  1. Not to mention Arwen isn't even a part of 'the Chase' in the books. She took Glorindel's role for the movie. I don't know if anyone else around here feels like me but I find that Gimli's torso is wonderful for generic dwarves. As far as a wounded Frodo, what would that entail? The same Frodo with a blood stain? He already has a face for it. Regardless, this is supposed to be the Council and Rivendell, not the chase outside of it and I'm glad for it. It is awfully high up on my list as well.
  2. I've only come back to LEGO within the last year and a significant number of my cheese slopes are cracked. The only other piece I have noticed having issues being a Gimli torso cracked on the side. The cheese slope problem is a nuisance but considering LEGO pretty well always gives you an extra in each set, I don't mind too much.
  3. Thanks GRogall! We'll be waiting with bated breath. I wonder how long it will be before Wal-Marts and Targets start putting last year's line on clearance.
  4. Just my personal opinion but the Goblin King battle isn't worth it's bricks. I wish I had a do over when it comes to that set. My plan is to finally sell off my giant tub of Bionicle stuff. If I can get half of the going price I'll be content and have enough to cover Orthanc. Do you guys think that July might bring an LOTR themed promotion? Do they often tie in a release like this one with a month's theme or not so much?
  5. That sounds so much more responsible but I will gladly pay the extra $10 to get Orthanc in July (assuming I can scrape together the dough). I may wait for Amazon's price cut for everything except the council set though. 25% of 300+ is rather significant.
  6. I don't like the combined gates either. I'm not going to be suckered into buying a second set just for the tower. I don't think that adds up to that much. It should be more like 360, under 400 with tax. Still, it's going to be an expensive summer.
  7. Monied interests? Intentionally destroy their classic lines? Bahahaha! I had no idea Donald Trump was such a big LEGO LOTR fan... I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings Geek/Nerd/Dork and would LOVE for it to stick around on the LEGO aisle but there is no way it makes it past a max of four years, most likely only three. Tolkien didn't approach his world like a business the way that Lucas did/does. The downside of that is he didn't even finish the Silmarillion (what he considered the most important book for middle earth) before he died. The upside is I won't be strung along for the rest of my life and I will never have to endure the equivalent of Episodes 1-3. There are going to be six movies based on four books for LOTR; the story has been finished for decades with a clear beginning and end. Star Wars will never be finished because the motivation behind it has been different from the very beginning. They will keep writing books and making movies because they sell which provides marketing and material to keep making toys. Even if this weren't true, your suggestion is absolutely preposterous. For one, LEGO still makes space themed sets outside of Star Wars 13 years after taking up the license. Second, why would they need to waste resources to cause old lines to tank, wasting more resources? The fact is, LEGO understands its customers' demographics; LOTR is targeted at older kids and adults and the Castle line this year is providing an alternative for younger LEGO fans. It's not objectively bad. It's just not what most mature castle fans are looking for. Otherwise, LEGO City fans had better watch out. It's about to be run into the ground to make room for SIMS.
  8. THAT's why I was asking for a picture earlier. Thank you GRogall! I'm just going to try and build a second tower rather than a whole second gate. Shouldn't be as pricey and will still look finished in my opinion.
  9. That does look better. If that hairpiece gets released in grey, I might just have to sand it down to fit. It does look strange to me from the back though on any character who isn't sporting a quiver
  10. I like your castle but it would be nice to see it from another angle. It's hard to see what depth it has as is. Also, I don't think the village made it into the thread unless the castle is also the village.
  11. Yes but a 'fitting' eagle would almost need it's own set like a Triceratops or T-Rex. I know the scale is way off but I wouldn't want to spend $50 on an eagle. At the size most people are wanting, a brick built eagle makes much more sense.
  12. Updated my post with some new stuff from series 10! I feel like this thread is going to get busy again in a hurry.
  13. I've just added some S10 CMF and Lone Ranger Minifigures. I'll be adding more CMFs when I get time to sort a bit. If you're looking for something in particular, let me know.
  14. Hahaha! The great Gwahir in a zoo. :)
  15. I agree. Using 'Woody legs' would give him the height he needs while also allowing for a little bit larger head/helmet with more details. I would probably still buy a technic or hero factory style Sauron if it was done well but not for use with the rest of this line. The question is, what set would he come in? They would have to release a prologue set. While I am afraid the odds of that are very slim, it would be a shoe-in for my favorite of the theme and if they also gave us a Gil-Galad, I just might die. Thanks for reposting that image 8BrickMario. I'd seen them before but was curious if that was how LEGO's version looked. Did they just put gates on the outside of the towers too?
  16. Can someone post the picture of the combined black gate sets please?
  17. I agree with you but they did give us a skooshed elf and plenty of kegs and bottles this winter. :) I think a Treebeard set would most likely be set when they first meet him and include Grishnakh.
  18. The last thing I need this year with all of the awesome LOTR stuff coming out is X-Men sets... I'd sure like to see one or two though.
  19. I'm with deskp. It looks like they found the cure to a terrible sickness. Very funny MOC!
  20. Maybe, I rreally don't expect re-releases of the sets though the polybags don't seem quite as unlikely. I think we all assume that both scenes represented in the polybags were going to be in the first movie. While I agree that the Mirkwood scene will be in the next movie, I think that the scene that the Gandalf poly was based on was actually replaced with Radagast in the first movie. I am not sure Radagast would have been introduced at all if it had remained a two movie endeavor. As much as I want more Mirkwood Elves, they'll undoubtedly be in sets this December and I would much rather see new stuff from LEGO. I doubt they'll disappoint but I don't know when I should expect to see or hear about them. There is so much to look forward to this year!
  21. I didn't know this. Do you have any idea how many?
  22. Is there any time that we expect polybags to be announced/released or is it different each year? I wasn't a part of these forums last year and I pretty well missed the boat on the Mirkwood poly.
  23. It isn't 'stupid' at all. There is a whole lot more to macro-economics than the exchange rate between one currency and another. Still, I'm glad it isn't more than $200 here. I'm going to have a hard enough time justifying that amount.
  24. It is half. I'm content with one since it won't be staying on display but LEGO is counting on a few people buying it twice. They even suggest it in the product description.
