rebuild after he has played with them" . I'm starting to run out of space now though, even though the room is almost as big as the master bedroom.
