Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

Yes, the blocky head is my biggest grippe. I know it's possible to create a smoother lego sphere, although it requires more, thinner parts, and a longer build time. Guess it would have made the set too expensive and difficult to build. Here's one of my favorite spherical examples, the size is qbout the same as R2's head: http://www.glalonde.com/?panel=Artistic&tab=Lego+Tennis+Ball -

You people who own the UCS R2-D2, would you recommend me to buy it? It seems like a fun build of an iconic Star Wars character, but I'm a bit put off by its blockiness and narrow body. That's why I never bought it when it was released. But lately I have been reconsidering a purchase, for €150 it's a good price per piece ratio too. Please advice! :) -
Got the four OT microfighters. First sets since Battle of Hoth.

I just bought the 8099 midi-scale Imperial Star Destroyer and I gotta say it looks pretty awesome. I love the minimalistic design (and the fact that it's sticker free!). It's the perfect shelf or desktop piece. Don't really like the midi Falcon, but this is great, too bad Lego didn't release more midi scale sets.

It can open in the front to reveal a canon. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7319/8730048354_d5e36940ed_z.jpg

I'm guessing they couldn't pull off a rounded bow like in the old model and still make it possible to open. But I definetely prefer the old design. Will skip this even though it's the only summer wave OT set :/ If I owned the old model I might had bought this set to combine them into the ultimate sail barge :). The new minifigs are really nice.

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars minifigures?

Too bad TLC decided to swap the snowtrooper's white hands for grey ones in the latest sets. I had buy a bunch separately from bricklink. The all-white look is awesome! -
Well, if you have 20+ ewoks, then maybe that would make sense, but not if you have three. Also, the force ghosts plays a fairly insignificant role in the ewok village scenes of the movie. Obi-One would be enough. I mean, I wouldn't mind three force ghosts, but unless we get a whole bunch of ewoks, I'd rather have a couple more furries.
-
A UCS Ewok village with only three ewoks? That'd be lame. Should be at least six of them. And tlc would never put three force ghosts in that set. I doubt any.

As an OT-only fan, these sets are of course very disappointing. A sailbarge less good than the previously released one is not exactly all I was hoping for :( Let's hope for a 2014 with less CW and more OT!

No, I'm talking about a UCS style AT-AT. A bigger, more accurate model. Motorization would just be a bonus.
-
Which is why they need to make a collector's AT-AT. I can't think of any other set I'd rather have. And while they're at it, why not make it motorized as well, provided TLG can pull it off without sacrificing accuracy :).
-
Recently bought this set to match my AT-AT. I also bought a rebel and snowtrooper battle pack to complement with. Only downside is the updated minifig prints and grey hands of the snowies (I replaced them with white hands from bricklink). A Han Solo in parka would have been nice too. Snow speeder is good, price too. Overall a very nice set.

Seeing as we gladly pay some 30% more than Americans on every Lego set, I would say their consideration is probably correct.

I just gotta add that I am very pleased with buying the 8129 walker. Definetely my favorite SW set so far. Works very well with the 75014 Battle of Hoth. I did a few minor modifications like adding printed discs for knee and hip joints, making the hips a little wider, decreasing the back slope by one stud (visible in the 2nd photo) and adding round grey 1x1 bricks as bolts on the lower end of the legs (to hide the blue technic pegs). The model is very sturdy, which I really like like. The only slightly fragile spot is the armor plates on the lower mid-section body. But that was very easy to fix by adding round 2x2 bricks on the backside. I'm super happy :) http://s12.postimg.org/l98br8kz1/DSC00916.jpg http://s21.postimg.org/by5gyy407/DSC00918.jpg

That's a great looking MOC. I love the green water! The tree roots are supposed to be big, but maybe slightly smaller. I don't know, they look decent enough to me...
-
A walking UCS AT-AT - that would probably be the ultimate lego set, all categories. I probably wouldn't need any other set if that ever happened.
-
In the end I got what I consider a nice deal on a new 8129 for 1300 SEK, which is only 200 SEK more than it was retailed for here in Sweden (and the same price as the 7965 Millennium Falcon). While the 4483 has more detail and wow factor, I prefer the new colors of 8129 and I also feel the proportions are spot on. The 4483's head looks a bit too bulky and the legs are too short compared to the body size. The 8129 minifigs also won me over. Additionally, I ordered the printed discs for the knee and hip joints used in 4483 (but in bley) as well as few other parts that I think will make it look less cheap. Will post a picture once it's built and modded.
-
I doubt Lego will release a new AT-AT before the new movie is out. 2010 is only three years ago, and that was the third version. Maybe in a couple of years, if we're lucky. And in the meantime, 8129 is better than nothing. I realized I can actually get a new sealed for < $200 from bricklink. I will add a few mod parts, like printed discs for the legs, and then I have something I can live with until the ultimate Lego AT-AT is released :)
-
Yeah, but if I don't have sentimental leanings towards any of the two, which one should I go for? Is there any other reason to choose 4483?
-
For what reasons do you prefer 4483 over 8129? Although 8129 looks a bit cheaper than 4483, it also seems to be the most accurate of all the Lego AT-AT's...
-
Hi, I'm thinking of buying the 8129 AT-AT Walker as an addition to my (quite recent) collection of SW OT vehicles. The price for a new, sealed set is around ~USD 280 which is about three times the retail price when it was released. I've looked at the various discussions in this forum as well as reviews and it seems like a decent set. I like the looks of it better than the previous two Lego AT-AT's. Now if this would have been released in 2007 or if it was the only AT-AT so far, I would probably be cool and wait for the next version. But seeing that this is the third incarnation and released as late as 2010, I have a feeling I could be waiting for a long time. So what do you think, is it worth spedning the $280 on this 800 pcs set? How fun is the build? It's a classic vehicle and I'd love to have it my small collection. So far I have 7965 MF, 9493 X-Wing and 9492 Tie Fighter. All classics.

Thanks for all the input. I noticed that brick city depot are selling instructions to moc's based on the official modular sets, so you don't even have to buy additional parts. I'm gonna go for the fire brigade now!
-
How much would you usually pay for those kind of MOC sets using brick link? What is the average price per piece (I know windows etc are much more expensive than basic pieces)? I assume that it will be quite pricey, no? The official modular sets have a really good price ratio compared to a lot of other official Lego sets. I mean, if the official 2000 pieces sets are retailed at $150, how much can I expect to pay for a 2000 piece MOC?
