I share your feelings about overdesigning. The shorter one (on the right) matches better to the overall picture. Thanks for the "rollcage" picture, now I see where those connections are needed.

[MOC] Tractor Dump Trailer
agrof replied to MajklSpajkl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, great engineering! I don't mind the little misconstruction of the steering, actually I wouldn't had notice it, as it seems to work smoothly. A big thumb-up for the many details, excellent. -
I like the new design a lot, as far I see, only fine tuning: could You get rid off the axles in the hood, does it influence the overall stability? I don't think they are needed optically. The HH logo is a very good idea in my opinion, give a try to split the vertical lines by half beams (black-outside / DBG-inside combo). The lack of the doors is especially a thing, what I like here, but a minimalistic one - as Lipko mentioned - would be also an option. Maybe one suggestion left from my side: the area in front of the rear wheels could be cleaned up somehow: less parts, smoother beam surfaces (less visible holes). What if You just connect the inner beams with a 7M beam from the outside (just behind/beside the seats)? EDIT: or make that line or the rear one closer to the wheels in black?

[MOC] Trial Truck
agrof replied to damjan97PL's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Excellent truck, I love the design of it! Clever weight distribution, and overall perfomance. Enjoyed the videos, crispy pictures, good lights, good edit. -
I would use transparent ones, and maybe a mixture can work well too. Some variants to inspire: I find the hood a bit disturbing as it is too slotted, only two beams next to each other would give enough contour on both sides, and would serve a cleaner look. I mean by that, if You follow the thickness of the cabin area (2 studs) in red, the whole picture will be more unified. Maybe sober usage of these panels could work, to play a bit with design and soften the hard lines: and

Something seriously went wrong with You and Lego... luckily for us. Although I am not a fan of huge builds, but I see the challenges in it, and huge respect for Your passion! One question: how is the superstructure connected to the tracks? Is it only laying on the turntable, or is it somehow secured (= can the model lifted by the superstructure)?

We are not talking about the brick as material itself, but about all the creativity, work, which bring these bricks alive. An easy example: what people see, and want to own? This: bulk parts? Or this: nice to look at and play with, + easy-to-follow assembly instructions? The difference between the two pictures is called Intellectual Property, which is harmed (stolen) by the known knock-off brands. If they would show up with own designs (f.e.: Oxford Blocks, Cobi, Megablocks), than why not? But till that...

[MOC] Excavator
agrof replied to Ivan_M's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
+1 for above mentioned, excellent start in MOCing, and geat detail pictures for the drivetrain! (I can use them as inspiration. ) As improvement, maybe I would use system plates or the smallest panels on the arm, to make it look less bulky. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
agrof replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmmm, I have ambivalent feelings regarding the 42066. In my opinion it looks really cool assembled, but after watching the building video several times, it still looks like a mess for me from the inside. Despite some interesting implemented connections, it looks overengineered. I can't get out the thought from my head, that these functions could have been solved in a more elegant and clean way. The internal mechanism units don't appear as an unified whole thing, not an eye-catcher. At least different linkages should have been color coded, for easier distinction. Not my cup of tea. Waiting patiently for the 2H sets. -
Hilarious, yet technically interesting, not to mention the very matchig build scheme. Majestic farewell from the year 2016, thank You!

Hi asd111, I just checked mine, so my answers: 1. correct, it really can slide out, but I have never experienced this. The axle should be 3/4M longer to be blocked correctly by the 13M black liftarm. One hint: I changed the gears to 2x z16 gears to make the engine run faster, maybe this is a reason, as these gears have more friction, than the z8 ones. 2. You probably mounted the wheels with wrong side inwards, the "hollow" side should face outwards (Page 236 - Step 84). I checked, in case of opposite placement it really rubs. 3. The front springs are much stiffer, this causes the effect. You can replace them with softer, but then the front will lean forward - can not withstand the weight of the cabin, the crane, and the battery box. I think it is an acceptable compromise. Hope, this helps.

Like the lines so far, and my vote goes for a modern 8880-ish style too! These parts are coming on market in bigger amount with these figures: http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Star-Wars/subtheme-Buildable-Figures/year-2017 (Worth to check the Youtube building videos, many new colored parts will be available soon.)

Santa's Reindeer-Propelled Sleigh
agrof replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Mech-deers (ingenious!), bean-snow, brought perfect Christmas mood here. Love every bits on this build, Merry Christmas for You too! p.s.: I guess a 42042 shaped box is waiting for me under the tree. -
Great video, but I think the bottom line is a bit unfair. Knowing the complexity of the main features of these BMWs (cardan shaft with single arm on the rear + Telelever suspension on the front + boxer engine), it is impressive how the designers could translate them into LEGO. These could have been presented more in details, but of course if one is not involved with motorcycles in depth, these information is not evident. (No offense!) From me it deserves the 5 stars for creativity. Yepp, the look is questionable, but Modding is FUN! Soft suspension also great for Off-road, so not an issue for me. The B model looks also very interesting.

I am glad, that You can use the idea. Another ones just popped in my head: You can also use transparent or DBG cylinder pieces to pop-out the engine, and maybe using a pair of this part is more elegant / simple for the shift lever. A good project deserves Bricklink hauls...

I made some recoloring according my taste, maybe useful as inspiration. The chassis is mainly LBG, the swingarms are DBG, the seats and dashboard are black.
-
Technically I can not add much, optical improvement is needed in my opinion. I would better distuingish the segments by recoloring: I would leave the chassis in DBG-LBG as it is, but would make the seats completely black (except the gears of course), the dashboard as well. Or blue. Or yellow. What You prefer. Now everything melts visually too much together. After that the body should be made also in different color... orange maybe.

Merry Christmas

Creepy Merry Christmas! Amazing fine movement details, hat off. -
I share your opinion Lipko. Sariel, Thank You for the high quality reviews in this year too, I really hope, that all the rest sets will land on your table sooner or later. These videos have long-lasting values, and entertainment factor.

If You are looking for parts, than check the inventories (f.e.: Brickset), and choose the ones, which contains the most usefull parts for You. If You are looking for functions, display, MOCing, and You love Pneumatics, my personal advice is: AROCS (42043 - ultimate Technic set in my opinion, with every option Technic has nowadays ) VOLVO (42053, maybe 2x if You find it on sale) CLAAS (42054) - to fulfill Your crappie crane need Happy thinking! edit: sorry, I just see, I overlooked the numbers (xxx43/xxx53), but I still do recommend the AROCS - in case You don't have yet.

I like it a lot, runs so smooth... just like Paul, You nailed it too! Actually, I would even stop at this point: no bodywork, just clean up the chassis with less bulkier areas at the swingarms (if it is possible) - and voilá, a quite proper demonstration stuff. Okay, I know, with removable body, it is doable in seconds too. So go on! One question: do the torsion bars do something on the model, or are they actually just cosmetic add-ons?
