Prologue: I must admit, I’ve never thought to be able to reveal a proper entry that soon, but all the sparks came so suddenly and all of those fitted into the concept in my head, that the first digital model was ready in 1 night. Some fine tuning was done during another night, and now it sits beside me in it’s Brick Built Beauty. Excuse me for presenting via digital pictures for now, but this way I can give You nicer overview (according to my actual skills), live pictures and video will be done, of course. As it is basically ready, I decided to share it as inspiration to the community, I hope to see many awesome and fun creatures! Let me introduce my entry for the TC11 contest: Name: Bison - my robot is chubby, robust, has lot of power to push and for butting heads, and has biungulate heels to kick all around – just like a bison. My main objectives were to use 2 motors only (for intuitive control, which is essential in the battle arena), and to build a double sided robot, which is functional upside-down as well. Also, I wanted to follow the regular MOCing rules: ease of build, BB access must be simple, legal techniques (LDD compatibility). Parameters: Skid steering 4x4 drive via friction gears Motorized kick-heels via friction gears (signature move) Massive dozer blade (? signature move ?) Very robust structure (to survive rough beating) Modular build 439 parts (without batteries) 37x26x9 studs 1070 gramms (with Ansmann rechargable batteries) 0 gears The 2995 tyre works here very well, as it is more grippy than the average LEGO tires, and so is the 55978 too, as result I got a nice combo for my friction gear set-up. This can provide quite a lot power, but also works as clutch in extreme situations (motor protection). The only deviance what I had to apply (with staff approval): to fit the 2995 tyre to the inside of the 2996 rim lip (Click for picture - on the right), so I could fit them perfectly on the wheel hubs, without building those in offset with the housing. As here can be seen, it is pretty crowded in the inside, which I am very pleased with. After some minutes of test, I am satisfied with the result, it can easily push 3 kgs (milk cans), quite fast, and really works like I imagined. Let’s get to pictures, update will come! EDIT: video is ready, see post below.

my 8043 mods
agrof replied to agrof's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@technicfan One answer You received above, regarding the main boom lifting issue: there was an official repair kit for the first batches, in later productions 8043 came with the new linear actuators. See more here: http://brickset.com/article/919/repair-kit-for-technic-excavator-8043-now-shipping http://www.technicbricks.com/2010/10/how-to-easily-distinguish-and-change.html -
One question to admins @Milan@Jim: is friction-gearing allowed? Example: using wheels+tires, tires would be slightly deformed (<0.5 studs overall) due to necessary compression. As it is officially allowed (legal) to bend the 2M rubber damper , than could we state this for rubber tires too? EDIT 1: LDD allows me to place the parts as described - just checked. EDIT 2: another question appeared from my side, is it OK for the contest to "misplace" the tyre on the rim, or does it count as part modification? I would like to use the inner side of the lip of the rim (space restrictions). LEFT: original - RIGHT: inner placed. I would be very happy about positive feedbacks, as my concept relies on these 2 points. Thanks in advance!

Maybe You should start a topic on Deviantart, or ask someone there with concept car references to collaborate.

[WIP] Unimog U 4023
agrof replied to Victor Imaginator's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here You can find some technical pics - scroll through: http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/media_library/unitedkingdom/mpc_unitedkingdom/Unimog/pdfs/U4000_-_U5000/u_4023_euro_6_spec.object-Single-MEDIA.tmp/U4023-U5023TechnicalInformation.pdf It looks super practical design - as it should be, so easy to reproduce. And if You don't find pictures, try with videos. It drives us here, where excellent images can be seen: https://www.highend3d.com/3d-model/mercedes-unimog-u4023-u5023-3d-model Like the project very much, and the photos are really crispy! I would give a second try for short shock absorbers on the rear axle, would make the whole chassis more uniform. Extra video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9fPoK_HxSY -

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
agrof replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would add my thoughts. I think "nerd rage" is a bit overreaction here. The price is high-no doubt, but if You compare to 42055-42056, than consider the parts they include. It is a bit comparing apple with orange. 42055: 1 XL motor, 1 battery box, LOT of chain links (small parts), lot of small parts 42056: no PF, premium box (???? meh), works with flaws 42070: 1 M motor, 1 XL motor, 1 battery box, 1 IR receiver, 1 IR remote, LOT of panels, portal hubs, big gear racks (http://brickset.com/parts/design-18940) and huge tires. Keep in mind these are more pricey each than chain links, small beams, and pins (more plastic material - more expensive molding tools shared on smaller production quantities). Part count is not an objective comparison base. The design is always a subjective thing. There are great solutions there, and cheap ones (I agree on the grill - should have been brick built). Headlights - who cares, remove them. Maybe it should be called recovery truck instead, than definition matches better here. Agree the crane arm looks also cheap, though I don't find lack of telescopic function for an issue here. It is just yet another crane, not the main focus of this model, like was in 42009. Actually 2 axles go through the turntable: 1 for the LA and 1 for the winch - similar to 9397. Functions: You compare with others with same or similar number of functions, so I don't see why to claim here. 9398 had 2 functions, still was a flagship. I don't see the point comparing by this perspective. Springs could be used, right. We still must consider, that as a toy, the design must be foolproof, whatever how children handle them, + budget restrictions. Manual gearbox + IR is realistic (as I mentioned in one previous comment - see below), ingenious on its own, and advanced technical design by combining both. I am sure the gearbox is pretty complex. No play value really? It has a TON of it: I could spend hours playing recovery situations with 42043 / 42030 + Truck Trial anywhere! No new parts: since when it is mandatory to show new parts? If You want so, You can consider the return of the old differential as new part appearance. (And it is for most people, who are not involved for decades in LEGO - actually for me it is new too, never had any.) EDIT: as @andythenorth writes below: probably redesigned, so basically new. 42067 - I can just echo my previous thought - which will be probably never confirmed: Of course we see the things differently, but we share some points, still to ground 42070 completely is a bit harsh. -

Ingenious skills. -
Finally I received the missing parts! I decided for white version after finding unused stickers from 9398, which fit nicely here. Yeeeee-haaaa!!!!!

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
agrof replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Valid points above, still if one decides to participate on a fair, than proper appearance, personal with knowledge to the products / or personal who is able to follow and control policies (no touch, no functional show) is a must. Whatever if own or hired employees. If they really wanted to keep the functions in secret, than why were there batteries around? We don't know what were the conditions, but for sure this turned out semi-professional. Sorry for the side notes, but I couldn't resist. I am back to topic. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion

Don't count that video as an official demo. It is obvious that the guy has no clue about what to operate to do what, and also the model is not assembled correctly - I am 100% sure. We saw in Nürnberg Spielwarenmesse videos last year, that the host was really educated for his job, he knew the models, read the promotion text and he could introduce them properly. This has been reflected by various youtuber. But this... with all of my respect to LEGO, is this really the standard of a worldwide followed toy fair? There is a lot of room for improvement. -

Actually here is a picture to confuse everything (check the rear and the front)! EDIT: The color of the 42070 is medium azure, check the pictures here from Brickshow (same camera, same light conditions), there is clearly visible difference with 42066. http://brickshow.com/2017/02/2017-lego-technic-nytf-set-images/ -

Sorry, correct - as a visual type of person I overlooked the text. These sets are becoming more and more interesting, and 42070 really starts to growing on me, it has huge potential to overhaul it for a proper Trial Truck. There is a lot of space for differential locks, and such technical finenesses. -
[MOC] Case 620 HD Tractor
agrof replied to Brick_Sticker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Worshipful competitor of the CLAAS, captured really well, I really like the linkage solutions for the steering! I would only add some detailing to the cabin. Maybe in this case (!!) some sticker on the bricks (!!) would improve the appearance.- 29 replies

Meanwhile I don't get the whole superhero stuff, I LOVE the personality of Batman in the new movie. Resistance was futile... all the collectible Batmans (+ the Gordons + Eraser) are sitting on the shelf now. Stunning details on each!

The same struggle in TECHNIC forum, checked on Win 7 and 8.1. Window boundaries works fine, scales properly to zoom.

Some more details to be discovered on this video: EDIT: I can not really understand how an exchibitor can live with neglected assembled display models, this seems an issue (even if it is not a big one) for years. Parts are mounted in bad positions, beams-axles-pins are not pushed correctly in place, etc... -

Interesting, that the labels on 42070 show "TOW 067", like this model would have been registered as 42067 (project number), but meanwhile the design phase they put too much testosteron in it - so they had to move into the top league with new number (to follow the usual numbering queue). Than we would have an explanation for the "missing one". I am really interested to see how capable this beast is, and what is exatly under the bonnet... after that I will make my judgement. For sure 6 big CLAAS tires take a noticable part of the price tag.
