And those candles this is my favorite building in your city i think! I look forward to seeing it in its place, wherever you choose it will look fantastic!!!!

I take it the City Index has been abandoned?? It's a great shame if it has; when i first joined i really loved going thru all the towns in the index. It was a great inspiration! And i still look over it occasionally, even tho i've seen it a million times Anyway, just wondering

Looks great :) I'm not familiar with the Adelaide bus service but I'm sure it's very accurate. And dw, I always have an excel spreadsheet for BL orders and still over/under order haha! Maybe that's just me tho...

Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Oh you've given me so much to think about aahaha How exciting!!!! I have found a relatively cheap set on BL, so if postage is ok i will hopefully buy it when i get paid (assuming no one else snakes it ) but i think i will BL some more carriages.... I'm thinking the carriage which comes with the set would be first class, with the big windows for the high class minifigs to enjoy the view. Then the mod'd carriages with your suggestion of window swapping will be second and maybe third depending on how many carriages i can do... yes i did stumble across that post when doing some research a few days ago. So that will be handy!! Thanks so much for all your suggestions and comments. They're much appreciated Now i just need to get paid -
Yeah that makes more sense. I originally put it down to the fact that the sun couldn't reach the bottom part of the solution therefore the reaction was taking longer... But i don't think that's what it was now cos the reaction just wasn't happening full stop... The bubbles weren't appearing like they should when the reaction takes place.... I'm no chemist haha

LDD and Digital tools: When is a MOC a MOC?
timmyc1983 replied to pinioncorp's topic in General LEGO Discussion
yes i tend to agree with "omerai". A MOC is any creation made LEGO digital or physical. I only use LDD as a tool to help me figure out exactly what bricks i need to buy to brick build my creation. As mentioned, bricks are expensive, so i can't afford to buy more bricks than i need, but on the flip side i don't want to be a few bricks short of what i'm trying to build, so LDD becomes a very handy tool for me to use to determine what bricks i need to buy. But, when i save my work in LDD, i save it as "ExampleMOC", because as soon as i lay a brick on a baseplate, I am creating something which is "My Own Creation" In any case, building in the brick is certainly a lot more fulfilling, and there's nothing more exciting than trying to figure out where your newly made MOC will fit into your collection.... Just keep building i say, virtually and physically -
From my understanding and experience the sun quickens the reaction, and once the reaction begins you can't stop it. I used this method a few months ago to huge success with opaque peroxyde. And we don't have OxyBright or whatever the brand is here so i just picked up some other brand with oxy in the name haha. But i was stoked with the results, all the bricks i tried came out really bright white. One tip tho, make sure you don't make the solution too deep. You're better off having several containers with shallow solution, rather than one large one with deep solution... Not sure why but i had a whole bucket full that weren't turning, when i transferred them into several smaller containers it worked very quickly.... Good luck!!

Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think i would want to run it around my town a few times haha, i'd like to have power functions in it permanently but it doesn't look like it's set up very well for it... I quite like it altho i don't think i will build mine lime green I'm really struggling to get past the dark green and it's not like the dark green pieces are extortionate on BL, i think they're about US$0.35 each which isn't too bad for a printed brick of that size..... And now i have solved the carriage window problem.... I just think with postage to Australia, bricklink may be cheaper. The cheapest set within Aus is $330 + $40 postage + insurance if i get it. (Aus $ is about the same as the US $ atm, for those playing at home) Then the cheapest one on BL in general is $210 but is in Belgium so would cost probably close to $60-70 for postage + insurance..... Where as BLing i could combine postage with other orders but it would take a lot longer............... Bah idk!!!!! -
your cats sound awesome ahaha. I love cats. My cat jumped about 10 foot in the air when he jumped on my bed and it was filled with LEGO, i think he was expecting there to be nothing on the bed Like some others my rituals as a kid have changed somewhat since i've come out of my dark ages. As a kid i used to do the same as "naf" and pour all the bags into a big pile and spend hours finding each brick. Now i tend to keep the bricks out of each bag together, but sometimes find myself spending ages finding one brick. As a kid i used to want 100% focus on the build, but now i like some music in the background and will take breaks to see what's happening on Eurobricks or other LEGO forums or to visit the cat in the yard/other room if he's not sitting on me I also have a tendency to get excited about the build and jump the gun a little, miss steps or pick up the wrong brick cos i'm so excited about getting it built. I don't normally go for the themed sets so don't really watch what i'm building, cos it's all city.... I don't know what i'd watch for that....?

Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You're a genius!!!! I tried the purple windows first with a few colour combos but nothing looked right to fit with the engine, IMO anyway. So i moved to the green flat front windows as you suggested and came up with this: I think it keeps the classic look the whole train has while making it about 100 times cheaper :D Any thoughts/suggestions?? Or possibly: I think i prefer this version...... -

Wow, that's really striking in red!! It really comes out at you. Now i'm torn between an original dark green or a red one haha. Did you make any carriages to go with it? did you change the colours of the carriage to match? It's really interesting hearing everybody's opinions on this, thanks so much for all the replies :D -
amazing attention to detail! As a whole it is phenomenal but i particularly like the driveway and the sign. Amazing work! But the whole thing really is superb!! Those lucky minifigs!!!
-
cute :D i like the little scene you made too! Great work all 'round!!

I agree with RedHead ^ I recently bought and built both the Fire Brigade and the Grand Emporium and was originally looking forward to the GE build more and altho there are some great features and micro build in the GE (the chandelier, escalators and the billboard in particular) i think overall i enjoyed the FB build more. It also has some great micro builds with the interiors. The only downside for me with the FB was that it's only 2 stories, but i guess it just depends what you want to do with it. IMO they are both great buildings and good builds, and sit pretty in my town :D Your other option is the bricklink the Cafe Corner or Green Grocer. I just finished BLing the CC and it very rewarding and ended up being around AU$100+ cheaper than buying a set from BL or eBay, and it's very rewarding. I have made a start on the GG now too, but i will be taking a longer time with it as i noticed it's better to combine as much postage as possible when using BL, so i'm combining orers with other projects. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck :D
