agrof replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
18940 is the design ID, the other - longer ID number is for sub-category, which defines color, material etc. See: https://brickset.com/parts/design-18940 -
Good enough. Just kidding, it is absolutely stunning, great extension to Your farming theme!

Technic Pub
agrof replied to jantjeuh's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello All! I just drop it here, after a bit more than 1 year my side project seems to be realized! 20 pcs as prototype sounds really brave, but I got a really friendly offer for production... so why not. Luckily there is really minimal fine tuning needed, if at all, so I am a bit proud. PEAK RC - 1.9 heavy duty beadlock wheels for crawlers - PROTOTYPE I wanted a reasonably heavy wheelset for better crawling capability without the need of adding extra weights: 125 g/wheel. Check, balanced perfectly, COG is right in the center. Design target was to combine classic and modern deep lug style, I think I achieved that. -
42098 - Car Transporter
agrof replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is a really handsome set, with lot of playability! I am pretty sure we will see lot of interesting linkage mechanism under the hood. -
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." Friedrich Nietzsche I don't really get this part of the discussion, I checked back some pages, and all I see: OPINIONS. I don't think any of the opinion should be hidden, and each are evenly valid and important as feedback - which is a worthy input for TLG and they do profit from this. I don't think TLG must be defended, they do what they think the best, the market evaluates afterwards - each one on his/her own. What about just tolerate different opinions?

Interesting car, never seen it, first I found it very empty, but than I checked the real life counterpart. Indeed, it supposed to be super minimalistic. The only thing what can be improved in my opinion is the front suspension travel, should be on pair with the rear one. Can we see some detail shots from the gear shifting mechanism? I think I can spot some nice solutions there!

MOCs vs Official Sets
agrof replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, there are some interesting opinion here, and also a lot of generalization. I agree with @nerdsforprez, it is just not applicable to compare official sets and MOCs as they are different world. I could name a bunch of MOCers, who set same or comparible constrains as TLG does - and when they succeed, it is the win for the individual*. Still, it is not a race and not even market competition, so there is no winner (see better) between MOCer and TLG. *actually applies for every MOC which is finished, and satisfies the builder. TLG uses selected and trained professional teams, driven by common rule system and common targets, advertised by huge marketing machine. They are necessarily more successful. MOCers are just a lot (much more than TLG's team, but working as stand alone developers each) random people in various age, level of talent, budget, time, target to apply on a build, etc. Again, no sense to compare. As I see: there are successfull official sets and MOCs, just like there are bad or less successful official sets and MOCs. The cardinality depends heavily on above mentioned, result is that there are much more "not-so-good" MOCs rolled out, but still: so what? For the certain MOCer was fun to build and happiness to share. I can be happy for their happiness, despite in case some questionable solutions. I couldn't say the same for TLG products. Lastly: no sense to compare, as I have different expectations, given the root inspiration of building. -
Hello, I checked the instructions, for me it is clear. There are picures, when You need to connect a tube (blue/black/gray), it shows the valve, and the required connector is marked with the color (bloe/black/gray). https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1236771/Lego-Technic-42043.html?page=267#manual I hope this helps, because 42043 is Technic on its best!

42110 - Land Rover Defender
agrof replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The new Defender still can be a modern capable vehicle, it has nothing to do with appearance, which lacks of character. Engineers to be praised, decision makers to be blamed - thumb rule. -

Isn't this the new Dacia Duster? Sorry, this picture makes me associate to that... At least the Lego version looks better, good for us. -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
agrof replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It depends on: for what? For climbing, rock crawling with low speed for sure. For driving from A to B on mixed road with safety and comfort at high speed (80 km/h is high in this term), than independent suspension is far better. This is what reflected on different off road racing as well. Where speed is essential, independent or semi independent suspension is used - see Trophy Trucks. Where crawling ability counts, rigid axles are the winner - see rock crawlers. We must not forget, that these cars like the new Defender are not meant and developed as hardcore off-roader (climber), but as normal cars with good off-road capabilities. Considering modern electronics and technology, independent suspension got really capable in the last decade. Only drawback can be the reduced clearance, but it is still more than enough for usual people. The original Defender can not either be compared with rock crawlers, despite sharing similar chassis. I bet, that the new one can do too, what the classic could achieve on rough terrain. -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
agrof replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can blame car industry, and actually... people in overall. There is a need for stupid car concepts (city off-roader, eco-sport, wagon sport cars, etc...), there is a marketing and fashion trend. It has nothing to do with 42110. What if we just turn it upside down? Just like in real life, You get a nice basis, and than MOC the hell out of it for superb Off-road capabilities! -

Even Land Rover had such model(s): http://gtcarlot.com/data/Land+Rover/LR2/2010/24752444/Engine-64854350.html So I expect to be MACK style engine (which is OK, and more to scale), but who knows. This model sounds technically very promising to me. If it will be even a modular build... coffee time! -

Great module, I like it a lot! I would suggest to build something to fly the balls through or in, as I see the trajectory is pretty consistent, so this would add quite some to the total amuzement. Great job! -

Nice one, but actually this is something I didn't miss from the model. Can You post a full picture, doesn't the blacked out middle section retracts from the overall visual balance? -

The Porsche rims are licensed as far I remember, so can not use for other brand. Same seems to be the situation with these rims, I am actually happy to get new ones, which also look nice.
