LDD 4.3.9 bugs and issues
Classicsmiley replied to JC75's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've used Extended mode pretty much exclusively since it was introduced. I continue to be surprised at the number of people who use normal mode... -
LDD 4.3.9 Update Released
Classicsmiley replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The list of parts in "normal" mode isn't always accurate. I was just looking through the modified plate section, and saw several pieces in the new grays that went out of production long before the color switch. If you filter the list by color, you can quickly find lots of other parts that were never produced in the specified colors (at least as far as Bricklink's sales history knows). My recommendation: give up on normal mode, and enjoy the freedom that comes with LDD Extended! -

You can't attach pieces to the front or back underside of the new Mighty Micros mudguard 24151. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Classicsmiley replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I move parts in instructions with buffer exchange, and then ignoring the second copy of the parts in the partslist. I can send you an example if you'd like, if you PM me your email address. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad

For some recent instructions I've made, I've done the building in LDcad, and then switched to MLcad to create the steps, rotation steps, buffer exchange, etc. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Classicsmiley replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I just found an interesting bug: if I open an MPD file in LDcad that contains an MLcad arrow, the sub-model that contains the arrow will not show in the list of sub-models. Also, if there is an MLcad arrow in the main model, all of the polygons in any studs are highlighted. -
Impressive Ldraw Examples?
Classicsmiley replied to dulsi's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'd start by looking through this thread. People have re-created many sets, from many themes. You should be able to find some good examples... -

Is cut flex tubing or pneumatic tubing ok? -

How do you remove parts from the Favorites list? I'm left clicking on a part, to make sure it's selected, then right-clicking and selecting "Remove Current" under the Favorites heading. However, the part does not seem to be removed from my Favorites. -
Eurobricks Mega Building LEGO CMFs Contest 2016
Classicsmiley replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I do understand the decision. My other quote was in response to the statement that the house contest didn't seem fair. In terms of creativity, is there any real difference in creativity between a physical model with good photography, and a digital model with a good render? Especially if the digital model only used elements* that exist in real life? (I apologize for getting a little off the track of this contest. I'm just trying to understand more of the thinking, not just for this contest, but for all no-digital-entry contests.) *An element being defined as a particular piece in a particular color -

I'd still rather see contests that are open to digital entries, than contests that exclude digital entries... -
Eurobricks Mega Building LEGO CMFs Contest 2016

I figured as much, but I thought I'd ask. I'd really like to see more digital-friendly contests, for those of us who don't have easy access to our physical collections... -

You specify that no LDD entries are allowed. How about other digital entries? (Ldraw, Mecabricks, etc.) -
Messed up LXF. File

If you're using a computer keyboard with a number pad on it, pressing the 5 key in the center will center all of your model in the viewing area. -
If you could find the source of that information, I'd love to read it! Edit: missed the other post by a few minutes...

Bah, that's hardly a disaster. :) As for water effects, I use dark tan edges and reddish brown centers under dark-trans-blue tiles for the water in my MILS modules, and I think it looks pretty good.

Submodels Cascade in MLCAD

Thanks for explaining this! It's been quite a while since I linked to an LDraw file on Brickshelf, so I forgot to mention that necessary step. -
Submodels Cascade in MLCAD
Classicsmiley replied to correaapoc's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Add all of your sub models to your main file, then add whatever references you need to between them. Here's an extremely simplistic example of what I'm talking about. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ClassicSmiley/Temp/submodelexample.mpd -
This is looking good! Will we be able to see any portion of it at the Laramie Depot show next year? Also, 100 trans-dark-blue tiles isn't going to get you very far.

No, I don't even have Photoshop installed.
