wow that thing performs really well! is it good for crawling? -
cool idea! i think a 6 gearbox is far from being functional tho and ill explain why: first of all it causes too much friction second: however you set up the ratios, youre gonna end up into something like choosing if you wanna have a 1st gear so slow it gets useless because the second gear is enough to start the vehicle, or a 5th gear wich applies so much friction that motors stall... this is basically what was happening with my pajero pinin and i only had 4 gears +R so i think that the configuration that works the best is 3+R but i can be always proven wrong :P

My smoothest 3+R gearbox ever !
piterx replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
im building a single block with 2 xl motors, clutch, gearbox, servo for operating it and brakes on the driveshaft btw it's gonna work the same way as the pajero one so a rotation of 90 degrees is gonna activate the gears wich are placed like 1 - 3 on same shaft and 2 - R on the other a single servo will be enough :) here's the file :) -
My smoothest 3+R gearbox ever !
piterx replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
no way of making it more compact than that.... everything depends on what you wanna do with it... this one is meant for performances, it requires one servo only and it's meant to work with an autoclutch that guarantees good shifting while moving :) gears have a good progressive ratio wich worked well with pajero, for this one is gonna work even better as it's synchronized -

i think it's possible but not that sure because where's the extension there's the R gear -

Hello everyone! It's been a while since last time i posted somethinng! You know I was trying to make the fiat panda dakar for the TC6.... i had some problems with that as i didn't like how the gearbox was working.. So i started from scratch and now i can easily say that i've built my best and smoothest gearbox so far :) connectors of the black gearbox in the pic below couldn't give it the strenght it needed to run smoothly... so i rebuilt the grey one using only beams and it works great now as everything's perfectly straight and there are even less pieces so it's probably lighter as well.... i apologize for big pictures but i made em like this so if you want you can rebuild it from pics and test it :) I'll build something around it even if i don't know yet what xD hope you'll like it!

Snowmobile (failed) project
piterx replied to miguev's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well i wouldn't call it a total disaster :P the main problem you have is that all the weight is before the track, when you really want it just on top of it like there's someone riding it :) that is gonna give you a light front wich is not gonna sink i would use the second output for the buggy motor... so it doesn't even need to be sealed :P- 10 replies

piterx replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
lol so is it allowed or not? because in case it's not i have to think to different solutions :) btw, no there's no friction problem as it travels through the black connector on top, the only downside of it is that you need some room for the top part to move :)
