Generic Contest Discussion
agrof replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That would be indeed cool, we see anyway lot of realistic ones here (which are awesome). This was the reason too, why the Bot contest sucked me in, finally something completely different. I just put some ideas here to pick up seeds: apocalyptic, sci-fi, general weirdness, maybe obligation on number of functions (f.e.: must have 5 functions - whatever they are). -
Just understood what is going on here... People, wake up! Our robots evolved way too far, THEY want to grow above 45 studs, THEY make us confront with each other, THEY want to rule us! I blame sbrick for being too smart, Jim for extending the deadline thus give more place and time for them, and ourselves not to noticing that this IS REALLY happening!

Yellow looks good too, but black is much better, as the weapon pops out much more visually. Gives a bit more scary look overall. -
A: 1-10-4 B: 4-3-5 C: 8-1-6 D: 10-9-7 Very cool entries overall, was a great pleasure to discover all the details in thrilling atmosphere. BRRRRR...

Have You tried to move it manually with a crank? It can give a good feedback if more force is needed (XL motor, gearing even more down?).- 21 replies

@Appie If your logic is so simple and evident, than why is there so many member, who misinterpreted it? Looking at the entries, I would say all the spinners should be disqualified because of this misinterpretation. Definitely this is not the way and not the time to do that, and also would taste bitter for the involved ones - but even for me, because there are great ones. I DO NOT want that. Imagine, that the rules are set up by humans, and could happen that they were not set up perfectly and statements were contradictory - can happen, and so what? Sorry, but it looks You are arguing for sake of arguing, it is pointless to debate about who is right or who isn't. That issue is obviusly not clear for most of us, and without offense to the staff, we haven't got a clear detailed statement against our arguements, only referring back to the original rules. I am sorry for the debate, as it was mentioned before by many: it was not about to try find ways to "cheat", but it was meant as (constructive) feedback.

Generic Contest Discussion

I second this. Following the WIP topics and make discussions within is significant part of the fun. Also if we consider that we are in a community, it makes the spirit as well, generates added value in depth to the general content - and brings member closer to each other. It would be pitty not to have this opportunities, and seeing only Ready To Run (see: completed) entries pop-up, where all the comments are just: "WOW!" + "Pretty cool!" + "Great!" Very boring. Thanks for the staff for all the effort till now, and eagerly waiting for upcoming contests! -

In different perspective, raising a question properly (with better description, link, or pictures) will not lead to misunderstandings. I admit, I just googled quickly, and as I saw the rectangular battery box, I associated immadiately to the AAA box. What elso could have it be, as the rechargable (+ the charger) are expensive like hell and thus not comparible with the big BB in terms of sales. Still I don't mind how it turned out, at least we got a nice overview about the official energy store systems. My bad, I was tottally wrong by accident, I pull back myself in a dark corner, and start to reapprisal my life. -

Yess, a compact one, I appretiate that you keep your style with moderate size. Looks promising, the release mechanism is simple yet effective, I am very interested in the final result. -

The self rightning mechanism is indeed nifty, I like it. Maybe not that robust, but it has some nice features to look at.- 15 replies

I don't mind that it is slow, it does look like a proper bot seen on TV! Great MOC. -
9. Name: Bison CATEGORY B - PF IR SIGNATURE MOVE: Kick heels + massive butting head Description - From Brickypedia Bison are large, even-toed ungulates in the genus LEGO Bots within the subfamily Sumo bots. Their weight can reach 1070 grams, and can be built up to 37x26x9 studs size. The bison are the largest surviving terrestrial MOCs in North America and Europe. They are nomadic grazers and travel in herds. This species were hunted close to extinction during the 20th century by AFOLs for their precious XL motors, PF receiver and 3x11 panels. Nowadays they are rebounded in battle arenas, and protected by Eurobricks Community. Behavior Wallowing and skid steering is a common behavior of bison, thus evolved their robust chassis and two sided functionality. Bison roll in children's room floor, covering themselves with pins or tiles. Possible explanations suggested for wallowing behavior include grooming behavior associated with moulting, male-male interaction (typically rutting behavior of AFOLs in discussion topics). Bison temperament is often unpredictable. They usually appear peaceful, unconcerned, even lazy, yet they may attack anything, often without warning or apparent reason. They can move at speeds up to 2,85 km/h and cover long distances thanks to the AA battery box at a lumbering gallop on their chubby 68,8x40 wheels. Their most obvious weapons (often referred as Signature Moves) are their massive heads can be used as battering rams, effectively using the momentum produced. They are able to push the triple of their own weigts (> 3 kgs). The friction gear driven hind legs (kick-heels) can also be used to kill or maim with devastating effect. In the words of early naturalists, they were dangerous, savage builds that feared no other MOCs. Disclaimer: any similarity with relative Wikipedia article might not be a coincidence.

This is a very original idea, and technically one of the most sofisticated, amazing. I see flying bricks though (which are just attached by studs) from the arms, and also it looks quite flexible, so I am not sure if the energy wouldn't be lost in flex, instead of the impact.- 21 replies

[MOC] RC Defender 110
agrof replied to shineyu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is not Your most successful MOC, it drives nice, but optically everything is off. There are details which reminds to a Defender, but the big picture just doesn't fit. The scaler of Sariel would help for sure: http://scaler.sariel.pl/ I know this will not stop You, and we will see many jaw dropping MOCs in the future!- 14 replies

In case it is not clear for some (like me), the question is about the battery boxes: The answer to be find more in the batteries AA vs AAA, and the key is, that AA batteries deliver much more energy - last longer in LEGO models. Detailed: http://www.allaboutbatteries.com/Energy-tables.html -
Very cool one! For the picture embedding, check this:

Hard to give an advice other than: never give up! There is always a way to find a solution, can be an option to use other parts. I recommend to use LDD for braintorming.

I always love when minifigs are in the building involved, good job!

Hello Folks! I love LEGO mechas. Long time ago I bought a 7709 in mint condition, and the blue mech of it was love for the first sight. Still, as an official set it looks... well, bit lame. I borrow pictures from this review: Lot of empty areas, right? The trailer of the upcoming Ninjago movie raised my Mech-fever again, and I dug out this set from the depth of foil bags and boxes hell. I really wanted to bring this blue guy in up-to-date status, and make it look as it would be an actual set, which is on pair of the most recent Ninjago mechs. I hope, I succeeded to polish up the look well (You judge) and made it beefy enough while keeping the genetics of the original, to be able to take it's well deserved place in the world of LEGO mechs. On the side note: it is 11 years old now...wow! And the light brick is still working. The weapons are the same, they look already genial. The sword is now can be carried on the back (held by a black Technic axle) for traveling, and I gave some boost for high performance flight mode. The whole cabin is rebuilt, actually overall a lot happened. Let the pictures talk from now on, enjoy! EDIT: I found two pieces of Nr 4 connectors in medium blue , which came handy here for the cabin bottom (instead of black ones).

Yes, and there are some more combinations, example. The "secret" is, to use the same and/or multiplied angles. Here is used 120° and 180° - both are multiples of 60°. On @Didumos69 neighbourhood there is 45° and 90° connections, previously we tested only 90° than 120° ones.
