  1. Okay, I have tried to copy and paste the link, HTML and BBcode into the image box and each one gives me a red X instead of a picture. What am I doing incorrectly?
  2. Hey guys. I'm feeling incredibly incompetent. Could someone tell me how to put pictures in a post from the new Flick'r? The way I'm used to is no longer available and everything else I have tried hasn't worked. I have two free builds ready to post.
  3. I guess I wouldn't mind the Woddy treatment on those three but I'd prefer they were just done as regular minifigs. There's a point at which the toy is close enough and imagination can do the rest. That point is subjective and different for different people but standard minifigs are close enough for me. (I prefer the Hulk from the polybag to the set) The main issue I have with 'Woody legs' is that they don't last well unless they are treated with special care. When thrown in with other Legos, the two legs will end up coming together at the feet due to the decreased support of the waist piece at the greater distance. From a customization standpoint, a bunch of new long legs would be wonderful though. It's a bit annoying that any giant I make has to wear boots and blue jeans.
  4. Ska, If you decide to sell you could post in the buy sell trade forum here and maybe avoid BL's seller fees too. Guys, I love this tourism theme stuff. The builds are all beautiful. I promise I'll get to the individual threads when I'm on my computer.
  5. I have a couple of free-builds that I should get posted within the next couple of days and a Bricklink order due that should let me finish a third one. We can't let Kaliphlin bring an early end to winter! Infernum, I'm a bit jealous. A friend made me a video of the PAB there back in January and it looked incredible. I hope to see more builds from you soon.
  6. They are selling for over $500 on ebay regularly. I can think of a lot of fun things to do with $500.
  7. I believe he means the prologue to LOTR rather than the Hobbit. I really hope it is but there are a lot of things that could sit in that price range comfortably. In my opinion, the most incredible looking armies of both elves and men in the whole trilogy are found in the prologue. The only reason I expect a prologue set sometime is Sauron. They can't possibly end this line without making him.
  8. Honestly, I can see all four of your characters fitting well in any of the guilds. Your collection does sound more like Avalonia/Mitgardia but as others have said, you could still use them well in the other guilds. Avalonia and Mitgardia are very similar as far as parts go, they have more foliage and we have more snow and mountains. That ranger of yours would sure be cool in Nocturnus though...
  9. I wrote a reply to this last night but apparently I neglected to post it. The story is excellent. I hope DM's 'friends' are around when he opens your gift. I also hope you'll treat us to a build that finishes the story. Of course, it may take you a while to get to the party without your horses.
  10. Hi and welcome Grazingcattle! I'm a newcomer myself and am in the same camera situation. So far, I'm not terribly dissatisfied with my iPhone camera but a tripod would help my pictures immensely since it is very difficult for me to consistently hold it steady enough. That might be something to consider if you decide that you'd rather not sink a lot of money into a camera right now but would still like to take a step toward better pictures. There are a bunch of tips and a couple links here from when I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Regarding entry buys, I would definitely keep an eye on last year's LOTR sets. They will go on clearance at places like Wal-Mart at some point and most of them would be a good purchase. While the chess sets are great for getting a lot of figs at once, you don't see that many of one faction in a build very often so I would think your money would be better spent on sets with a few figures you really like and a bunch of pieces you know you will be able to use resulting in a more diverse collection. As Ska was saying, most torsos can be used in any guild. This works even better if you have a few arms in the color of your guild that you can slap on (a cheap and very useful investment on Bricklink). I know Kaliphlin would be almost as happy to gain your services as we in Mitgardia would be. However, to make a shameless plug, it seems to me that Mitgardia is much easier to build in with the most common colors (I still have so little tan/dark tan). I've heard good things about altbricks' leaves. The only negative thing I've heard is that things didn't fit snugly inside the holes the way they would on an actual lego leaf. I am probably going to buy myself a bag in the near future. I wouldn't sell all your Star Wars stuff off without a second thought but I'm glad I unloaded the few sets I had. If you had 100 posts or wanted to wait until you did (it won't take long if you get involved here), I would suggest listing your sets here in the buy/sell/trade forum. Star Wars stuff usually goes really fast there. Other than that and ebay, you can take your chances with Craigslist. Down here in Dallas, used Star Wars sets don't usually last long if they are priced under MSRP. I hope you can get started soon. I'm looking forward to seeing your sigfig introduced in the Mitgardia thread!
  11. This is perfect for me. My work schedule is crazy this weekend so I may not have anything posted before the party on Monday but I'll be there. The ship looks nice. I particularly like the figurhead. It's good to see a few Drow around. They give me something to hate. >:)
  12. I got two of the council sets on the first and didn't use either eye sticker. I'm thinking they could be put to much better use on a couple banners.
  13. Shire: check Rivendell: check Moria: check Rohan: check Orthanc: check Mordor: check Not to say there cant be more sets from any of those locations but aside from Gondor, Lothlorien is about the only unique location not yet covered. Fangorn is nothing but trees. Amon Hen is just wilderness. A set of the Grey Havens would thrill me (Cirdan is my favorite elf) but it gets far less screen time and a total of two camera shots. The more I think about it, the more certain I am Lothlorien, small or not, is on the way.
  14. I don't think casual fans know the name but they remember the imagery. Lothlorien was quite different from any other place in the trilogy and the scene at the mirror-pool is one of the most memorable parts of that movie. Its a chance to make a place that stands distinctly apart from the fortress walls and towers and the conflict they represent. Aside from the trees not being remotely the same as the ewok village, there would be more significant architectural elements. The only reason I could see TLG skipping it would be its minifig selection. If they hit Galadriel in the hobbit sets, there are no important characters the location would be needed for. If they don't give us a Galadriel this winter, I'd put money on a Lothlorien set next year.
  15. This likely will vary between stores depending on their shelf space. I know that mine often doesn't have a couple new sets out because it is small. They said it would be available either way though. Just over one week to wait!
  16. Haha, I love the council set so much I probably WILL end up with 6 of them! I bought two just on June 1st. :D. Gimli's pieces are all very useful for dwarves in general. If I could find someone here with a good number of Gimlis for that price, I'd buy them up in a heartbeat. As for Lothlorien, I think you're selling it a bit short. When I was talking about how iconic it was, I admit I had the book in mind. However, both the mirror scene and the parting gifts are remembered very well by even casual fans, far more than Minas Morgul, and it's good for Lego to diversify its sets between battles and enchanting places in Middle Earth. Gandalf arrives and the council are both examples of this and there isn't any better thing to make to fill that role next year.
  17. Lothlorien is important to the story. Though it's not action packed, it is an incredibly iconic place in Middle Earth and it should look absolutely nothing like the ewok village. This sits easily among the top 5 things I want Lego to address before the line ends. Plus, wiith that new arch and who knows what foliage, you are right on Deathleech: wonderful parts pack. I think it's sad you can't appreciate the council set Alcarin. To me, it's one of the nicest sets I've ever seen. I feel it's absurd to expect Lego to produce every location to scale, especially within a three or four year time frame, and I do not understand your sentiment of 'if it's not this way, none at all'. The set captures the feel of Rivendell well and there's nothing stopping anyone from making it bigger if they are willing to spend more time and money. I understand not wanting anymore Gandalfs but we all know there has to be one in each wave; the same goes for Frodo, Aragorn and maybe Legolas and Gimli. They are far more recognizable and relatable for the target age and casual fans in general.
  18. I assume you are being coy. I shouldn't have to spell out the connection between price and piece count. You may not like some of the sets that TLG has chosen to make but they haven't dedicated any wave to one book or movie; they have spread them out. No one is arguing that the next wave won't be centered on ROTK; only that it won't and shouldn't be exclusive to it.
  19. You used the number of pieces as an argument for not making certain sets. That's all I was addressing. I imagine we'll get up to three gondor/pelennor sets. I can't imagine there being more than four in one wave unless Lego does something unexpected like battle packs.
  20. They still need to fill that 20-30 dollar price point. Lego has done great job of spreading the sets around locations and movies in each wave. Don't expect the next wave to be much different.
  21. They could use Elrond's back print for the generic Noldor but Gil-Galad should have his own torso and hairpiece (his crown is distinct) but I'd settle for either of Elrond's hairpieces. What stinks is that this set would ideally have a huge number of special molds already: sauron's helm, elven shield, elven helmet, and a numenorean helmet. If we get a set similar to this, I'm sure that some of that would be left undone unless it is a $60-80 set. It's hard for me to imagine LEGO ending this theme without giving us the chief antagonist. The Mouth of Sauron being released this year also gives me a shred of hope that they might include Gil-Galad but I know it's highly unlikely.
  22. I know. All the razzing is in good fun. As a matter of fact, I'm going to try and send you a pretty decent shipment of beer early next week. When exactly is the party? I'd hate to be late.
  23. Having read through the wonderful banter today, it seems to be from both Avalonia and Mitgardia but some in Kaliphlin have been asking for it. Most of you are good citizens of Historica, friends and trading partners, but there seem to be a few in your midst who would risk the hard won piece for a little gold. I don't think there's anything to be worried about from Mitgardia but you may want to watch some of your friends near Nocturnus more carefully. They fly a Kaliphlin banner but it could be they bleed Nocturnian blood.
  24. Thanks Captain. That is just what I needed.
  25. Nocturnians (or anyone really), have the Drow ever been represented in any way other than with brown skin/ears? I want to use the Drow but those are not common pieces.
