  1. Whatever is popular (especially Lord of the Rings, which is barely popular now), will not be when your kid is in pre-school. It's ultimately pretty irrelevant. If a name tweaks you right, just go for it. Lord knows, the kids in school eight years from now will be less versed in pop culture than you are. I really had a desire to name my daughter Luna, which means moon, and I probably first heard in Inhuman stories as a kid (Quicksilver and Crystal's daughter). Rather, I went with An (a Japanese name, and my grandmother's name was Ann, and also my name is Ian, so I liked the name (I)An.), and made her middle name Luna. It's not a regret, but on occasion I've thought Luna would be the cooler name (and she can always adopt it in the future). Rather than worry about the name you might have had in school, think about the name you'd love to have now. Who gives a shit about grade two. Give your kid an awesome name.
  2. It's phenomenal novel. One of his most mind-bending ones.
  3. Going through a bunch of stuff. I got a bunch of Uncanny X-Men Masterworks paperbacks, from X-Men 94-140. As much as I love X-Men, I'll probably never like any issues as much as that run of John Byrne and Dave Cockrum. Misery Loves Comedy, by Ivan Brunetti. Completely inappropriate for younger readers. More depressive than Kafka. More nihilistic than Nietzsche. Like staring into the abyss, with cuter cartoons. So good! Tales Designed to Thrizzle, by Michael Kupperman. Seriously, the funniest comic artist out there, with a surreal bent to him. It's a collection of one pagers, which makes it a less satisfying read. I may enjoy him more as a Tumblr poster. But I don't regret the purchase. Kupperman.
  4. The World Until Yesterday, by Jared Diamond. A solid comparison of the differences between contemporary states and tribal societies, and the advantages of each. Very, very interesting.
  5. They hire people from anywhere. If your portfolio is accepted, they will fly you to Denmark to take part in a workshop to find the best candidate. I applied a few years back, and spent a lot of time looking into the process, so I know about some of it. I know (through Eurobricks) the people who were hired, and they had beautiful portfolios. Really top notch.
  6. As much as I love content, I'm a little annoyed that current games are pretty much impossible to get 100% without a guide. I had the complete Star Wars saga on my Wii, and got 100% all on my own. I have gotten Harry Potter 2, Indy Jones 2, and Batman 2 since then, and in numerous places, I've needed to check the Internet for something or other. The games are good, but they need to be very good to justify me looking something up on the Internet. Plus, they added DLC in the form of suits for Batman 2, which is irritating to no end. Ultimately, they play well, and they drop in price fairly consistently after six months, which means they're an easy purchase, but I can easily say I found that complete Star Wars game a lot more fun to play through than Batman 2. They always come with a number of hours worth of content, so they are worth the ¥3,000 or so I usually pay.
  7. He was great. I was born in the 70s, which is say too late to see him tour Ziggy Stardust. That and Scary Monsters are my favorites. All the same, late Bowie is still solid. I don't remember the track listing, but he mixed up stuff from all the eras. He had Nine Inch Nails opening for him. It was a great show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outside_Tour Looking at that, it wasn't Earthling, it was Outside. I never heard that album to comment on it though. Here is a general setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/stats/average-setlist/david-bowie-6bd6ee66.html?tour=Outside
  8. I saw soooo many concerts. In my early university years, I was going almost weekly to shows.... Depeche Mode, Jesus & Mary Chain, Erasure, the Cure, Morrissey, Jesus Jones, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Blur (Modern Life is Rubbish), Bjork (Debut), Pulp (His and Hers), Oasis (Definitely Maybe), Weezer (Blue Album), Smashing Pumpkins (Siamese Dream), Nine Inch Nails (Downward Spiral), Flaming Lips (Transmissions...), Beck (Mellow Gold), Stereolab (Dots and Loops), Spiritualized (Laser Guided Melodies), Vaporspace, the Black Dog, Autechre, Speedy J, the Pixies (Trompe le Monde), Aphex Twin (Richard D James), Orbital (Orblivion), Green Day (Dookie), David Bowie (Earthling), Primal Scream (XTRMN8R), Basement Jaxx, Safety Scissors, Plastikman, Cobblestone Jazz.... that's off the top of my head, there were a pile more... To be fair, I saw a ton of crap bands too. I saw a lot of crap. I saw Menswear live. But I saw much of what I still like about 90's music live, whether early in their careers, or late, depending on my schedule. I saw as much as I could between 89 and 96. I never saw Phish. I was never on that many drugs. Then I just stopped going out so much. My only regrets? Not seeing My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana live. I'd love to see Phoenix, Hot Chip, or Vampire Weekend live at this point, but I don't see them venturing up to my part of the world at this point. I think I'd go out for that though.
  9. I wish you all the best on this one, Tammo. Your first game is always very special. I am very busy for the next two months, so I don't want to sign up for a game I can't put my heart into. Best of luck!
  10. Thanks for the game, Zepher. I was out pretty early, I don't have much to say, but Esurient: boo!
  11. This is a fantastic review, but I think it's an unexceptional set, mainly because of the subject matter. Despite a familiarity with Tolkien, the set just doesn't conjure memories with me. For the same price, a modular set does more. Regardless, the design and construction seem up to TLG's high standards.
  12. Sony + LEGO. What do you think? Seems like a natural brand expansion to me.
  13. Thanks, I'm Cornelius Murdock!
  14. The werewolf had said somewhere that he wouldn't be around to close the thread on time. I thought the days end would have some relation to the days start, as per usual in these situations, but that was my mistake. Hopefully that clears things up for you.
  15. Just for the record, for those who want some analysis: I haven't been lynchedin two years. I've played pretty consistently all that time, whether town, neutral, or scum. If I am playing differently, what alignment would I most likely be? One of those that would make me go under the radar, or one where I have nothing to hide? Basically, if I were scum, I would be trying very hard to play 'normal', right? Some food for thought.
  16. Were you keeping a spreadsheet with all the pills and who took them already? Are you keeping one now? Was everybody keeping track already? Sorry for being so obvious
  17. I have nothing to analyse on day one. Too early to make anything of anything. As for compiling the pills, less than half of us have any experience with this as a game concept. Those of us with experience know to compile info. But the rest don't, so it is important that we help them out. It is certainly more concretely helpful than quoting lots of people and saying "maybe" afterward. Usually, it's not until people start dying that we can read into what they're saying. When I have more to say about pinging and scum tells, I will. I think the votes will be cut off at the time of the first post, which was just under two hours ago. I think that's what the werewolf said. Meaning, all votes after Kristel's would be void.
  18. Well, is he town? It's a safe lynch, and to be honest, it's a funny one. If I can twist the rules, to be sure, I want to. It's more fun that way What will happen if the werewolf is lynched?....
  19. I would like to suggest that the pill list be updated by the players as it goes along, or that the host links the names to the pills... It's a nuisance for ordinary players defs to track it. If any of you at home are inclined to follow the pill list (which will help in the scum tracking in later days), copy this into a spreadsheet. 1) Hunter’s Pill Clanure 2) Light saber Pill Tammo 3) Big Red Science Pill Rufus 4) Infectious Pill Pie 5) Magical Pill DarthPotato 6) Cursed Pill Kadabra 7) Alto Pill fhomess 8) Pill of Valhalla Hinck 9) Riot Pill Pirate Dave 10) Pill of Insanity def 11) Mystery Pill adam 12) Mystical Pill trumpet 13) Bobblyhead Pill jamesn 14) Heart Medication Kovacs 15) Old Fashion Pill Fred Yam 16) Pill of Paradise Kristel 17) Rum Kiel 18) A Pearl Bob 19) Deep Space Pill LegoDad 20) The Royalty Pill PurpearJelly 21) Fairy Tale Pill Waterbrick 22) Pill from the Dickhead Galaxy Technic 23) Pill from the ZubZub System esurient In the meantime, I have no opinion on the potential lynchees. None at all. Vote: The Host (zepher) I really want to know what happens if he's lynched. He's a player, and it's not forbidden in the rules. He's daring us to lynch the werewolf day one. For some reason, it seems entirely appropriate.
  20. By the way, townies, we need to record the results of our pills. Start a Google spreadsheet, and if you have someone you can share with, collaborate. Scum are already sharing their info, and will know the good ones far quicker than town will. We will somewhat be able to track scum if some pills stay in a little group.
  21. Sorry I haven't come in and bullied and dominated people. I know I have to in order to maintain my image I suppose you could call not fighting with someone a form of friendliness. I would call it not fighting myself. I don't think we have even interacted. Folks are all free to accuse me if they like for not being myself. I'm trying to take a very different approach with this situation, though some of it is simply being busy. I would say that, yet again, in a past life I've been urged to rethink my approach. In this case, the result is that I'm going to ease into this game, rather than attack it from day one. I've surfed the thread, but haven't combed through it. Even the accusations with lots of analysis don't seem to be very conclusive. Nine out of ten times, I'm wrong with my day one lynch, so I'm in no rush to throw accusations out myself. Don't worry though, I'm here, and I appreciate the fact that if I don't fight or act like a dick, that is a scum tell on me for some people, the irony isn't lost on me
  22. I believe you believed that, but it was very much against my best interests to do so, since it would have made the game run shorter. My role necessitated a long game.
  23. Okay, that seems a given. Give us a scab, we'll scratch it. A loose thread, we'll pull it. An unclear host, we'll lynch them
  24. Right, sorry. Please ignore my post, it's irrelevant
