Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
Str0ngbad replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Regarding the wizard's names, he had given them names at one point in his notes but eventually decided not to use them in his books. I forget what book their names are published in but Alcarin is right in saying it's not the Silmarillion, the Trilogy, or the Hobbit. Gandalf makes a poke at this in last year's Hobbit movie when he says that he has quite forgotten their names. When the release video got to the tapestries of the five wizards in the tower, I got all kinds of giddy. I'm still all kinds of giddy. And 26 of the new arch piece. 26! -
PLEASE don't ask them for more of those awful bald caps. They don't even cover the back face and I hate the idea of them for orcs. I too am upset they didn't give us a hairpiece but I loathe the goblin caps. Mix their heads and bodies in TLG but please forget you ever made those hat things.

FINALLY!!!! It's about the height I expected though I was anticipating a slightly larger, more expensive set. I have a minor complaint that we're getting yet another mordor orc without his hairpiece. They must all bald terribly early. I'm a little surprised we're getting an ent and another eagle. All in all I'm just terribly happy to finally have pictures to drool over. Thanks Delta 38 for breaking the news to me! EDIT: I just saw it; JULY!!! That's a great price for the piece count too.

The cheapest way is to buy the keychains. If the hole that's left in their head is a big enough turn off, you can sometimes get them cheaper off of ebay than Bricklink if you're persistent. If you want the skateboards like I did, Bricklink is by far your best option.

I know. The 'action figure' aspect of the company has become incredibly important though; arguably being the primary selling point of most licensed sets. I really didn't think he was being unnecessarily harsh. The post of yours that he was responding to needed to be answered honestly. To say that LEGO is biased against some people and treats them poorly because of where they live was childish. It's about supply, demand and logistics. It's not LEGO being unfair or biased; it's simply business. I know you don't actually believe sets are more expensive in Canada because LEGO dislikes Canadians but that's the kind of sentiment that was in your post. Now, I understand that you love LEGO as much as the rest of us and I also undestand your frustration at not having access to some things that others of us take for granted. I just think you got a little carried away in that post. As far as exclusivity is concerned, you're right about it not being customer friendly but it's an effective means of marketing a store and it helps LEGO make money. And ultimately everything that makes LEGO succesful is a catalyst for more sets and greater quality that we get to enjoy; and maybe... even new LEGO store locations.

Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List

+1 for Tauntaunwampa. A smooth and pleasant trade between Australia and Texas. -
Oky, that Hobbit one is the first one to make me laugh audibly. The expression on that clown face is just perfect.

Time travel is definitely nothing new to TMNT. Turtles in Time was a favorite video game of mine as a kid. I really hope that they'll do Bebop and Rocksteady. For me, they are the only characters I would need to feel like my collection is complete. Slash, Leatherhead, and Metal Head would also be pretty awesome.

That seems so counter-intuitive to me. Lucky for you, I don't think Amon Hen is a very likely set. It would give us absolutely no new charcaters and honestly, Lurtz is not nearly an important enough character to deserve an encore let alone a new print. With a theme that is so broad being covered in likely just three waves, a repackaging of the exact same figures is not a good way to spend a set. Because of this, I would think the only likely place we might yet get him is Moria (again) with the Balrog. It would be cool to get a set with both he a Faramir in Gondor but that reeks of my wishful thinking. I bet even Alcarin wouldn't mind getting another Boromir in Gondor attire.

I can't imagine there not being a set with Frodo in the third wave so that would take care of Sam. It's mainly Boromir that's hard to place. There are a couple options; the balrog as you mentioned and the parting of the fellowship, but not many. I also expect Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn and probably Gimli to be in each wave simply because they're more recognizable/popular characters which is why I don't see this wave as having 'the first half' of the Fellowship. I hope you all are right though as I'd love to get a second set of the Fellowship.

What I visited was more like a store. If there is anything like a theme park, I missed out. There are actually two stores; a small one above ground by a big LEGO giraffe and then the larger one that they directed me to was, I think, down a level. There isn't any dining facility in the LEGO store but there are plenty of places to eat around it. I'm really jealous. I'd do just about anything to go back!

I really hope you're right but I'm afraid it will be licensed; much like I'm rather certain the elf hair will be. Nothing for it but to wait and see though. I expect to get Thranduil, Legolas, Tauriel and at least one generic elf in the next wave; three of those might just be in re-released (preview) sets. It's surprising to me that Thranduil wasn't in a preview set or made into an action figure last year. The movie was originally supposed to end after the barrel escape, right? Yet no one began production of him for some reason.

Those three are good guesses for a new body print. I don't think all dwarves wore mithril for armor but that may well be all they use in the movie. Helmets are what I'd like to see most. I really hope that at least Dwalin gets one.

I wish they would give us a version of a few of them in armor(helmets) next year but judging by most of the beards they designed for them, that doesn't seem very likely. It does seem somewhat likely they'd split the company between the next two waves but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't hit all of them again . They're only revisiting the 'important' characters from the fellowship this year (unless a couple hobbits show up in Orthanc) so it doesn't seem like they're trying to take the 'half now and half later approach' with them. Their approach to the Hobbit may be totally different though. Can't wait to see!

I visited that store this past summer. It's definitely worth stopping in to look at. I picked up two unofficial LEGO sets there; micro models of the Berliner Dom and Reichstag. I almost missed them; I think they were in a display case just inside the entrance. Ask someone if you don't see them. They were very cheap and make fantastic souvenirs.

Those tats are awesome!! Your 'minor adjustments' are anything but minor to most of us; there aren't many who can paint like that. Thanks for posting your stuff here. I don't lurk much on Flick'r so I would have missed them otherwise.

You're right about main characters needing to reappear but it's a bit of a stretch to call all thirteen dwarves main characters. We'll of course get more Bilbo's and Thorins but I don't think LEGO will feel that re-releasing all thirteen dwarves in five or six sets is obligatory. Most adult fans of Tolkien would have a little trouble naming them all off let alone kids who are new to it. Beorn, Thranduil, and the entire White Council are more important and memorable characters than all but a few of the dwarves. The dwarves were about the only characters to build sets around in the first movie. I think the second movie will provide more to work with. I expect to get Beorn and Thranduil in this wave. I really hope we get Radagast and maybe Galadriel as well. At any rate, I know I sure wouldn't complain about getting another Dwalin; such a fantastic and versatile beard piece that will never be used on anything else since it's a licensed piece.

Question about LEGO customerservice
Str0ngbad replied to Little_russian_AFOL's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Do any of you know if they give you a price per piece quote or is it just one total amount? I need quite a few beards, helmets, weapons, and torsos and it would be good if I could learn how much they each are before deciding on a quantity. Should I just call customer service? EDIT: I ended up calling. Most of them were discontinued even though they didn't show to be online. -
The Orc Forge is only $40 though I've only bought one. Anyway, if the figures are all you care about, what stops you from doing that now? You mean that you bought Weathertop or Moria but if there was a $12 box with uruks in it, you would just buy the fellowship and skip the nazgul, troll, and all the bricks? In my mind that's apples and oranges but I guess there are at least a few people who approach it the way you do. To each their own.

I think the castle was $70 here but I have seen them marked down at three area Wal*Marts. The Catwoman and Cap. America cycle sets are both $9 now also.

Very few people would buy nothing but battle packs. Would you really spend $200+ to amass a huge orc army and then not shell out the $60 to get Gandalf the White, Gondorian Aragorn, an eagle and the Mouth of Sauron? Plus, Battle Packs certainly don't seem to be hurting the sales of Star Wars and I don't think a case can be made that LOTR fans have different buying habits. Either New Line is trolling us and TLG is restricted from making them, or they are missing a golden opportunity. Fingers crossed for next year.

^^ Hahaha! I too am happy just to have Middle Earth Legos but realisticly, I doubt it will last beyond next year. If it does, I will sing and dance. However the relatively short run that most of us expect for the theme is part of the reason some of us are yearning for Battle Packs. If we had the benefit of adding orcs and soldiers to our army at will for the next decade like Star Wars fans do with stormtroopers, it wouldn't matter as much. I feel like I have three years to populate all of Middle Earth..

There were more but they weren't widely distributed. Walmarts, Targets and such only had Thorin, Bilbo, Gandalf, Legolas and a goblin. The rest were at places like Barnes & Noble and of course online. Nothing like the flood of figures that were released for the LOTR trilogy.
