42083 - Bugatti Chiron
agrof replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is about Eurobricks and The LEGO Group relationship / partnership, is this really that hard to understand? Edit: @zux Wait, do You mean the labels? Sorry but I don't see than your point in this discussion. As stated before, it is the fault of the shop. Period. Posting here pictures before the official reveal is against Eurobricks policy (in partnership with TLG) - you accepted it by signing in and reading the Forum Guidelines. Period. -

They do this actually for years, but a label on a box does not make one smarter... I work in packaging industry, I know. Example: -

People don't care or don't calculate with consequences. In that case, I really hope they will be sued properly. These people imagine that they bring us the holy fire, and thus they will be our gods for next days, in reality they are just party smashers, whose name not even remembered after 1 second. -

+1 but written in capital. @AndroTech I am glad that You have it (althogh it smells like the infamous comment: FIRST!), but couldn't you refrain to post it? Please, some respect to Eurobricks and LEGO - and for us? We don't want the fun spoiled!!! EDIT: Thanks Milan! @Thirdwigg If he got it from LEGO for review, than yes. If he got it via LEGO store as early bird via a friend, than yes. In other cases might not be, but come on, 2,5 days left, why to destroy the fun of many many people who are waiting for some show? -
Lets talk color vomit
agrof replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Bublehead@Ngoc Nguyen Not sure if your comments were meant to me, but I feel myself called. Sure, I am aware of the mentioned perspectives as well, I deal with phenomenons like these daily. I can't help, I just feel somehow unnatural to use poke-yoke in learning process (what I consider LEGOing to be, it is not a productive activity) - in general. @Omikron Exactly that was the strategy to open new market for LEGO. Now petrolheads are also turning heads to LEGO. -

Looks good so far! Why did you use the red connector piece instead of the white for the switch ring? I thought the white helps with it's spring effect for proper clutching.

Lets talk color vomit
agrof replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am not sure, I got your point. We agree about color coding and poke-yoke. I do believe it is an effective WORKING method, but I just don't find this an effective LEARNING method after a while. It helps a lot till a child learns and gets familiar with the whole Technic system, but after knowing the connection properties and constrains, I think next step could be to focus on shapes, and functions. For me, color coding is not helping here further - but I understand if some find this useful. I can deal with this. Or, I just should consider LEGO as an entry door to that level I am wishing for, and in reality I should look for this in other engineering - like repairing a bicycle, this is also a possibility. -

Lets talk color vomit
agrof replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@JimDude Might be correct, but I stand my opinion. Also in my family and friends, there are many who just got back to LEGO thanks for their kids, and they also do find the color vomit annoying. This generation (35-50) had their time with LEGO, and had no problem with building less color back than. Are children from today less clever / creative / skillful? I don't think so, and that's why I think it is a pity not to let those skills to improve - even if this whole color coding is meant in good faith... -
Lets talk color vomit
agrof replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am on the fence with color vomit. I see the point of it, in some cases it is even fun, but I have serious concerns about it's actual use. Sure, it helps in build with color coded parts, and I wouldn't do other way for young children. But for Technic range from 12-99... is it really helpful to improve the cognitive abilities? Is it really harder for a teenager to distinguish parts only by form and not by color? I don't think so. Many teenagers are able to repair their bicycle, moped, so should we expect color coded metal parts in real-life counterparts too ? (Imagine a real gearbox with full color of gears, bolts, bearings...) You may say, those parts can be used in smaller sets too, but no. There is no gearbox, clutch for youngsters, they wouldn't even have patience to build such complex things (there are always small geniuses, but as exceptions, no examples needed, we talk in general). I believe, that this level of poke-yoke does not introduce new territories in education, but rather creates step back. Less thinking in order of instant success, accessible for everyone, no thinkering needed, no learning curve, no improvement in tenacity implemented. Speaking of other fields of life, I experience the same. Yes, it is productive, but seeing the last 5 years in my profession, we must redefine such basic things, which were trivial for everyone before. Why? Because people can not think. People are served in most field of life with easy-to-process informations, so why they should think - how should they learn to think? Just an example: wooden pallet production, I defined 3 nails to fit a wooden support on the pallet. We are at sample production, the guy (who works with nail gun, should have some relability and judgement ability not to cause injures) shoots the nail where is no crossing pallet board underneath - in front of my eyes. Solution: I had to add 4 nails note in the drawing, to be sure, at least 3 will be functional. I have also countless examples with white collar people... Using / referring industrial standards for easier and proper communication? Forget it... All in all, I don't think this level of color coding as we have today is progressive. It is successful to reach broader market, but for a very questionable price - in my honest opinion. -
@Cumulonimbus Oh man, You perfectly described how I feel... in my profession. I am also designer in packaging industry, I used to work a lot with steel and other materials with higher freedom grade, but in last years I lack of challanges and steel solutions, I am pushed more and more for making money by implementing existing designs coming from customers (copy-paste hell), instead of making exciting designs AND money, or develop new products in R&D. The creative me is even more being pushed back since I act as team leader, so other tasks must be done too. Actually I feel the same a bit with LEGO, but I still feel the temptation, I just regret the time to sit down and do it actually. I believe, I used MOCing to cover the emptiness of my daily work - which worked well for a while. I am confident now about the necessity of change (but a bit Haw in person - see the reading from @nerdsforprez), and I am working more on this nowadays. @Lipko For some reason I also find the Chiron interesting (altough the real car really does not touches me at any level)... I think buying, building and selling as you got bored of it, is a viable plan, especially if You can wait a bit and get the set for lower price.

Actually I don't mind if there are no super spectacular functions, other what we can expect from a car, what I would more desire is a life-like building process. I could imagine modular build: chassis - suspension - engine - cabin with interieur - body (panels). This would add a lot of fun to the building experience! -

@Jim I made some thinkering about the leaks and suing, etc... Many of us agrees that leaks are pity in this case, and we can agree that no one can stop the phenomenon of taking secret photos about delivered packs, as no one can stop instant spreading on internet. This makes me wonder: why is so important to have the reveal date and the actual availability on the very same day? I could deal with Reveal on 01.06 and Shopping on 01.07. Many companies does like that. So could be a question (actually note) on your list: why not separate these both and push the availability date by 2 weeks? Leak issue solved, surprise factor and shine of the reveal kept on max. As we experienced, secrecy was really good in this case, this 2 weeks would have prevent the leaks (if hey were not intentional of course). -

We mean the rotating part only. To not to increase the offset, it should be indeed a new hub with integrated disc brake imitation. Maybe this will be a new trend, maybe exclusive for this set - wise man spoke. -

@jwarner Of course it is, it was -sorry- dumb for hoping anything else, especially after the teaser video. Well, it is STUNNING, everywhere I look, excellent part usage (love the stud shooter gun at the rear light, and the small red technic panels around) ! Hat off for the exterior design. -

Actually the car looks good - let's be honest everyone: if a MOC would be presented with this road presence, it would be hyped to max. The only thing what I don't like is the C-line on the sides. I would replace those with LBG pneumatic hoses and LBG as support for it. Would be more sleek then the sticking out clamps. I know it would be thicker than should be, but in the front the line is already 1 stud thick. Easy MOD though. -

I feel the same. I am disappointed about this leak, would have been a great surprise to wait till the official reveal after this long secrecy. The car looks as expected so far (for me), but half of the fun is gone... -
@Leonardo da Bricki Shopping at LEGO.com is always like this. If You order PF parts and bricks mixed, than they will be shipped separately, as PF parts are coming quite fast from different location (at least for me). Picking the bricks from warehouse is more time consuming, so 3-4 weeks is normal. So no worries. One question: do You make design in LDD or similar, or only real build? How do You decide which parts do You need (mismatching colored parts for test build - then order the right colored ones)?

Looks great, enjoy it! I recommend though this small modification - looks nicer, and also more legal and thus more stable: https://www.bricksafe.com/pages/agrof/class-1-buggy-evo-l/front-panel-patch
