not enough rally :(
750ACE replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Some are using 4 xl motors or Rc motors in the trucks. Dual battery packs and direct wired from the controls. Wish I could find a wiring diagram. -
not enough rally :(

The videos are sped up. -
Hmm.... when does the boss crawler release? Possibly that is the reason TLG won't sell the motors until June.

Can I quote my own post? LOL. Anyways, I wanted to clarify a few points so I was not taken the wrong way. 1. Dokludi - Fantastic job on both sets. 2. Davidmull - is right, the wheels are just messed up looking. Same issue I had when I built the 8109 flatbed, but that was still an awesome set in my opinion. 3. Online videos & leaked pictures - the sets look fantastic perched up on their stands at the Lego show with all of that great lighting. 4. I do not know what changed my mind after dokludi built both sets. I will probably still purchase them both due to the part count and assortment, I just won't be the first in line to break the bank. Overall, still decent sets and some fantastic reversible engineering!!!!!

For some reason I am no longer inclined to purchase the 42008 or 42009. Maybe at first the hype from the toy show videos made me want these sets, now I feel like I can wait to spend my money after seeing them built. I wish lego would make new wheels for this scale it looks weird. Good job on both sets!

Best Batteries
750ACE replied to MrNumbskull13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have had success with eneloop batteries and powerex charger. A good charger like a powerex is important for battery health. Otherwise grab the 8878 if you don't own anything else that requires AA. -
rc chassis for new hubs WIP

What do you mean not worth the rebuild? Hubs are the only parts missing from testing. Did you build one with the same motors?- 35 replies

I just received the rc4wd Rock Crusher x/t 1.9" tires in the mail. Since RC4WD is showing them out of stock and told me it would be a 3-4 week wait I ended up ordering them from Liquid RC off of ebay. I picked two pairs up for a total of $29.98 USD free priority 2 day shipping. Link below. I can't believe the high quality of the compound. It is very tacky. I did a test fit on my Unimog and they look great but rub the fenders a little bit when the springs are fully compressed. The only thing I am disappointed about is how the inner lip of the RC4WD tire is thicker than the stock Lego tire which means you need to tuck the lip slightly under. All in all it is still a very tight fit and way more aggressive and reaslistic look, worth every penny. Has anyone designed an adapter for Lego to RC rim/hub? Liquid RC ebay link.

Brickshelf vs. Flickr vs. Something else
750ACE replied to 750ACE's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bump... How about http://www.smugmug.com Someone I work with is huge into photography and recommended this site. I ran through the overview and it is extremely well designed with tons of options from sharing, editing, printing, video, security settings, etc. You can even setup a domain through this site. Anyone run into this site? -
I wanted to know if anyone has tested the difference between the following setups with V2 IR: Two XL motors with a (3:1) 36 driver to 12 follower or (5:1) 40 Driver to 8 Follower VS. two L-Motors with the same Setup. The reason I ask is because right now I put together a setup of Two L motors running (3:1) 24 to 8 direct output to an axle without a differential. It hauls pretty well. After researching more about coupling motors on Philo's website I am surprised to find out his reasearch shows minor advantages to coupling. When running a single L motor with the same 24 to 8 gearing I had less torque and top speed took longer to achieve. I am waiting for a couple of orders to arrive to test the various gear ratios and motor couplings, I didn't want to rip apart my sets at this time.

I just finished building this set. The frame is probably the strongest of all the motorcycle sets I've built from Lego. I am impressed how the front forks are attached so well. There isn't any flex or play in the frame. One thing I also notice is how smooth the chain rolls compaired to the 8051. I am curious if the new links are smoother and tighter and if my older ones are stretched. The wheels are great too.

I wanted to see how it runs compared to effermans Mercedes G.

Even if the servo is near the price of bricklink I'll still buy it from Lego. Warranty matters to me. Heck VIP points add up over time too.

Cleaning models
750ACE replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I own a dremel I never thought to use a brush system like that. What I wonder is how to remove scratches from bricks. When I was a kid I never sorted my parts. Now that I display some model team sets they show some banged up pieces especially the windows.
