@ key5277: I guess your changes are as good as they can be, regarding the non-existing elements in dark azure. Good job You should host your pictures somewhere else and post only direct links here (not bigger than 1000 pixels in width). Then we could have some better impressions and more detailed insights .

@LvdH: Thanks for your feedback, keep me updated once finished ! The rear spoiler on the real car wasn´t possible for me to recreate accurately enough, both in function and shape. It should move at least 1cm higher. Using big LA´s wasn´t an option because they don´t compress low enough. The feature I managed to replicate is the rotational movement of the spoiler while rising. An optional brake function was a must have too, similar to one of my other previous models. Axles with stop - maybe I´m using them a bit too obsessively, true. But they give a lot of fool proof support and add to rigidity everywhere. The adjustable suspension shouldn´t be overstressed, but it can hold some heavy torque. I personally don´t care much about slightly twisting axles, because it´s the application which either working or not working. It´s a heavy car after all and I needed to make it work in the motorized version too - double challenge I couldn´t solve better. On the pro side again: you can do smooth adjustments and synchronizations, just take your time.

Remake Edition of Laferrari
brunojj1 replied to terryli's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Bravo ! I can´t believe somebody has this kind of patience to even try. Especially regarding the fact this was a custom creation, having so many flaws, your result is really good. Thank you for your respectful attitude towards the copyright issue, let´s keep it that way and be happy . -
This is so unreal, it has to be fake ... But the level of audacity has reached a new height, no doubt. Remember the good old days with Aliexpress where you were waiting for months for your well paid article to be delivered, without any tiny doubt about the credibility of the "shop" @Sariel I´m sorry if it´s not funny for you at the moment, but we´re kinda in the same boat now . This whole Chinese fake stuff becomes dramatic and ... at least entertaining for the crowd.

Guys, the scarcity or abscence of one single piece never should bother too much any Lego builder. Be creative instead. Use the green part (unless your purist), spray it in silver color and it will look better than anything IMO. Or be creative and make your own exhaust, change and modify until you are ok with it. Just don´t make it like the clone brand - it´s awful! Our fellow and greatest Technic expert ever - Eric aka blakbird - provided some magnificent digital renders of my MOC. Big thanks and respect to him, because he is an artist like no one else when it comes to this delicate work .

Please don´t forget: I´m not the instructions designer himself. I have to pay him too for the extra work nobody else is willing and able to do. He does professional work and it does have great value too. Another option for myself: design exclusive MOCs on comission and none of the mentionned problems ever will happen again. People will offer me 2.000,00 Eur for instructions and I will say no again and again. Better: enjoy the hobby yourself, buy and build whatever for whomever you want and no posting on the internet. Sounds nice for me, seriously.

You really should have started the topic with this example ! Some 5 years ago I recommended to Madoca not to give away instructions for free, how great and honorable it might be. The stolen designs by the copycats devalue his models even more. I really hope this genious is not crushed in depression.

Good point. As designer I have to take that risk too. But having no trouble so far, the car manufacturers don´t mind. They don´t endorse or sponsor me on the other hand. Side note: Recently I was contacted by the race engineer of the leading DTM team. He asked if I could build one car for him and his team. Of course I will .

Since the story around my recent MOC was the trigger for the OP, here my thoughts. I was reading through some very shameless posts around this model at the „alternative“ community website. They were all German guys from my dear country, discussing how cool it is - the P1 being ripped off by the Chinese and how steep my original instructions are, so let´s share it right now all together. I wasn´t surprised by the "sporty" spirit they were sharing, but what a disgusting mentality which seems getting more and more popular. Fighting against this kind of piracy is desperate and can not succeed, if your enemy is a billion head apparatus making gold from s..t, having no God but money and therefore no moral conscience. You can blame both - the Chinese AND the buyers, another billion of people you just can´t control *sarkasm*... By selling MOC instructions you probably may intend to cover some costs and efforts invested into creating the model - in its diversity to please everybody - and the instructions. Who knows, eventually something extra to invest into your next project. Or make a million bucks, nothing wrong with that in the free world, isn´t it? If it doesn´t work and thieves are profitting (miltiple thousand times more btw.), all the stuff becomes like worthless. I don´t beg for money, rather want to take risk, invest something and see how far it can get. I never wanted to take gifts from anybody and let it all depend on other peoples donations, but simply earn what I deserve and nothing more. Crowdfunding is nothing I would consider for myself, but could work for others. Maybe it´s worth to follow the idea within the community. I´m using the watermak option at the hosting website. Watermarks are worth the „paper“ they are printed on – nada! @rm8 , I admire your good will and positive attitude , God bless, my friend! I apreciate this kind of comradeship and the support from the community in general – big thanks to all!

Next to the bad feelings here one single fun fact which makes me laugh : they couldn´t copy the exhaust because they seem not to have the mold for this part.. It looks ridiculous and the renders are so cruel, I don´t know what to say... Another point: they have added some 400+ parts count compared to the original and I have no idea what they are used for... I have reported the video, but don´t want to file this bureaucratic stuff at YT. No time for loosers. Thanks. They won´t kill my fun and creativity, but the bad side is - I have very little motivation to offer instructions in the future.

Unintentionally I´ve contributed to the scarcity of orange #3 connectors ... There is a total number of 15x in my model. However, 7x of them can be saved without compromising things too much: - 4x brake calipers: can be made in red e.g., thankfully the red #3 connectors aren´t rare anymore. Or LBG/DBG, or whatever. - the one in the middle of the hood can be made LBG like in the example - 2x above the wheelhouse can be replaced by #1 connectors, leaving a neglectable gap.

But coming out of the dark ages with such a build plus instructions means you´ve skipped some major steps nobody else is capable of so far as I know.. Please do something with this new crammed blue thing of which I can think only to use the wheels & hubs in my next MOC so far.

This is just so impressive ! Your experience, your skills, the sheer dimensions of this creation, then all details. The video is incredible! Second gold on your neck? -
Can´t believe it ... However, you´r welcome! Superb job and as others said, I´m curious what you will come up with having no such limitations..

Spectacular lights, especially the rear lights - I like both variations, nice interior details ! Critics: the overall proportions and scale are off though, the wheels look way too small = the car too large. It´s missing the characteristic lines and inclinations at the right spots. The wheel arches look not so nice in the beams-over-flexy style, the rear arch and surrounding sections not in harmony, sorry for the long rear end as well. All that being said, it shouldn´t bother you too much, because your priorities clearly have seemed to be focusing on the color combo with the blue parts, other creative experiments such as editing and stuff .

Or gain even more interest, who knows. Of course it´s nice to watch such projects and discussions, learn, advise and criticize . The sharing can be fun and effective, but not always and not for all of us. For me the focuss lies rather on the matter itself to spend time with, consider pros and contras, having a lot of ideas popping up, so usually no need for any more distracting and confusing ideas & opinions, not honest, qualified or balanced enough.. .. It´s all helpful, cheap and very easy to do . The blueprints are usual A4 prints taped together after scaling up, using the wheel diameter as reference and / or using Sariel´s model scaler. I´m using a very simple freeware to make a poster: Posterazor. Then print the PDF, compare it with the real wheel 1:1 right on the screen, then make 1-2 adjustments going few steps back. The smaller fotos on the left are printed on glossy foto paper. All together covered by a thick transparent laminate foil. It´s easier to build in scale starting from that, isn´t it . Didn´t you want to try yourself some day? You may use and adapt some of my chassis components. All it needs is some 3.000 parts, not a big deal for a MOC from you ...

As I said, I don´t like to remember my poor earlier designs, the lost time and especially the defeats in my WIP struggle. The unfinished crap is left behind and today I´m enjoying the finished car of my dreams on display. But I can see a kind of „educational“ responsibility, so for those who are interested - here are a few insights I´m willing to share. You can e.g. see the fight vs. the front bonnet, which btw. was one of the mentionned sections I improved with Polofreak´s assistance. Doesn´t mean he is dictating anything, but it´s always good to have a qualified second opinion. In this case: the front hood doesn´t have these significant curves and can be rather flat, so I should reorganise the panels composition: Another section was the rear part, namely the 4 fence parts which I didn´t want to use first, but Polofreak soon convinced me I should be consistent in my style and rather use them: Unfortunetely I had to shift the doors part of the wheel arch 1 stud towards the rear, because otherwise we have a heavy interference with the wheels turning: Modularity planned beforehand, shown at an earlier stage: I´ve seen sealed sets for under 200 Eur, the used ones can be bought even cheaper. It makes sence to recommend the set, at least to build a McLaren. I´ve had the same thoughts regarding the seats color and made them black first, like many real P1 do (rather anthracite, who cares). The result wasn´t that great, so I decided to make them orange which makes them stand out of the darker interior in harmony with the rest, so it was the right choice I think. I´ll be thinking of you particularly while building the next Ferrari. Thanks for coming around!

.... incredible sticker job... Edit: to add something useful to the discussion, kids grow up and improve their behaviour and skills constantly. The OP should listen to the more experienced guys, rename the topic to "WIP", then improve his crane before calling it finished. Or be proud of himself and let the critics not allow to hurt his feelings.

1970 Porsche 917K
brunojj1 replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Your range of skills and model diversity are far beyond my capabilities. So your understatement in the introduction is ridiculous IMO, makes me feel flattered and bad on the other hand, but thanks anyway . When I saw your plans for the upcoming year 2018 where the 917K has been announced, I was curious already and the result is better than I expected. What a great livery and refreshing color scheme ! You have created an amazing and incredible looking replica of this legendary LM race car, doing full justice to its real counterpart. Always loved your „max performace“ philosophy when it comes to motorization. The big shocks / moving suspension are very cool to watch. Á propos video – you have this kind of humor, almost subliminal - I enjoyed all of it with a big smile ! -
@Seasider Thanks. At rebrickable you can compare my partslist to other sets - e.g. 42056. Then select the 42,7% of the parts which the Porsche doesn´t have and export a wishlist to BL. I assume total average costs about 500-600 Eur = 450-540 pound sterling. Minus the parts you have on stock already minus the rest of the Porsche parts you should feel a bit less guilty ..
