[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad

If by editing area you mean the area with the parts, yes, my mouse is in that area. My mouse can even be directly over a selected part, and pressing esc has no effect. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad

The "P" key is just what I was looking for, and SPN mode seems like it will be much more comfortable to work with. Thanks! Roland, I think there may be a bug with the escape key. According to the hotkey list, pressing it should deselect any current selection. However, that doesn't seem to work. Ctrl+Shift+a works to deselect, but that's a lot more awkward to use. I'm used to just hitting "esc" to deselect parts. Edit for another suggestion I see your descriptions of UI items at the bottom of the page as I mouse over them. Would it be possible to also put those descriptions in tooltips? That would more closely match existing software development practices, and speed things up for users. Currently I find it very slow to mouse over an item at the top of the screen, read the description at the bottom of the screen, and then move my eyes back to the top of the screen to repeat the process. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad

Ok, that helps a little bit. Thanks! Now that I've played around a bit more, it's still not working the way I would expect it to, unfortunately. Would it be possible to optionally turn off camera-relative rotation, though? LDD used to have absolute rotation, and I hated it when they changed to relative. Also, is there a way to turn off the editing pins? Another Edit, as I'm playing around with a new file... What is the hotkey to switch between modes? -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Classicsmiley replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I want to be able to easily rotate parts with the keyboard. With MLcad I use Ctrl + arrow keys, and with LDD I use W, A, and S (although the arrow keys work there as well). I haven't been able to figure out multiple-axis rotation in LDCad so far. When the left and down arrow keys, and the up and right arrow keys do the same thing, something seems really off. -

Has any work been done on user-configurable hotkeys yet? I keep opening this program up to try to build with it, but there still seems to be enough of a paradigm shift that I can't seem to really "get" how things work. I'm hoping that being able to rotate bricks with the keyboard (in a way that I'm used to) will help me in tackling the learning curve... -
Microsoft surface 3
Classicsmiley replied to Nixtoo's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I just tried LDD on a Surface 3 with 4GB of RAM, and it handled surprisingly well. I didn't try to open any of my larger models, so I don't know what performance would be like at higher piece counts. LDD isn't touch-enabled, so without a mouse and/or keyboard, your experience might not be the best. (I've got mine hooked up to a USB hub and external monitor while I do some development work, so I'm not actually using it as a tablet right now...) -
LDD zooming and focus

Right-click on the part that you would like the camera to center on. Also, try holding down the shift key while right-clicking and dragging. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Classicsmiley replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
What colors are those? -
MPD Multi Part Document

Check this out for starters, and then report back with any additional questions you may have... http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/advanced3-en.html -
It's really easy to switch from one to the other. After you open your model built in "normal", from the menu select View > New Themes > LDD Extended. You will then have access to the Extended palette.

adding text to MLCad & LPub
Classicsmiley replied to 1963maniac's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
In LPub 4.0.0.11, the only way I've found to add text is to create an image with the text I want, and insert the image. In the recent LPub3D fork/update, it looks like there might be a way to add some text, but I haven't tried it out yet. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111940 -
LDD or LDraw for a newbie
Classicsmiley replied to Isundir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks. I'll watch the videos, and look forward to being able to configure my own hotkeys. I've been finding myself trying to use LDD hotkeys in MLcad, and I'd rather not add a third scheme to the mix... I'm hoping once I really figure out that the editing pin is for that things will start to make sense for me. -
LDD or LDraw for a newbie
Classicsmiley replied to Isundir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
What's the best way for someone like me to start learning LDCad? I've been using MLcad since the late '90s, and LDD since it got good (version 2?), but I find myself lost when I try to start building something in LDCad. Is there a way to set up my own hotkey mappings, to maybe be able to keep using some of the same keyboard shortcuts I'm used to? -
Part rotation in MLCad
Classicsmiley replied to 1963maniac's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Have you started experimenting with multi-part dat (MPD) files yet? If not, you may want to. The ability to build just one copy of a repeated subassembly, and then reference it multiple times in a parent model is very powerful, and can save quite a bit of time. -
Part rotation in MLCad
Classicsmiley replied to 1963maniac's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Ah, that's handled under the Settings > General > Change menu. Select the "Select, Grid, Snap" tab. You will then see fields for setting the movement and rotation increments for each of the grids. The X, Y, and Z values are set in Ldraw Units (or LDU). -
Part rotation in MLCad

From the menu, select View > Toolbars, and ensure that Modebar has a checkmark next to it. There are buttons for Coarse, Medium, and Fine grid settings on that tool bar.
