  1. Thank you all for the kind words. It really was a labor of love. When I started this I had never done anything like it before. I taught myself framing, electrical (we have to use conduit in the Chicago area), carpentry, drywall (which is so messy), flooring, and all kinds of other things. Now I have to find a new project to work on. I sometimes play with my LEGO, and the room is so large that I have space to also play with the sets with my daughter (when she's old enough). And she can touch my collection, as long as she plays with them correctly. LOL!! Yeah, now I have time to MOD the Executor. So this is how it went down. When we bought the house my wife said, "the entire basement is yours." SCORE! I planned the Death Star room and a bouldering cave (I'm big into rock climbing). As I created the designs my wife would comment on them... and the designs evolved over the period of a year. I started out with 850 sq ft of finished space just for me (the other 500 sq ft are storage and utilities), but after my wife's "suggestions" I ended up with 520 sq ft for me and she got a 330 sq ft room for her crafts; which is adjacent to the Death Star room. I don't know how she did it, but she talked me into a big chunk of square footage just for her. She's very understanding, but crafty. LOL.
  2. Nice work, dude. I really like how you MODed the sets, the village is much more "grand." I like the logs that are on ropes. And very cool seeing the storm trooper tied up. LOL
  3. I've wanted a room just for my Star Wars stuff since I was a kid in the 80s. Two years ago my wife and I bought our house and it came with a HUGE completely unfinished basement. A blank canvas for which I was to create my masterpiece. After completing numerous projects on the upper levels of the house I finally started my basement in February of this year. And this week I put the finishing touches on my Death Star room. The room is 15'x21' (~5mx7m). There are 5 display cases built into the walls. All of the lighting is operated by motion sensors, and I can also control them with my smart phone. Between the two below are autographed photos of Darth Maul and Darth Vader. One of the signature details of the room are the lighted wall panels, which were very difficult to design and build. The ceiling is a drop ceiling, painted glossy black. Imbedded along the edges are 12 LED puck lights for additional lighting of the display cases. The ducts visible are actually the heating/AC ducts for the house. I left them visible and painted them to give it more of a "Death Star" feel. The south wall holds the ISD, SSD, and Death Star. The wall itself is decorated as a Death Star wall. I made the Star Destroyer shelves myself. One of the easier pieces to build. The Death Star is in a custom display case I designed and built. It actually rotates 360 degrees so one can see all of the details of the set. The pedestal holding the case is where all of the instruction booklets are stored. 5 display cases that are close to being full. I have space for future Star Wars sets. I don't want to fill this up with all 10 photos just of the display cases. You can see my entire collection in the photo bucket link at the end of this post. This is the north wall. I also have a decent sized collection of SW figures still in their packages. The empty space in the middle is the future home of a large TV. This room will become a home-theater in which to watch the entire SW series! The doorway is designed to mirror the one where Luke and Leia got stuck in when being chased and Luke shot the bridge controls. And finally we have the lightsaber and Sith Holocron display. But wait...... It's a door to a hidden storage room, where I have all of my LEGO boxes. I will be adding more detail as time allows. But that's my Death Star room. Now it's time to start building LEGO again! Below are links to the full photo album and a video walk-through of the room. http://s133.photobuc...Death Star Room Hope you enjoyed it!
  4. I am so psyched we are getting LEGO Porsches! But this line has a lot of potential. I haven't read this whole thread but I'm guessing there are a fair number of posts with suggestions for cars.
  5. Han and Greedo out front, love it! Nice work on the other builds, the speeder, mountain, snot base, and covered wagon. I have to say, that's a TON of cheese wedges on those walls.
  6. Nice work! Is that Chalmun behind the bar helping out Wuhur?
  7. I have a couple of boxes of sets from when I was a kid, which are still fun to look at. Since coming out of my dark ages I've kept all the boxes from my sets. I have a good amount of storage, so space isn't an issue. However, as my collection grows I can see the need to either start collapsing the boxes or (I hope not!) recycling them. Good idea using the big trash bags to protect them. I'll start doing that.
  8. The Thrawn Trilogy is by far the best that EU has to offer. And your MOC is just brilliant! Nice work, Markus. Thanks for showing the tile technique, I was curious how you did that. Any plans for other scenes from the books, like maybe something from Honoghr?
  9. Wow! That's some great work, Devid. You captured Prime perfectly, and he even transforms! I love the use of those old-school windows. I haven't seen them since the 80s.
  10. Cool comparison. For a couple of years I debated whether or not to get 6211, and I'm glad I didn't. 75055 looks much better, has better features, and better mini figures. Yeah, its smaller, but size isn't everything. I went ahead and bought 75055 and am quite happy that I did.
  11. I've been watching S@H since the set was released and it's always "temporarily out of stock." I also have been checking Amazon and eBay, but those have been way over RRP. Then yesterday I stumbled across an Amazon listing for Exo-suit for right at RRP, $34.95. I'm a Prime member, free shipping and no sales tax, so I quickly ordered it! An hour later the price had gone back up to $52+. I can't wait to get this set in.
  12. I'm really enjoying seeing how this MOC is progressing. It looks great; I like all of the detail. I even see Santa in there! As far as the ATC tower; looks like you can either build it coming out of one of the corners of the main terminal, or you can make it stand-alone. Looks like there's not a lot of room for a stand-alone tower (the airplane wings need all that green on the baseplates for clearance, right). So I would suggest putting it coming out of the terminal where the panda is standing on the balcony. You would only need the corner of the balcony to make the base of the tower, and leave the interior open. The door right there could even be access to the tower, itself.
  13. Wow, lots of negativity for this wave. I definitely don't feel that way. Pretty much everything coming out is on my wanted list, except the few PT sets. Even the Rebels sets look well-designed and fun to build. The mini figures are all pretty cool, even the Senate Commandos. Yeah, 2015 is starting off quite nicely in my book.
  14. "... and these blast points are too accurate for Sandpeople, only Imperial troops are so precise." Great work, Markus!!! Love it.
  15. Whoa!!! I thought it was an LDD image at first, then kept scrolling to find out that it's actually real! I have nothing more to add to this thread, but Wow.... just wow! This MOC is brilliant.
  16. @Jedi-bendu and Rollermonkey - thanks for the opinions about Phantom and Ghost. They sound like they'll be fun sets to build and good additions to my collection. I'll take your advice and grab them during double VIP month.
  17. Cool, you used a pic of General Veers! UCS Slave 1 = awesome! Bigger, more solid, better detail than I originally thought. Now I have to find a place to display it.
  18. Since the UCS Slave 1 is a 2015 set, are we done with 2014 set rumors and discussion?
  19. Just take my money, TLG! It looks much bigger than I thought it would be. Everything about this set looks awesome, detailing, accuracy, size, and I'm impressed at how solid and swooshable it is. There must be quite a network of Technic pieces inside. Speaking of inside, I'm a bit surprised the designer put in a trapdoor on the bottom to extricate a wayward carbonite block instead of walling off the cargo hold section. It's hard to say without seeing the set in person, but there might be some good areas for MODding in there.
  20. What do you think of it? I'm on the fence about the set. It looks cool, but not sure if it's worth buying. I'm mostly an OT collector with the occasional PT set. I didn't really like TCW sets, so I'm not sold on the new cartoon, yet.
  21. Wow! Such high detail for such small MOCs. And great work on the bases. Brilliant. Those are two of my favorite ships in SW. Would you be willing to share your design?
  22. Blaster bolts, holes in the wall, jumping figures, awesome MOC! Wouldn't it be cool if the Imperials also had rockets? That would knock out the transport quickly. +1 to goatman's comment; let's see a wide shot of the building.
  23. Very cool. That's the kind of airport I tried building as a kid. I have a couple of those planes (which I think are the coolest plane types TLG has made); I really like how the MOC has the classic-Town feel to it. Now you need a cool ATC tower.
  24. Central spar=Much better! Overall this is coming along quite nicely.
  25. Looks pretty good so far. Curious, could you adjust the center spar to make it more cylindrical?
